If I was writing the End Times and was told in no uncertain terms that Grimgor had to die to Archaon, I would have done it essentially the same with a couple key differences. One: Grimgor would leave a permanent scar on Archaon’s crown that would require Archaon to remove it in the short term. Two: Grimgor wouldn’t be beheaded. Archaon would hack off his hands and slit his throat. When Archaon went to assess the damage to him and his equipment, Grimgor would lunge in a final attack, aiming to rip Archaon’s throat out with his teeth. Archaon would panic and instinctively release Uzuhl as a sort of get out of jail free card. Grimgor has the Slayer of Kings buried in his chest but manages to rip off Archaon’s ear. Grimgor dies, but there is VERY visible evidence that Archaon will never forget of how close Grimgor came to killing him.

Playing Grimgor with a full stack of Black orcs is one of the most relaxing experiences ever. If you finish the black orc research and fill out his skill tree you can:
    1. click the enemy army
    2. go make a sandwich
    3. return to find the enemy army wiped with probably only their ranged units remaining, plinking arrows at 145 armour black orc units.
    Good luck smashing things.

    Fun fact:
Whenever it was intentional or not, Grimgor's name is a combination of the khazalid/dwarf words Grim (meaning harsh or unyielding) and Gor (which means wild beast), meaning that Grimgor's name in khazalid is basically "Unyielding Wild Beast" which is pretty fitting, especially because he's a Black Orc that might have been "enslaved" by the Chaos Dwarfs who gave him the name once before he fought his way to freedom.

Grimgor being the "once and future git" is a reference to the Once and Future King, a collection of stories on King Arthur. This makes Grimgor King Orkthur, but also a rather out there Saber clone.

7:12 slayers do not wish to die in battle, they want to redeem themselves fighting the enemies of the dawi, emulating the ancestor god Grimnir(no dwarf can force you to take the slayer oath, you need to feel such a deep shame about something that you see no other way to atone for it then taking grimnir's oath), being massacred by orcs would not serve the dawi, it would not be a mighty doom, there are suicidal slayers but they aren't all like that, besides Karak Kadrin does not just house slayers, but civilians as well

    • @Brutalyte616
      @Brutalyte616 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

I shit you not, one of the most important responsibilities of a Priest of Grimnir is to talk his fellow dwarfs into NOT taking the Slayer Oath and giving life advice and general psychological counseling to those who come to them asking to take the Slayer Oath. It works more often than you'd think, but mainly only on dwarfs who are young and still have something to live for, as older dwarfs who've lost their family, no longer have any oaths to bind them, or who have truly dishonored themselves to the point where only a lifetime spent seeking a worthy death in combat against the greatest foes they can find generally aren't going to be dissuaded from swearing the Slayer Oath just because some Longbeard tells them they still have something to live for or that their king would prefer if they just joined the army and sought honorable death and redemption that way.

Malekith talking to Grimgor is absolutely hilarious for two reasons.
1: The mental image of Malekith of all people speaking ork is piss my pants hilarious.
2: the fact literally *no one* ever considered that as a possible course of action blows my mind. You’re telling that nobody; not Tyrion, not Teclis, not Nagash, Franz, Mannfred, Gelt, or even Morathi *ever* thought that could possibly work? How again has this guy failed to take over Ultwan for 10,000 years?

    • @Brutalyte616
      @Brutalyte616 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

Because of several fuck ups and misunderstandings, most of which were beyond his control. Like how apparently Malekith was the rightful Phoenix King all along, and part of becoming Phoenix King is throwing yourself into the Flame of Asuryan, because Malekith's father, the first Phoenix King, did this, died and was resurrected as the vessel of Asuryan, and getting burnt was a part of the process of throwing yourself into the fire that the elves apparently didn't get the memo on. So rather than accepting the simple truth that yes, fire is indeed hot, Malekith getting burned was used for thousands of years to justify him not being the rightful Phoenix King and there was subsequently a long line of pretenders that used magic to protect themselves from the heat of the Flame of Asuryan, and they tended to go mad and/or die tragically for daring to rule in the name of Asuryan without actually having his blessing.
      Funny how that all works.

The Black Orcs didn't escape because they were stronger (though they are), the reason they escaped is because Black Orcs do not infight with each other. Unlike regular Orcs, who might pause in the middle of a battle to punch each other in the face, Black Orcs reserve their contempt for other races and smaller Greenskins. This level of coordination was simultaneously what the Chaos Dwarfs wanted (they intended to make a Greenskin that didn't constantly need the lash to work), and what almost doomed them, because it allowed them to plan and organise a revolt.
The Greenskin revolt was ultimately defeated when the Hobgoblins betrayed them and signed up to be second-class citizens under the Chaos Dwarf leadership. This is why you see Hobgoblins and Chaos Dwarfs working side by side, it's an alliance so awful that every other Greenskin in the entire world gained an extreme hatred of Hobgoblins.
You're correct, Malal is the 5th Chaos God who embodies the self-destruction of Chaos itself, and it is for that reason he hates Chaos and works to destroy the others.
It's a shame Pancreas skipped over Grimgor vs Crom because Crom is like the Chaos version of Grimgor (no, Grimgor is not the Archaon of Greenskins, that would be an Orc named Gorbad Ironclaw). He does tell a slight lie though, Grimgor did run away both to yell at his army and also because he realised he was getting surrounded and would be killed if he didn't run. As much as Grimgor likes to fight, he doesn't fancy dying in a stupid way.
Unfortunately Grimgor doesn't actually kick Archaon in the balls at the end of Storm of Chaos, he cheap-shot headbutts him and mocks him while he's down while his forces slaughter Archaon's army. Keep in mind Grimgor has actually made an alliance with Archaon just so he could get close and metaphorically piss on him. I also bring that up because you will find people who swear that Grimgor literally kicked Archaon in the balls in the story (and I do take issue when people begin to argue that they are not joking when telling it). Funnily enough there's a good chance that Grimgor doesn't even know what testicles are (Orcs don't have them, and there's even a story where an Orc underling was confused when his boss taunted Skaven with hip thrusts).
Pretty much everything about Grimgor in the End Times is garbage, at best a lot of it is extremely questionable, like having the world's smartest ogre (who wears a crown enchanted to make him genuinely intelligent) decide to hand his enemy his club for no reason: Grimgor lost the fight but because Greasus dropped his club for Grimgor to use, Grimgor killed him with it since he was the author favourite (Greasus is also one of the few characters he loses to on the tabletop). His assault on the Chaos Dwarfs makes no sense either. In the battle his assault happens almost entirely offscreen and the Chaos Dwarfs, unsurprisingly, are supposed to have either the best or second best fortress city in the entire world. Having Grimgor go and kill them all is like saying "somehow Palpatine returned". This is before we get to how Greenskins are incompatible with regular magic and Grimgor never should've been an incarnate. Pancreas is also mixing events in the main End Times books with the Black Library novels, which is not a great idea because they are mutually exclusive. The stupid series contradicts itself even in its own books, and the main set of End Times books have events that break the BL novels, and vice-versa.
I don't want to sound like I dislike Grimgor, I like him quite a lot and he's a lot of fun in both Total War and on the Tabletop, what I dislike is terrible writing, and the End Times are loaded with it. Incidentally I'd recommend looking at Grimgor's snippets in Storm of Chaos, there's an awesome bit where Grimgor is sulking because he can't figure out why his army ran away, then he comes to the most Orcy conclusion possible.
Pancreas was extremely over-exaggerating when he said a unit of Skavenslaves could kill Black Orcs. Even in the second game on Legendary (the hardest the series has every been) there is no conceivable battle in which Skavenslaves will win, period. The Greenskin roster needs 0 buffs at the moment because they are the second strongest army in the entire game in Multiplayer, and in campaign they are arguably the strongest. I'm not exactly sure why Pancreas has trouble with the campaign, maybe he's not a very good player? Grimgor's campaign is very easy.

If I recall correctly I think Teclis brought in Grimgor when summoning the Incarnates. Was basically a mass recall of all those embued with a Wind of Magic. And Grimgor with a large chunk of his army (presumedly those within so far of him) suddenly dropped in Middenheim.
In terms of blasting that energy at Archaon he may have not been able to. So much power in a concentrated attack may have simply caused him to miscast and perform a small nuclear detonation.

Contrary to popular belief, Malal WAS introduced to both Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40k and is still canon. However, due to a legal dispute where GW tried to swindle one of the writers they hired out of the characters he made for them without actually paying him or crediting him, GW has lost the ability to use Malal or any characters associated with him for fear of legal repercussions unless they have the author's explicit permission, which they have supposedly never asked for considering they tried to circumvent the ruling by changing Malal's name to 'Malice' and then immediately stopped trying to do anything with Malice directly and only giving his pet Renegade Space Marine Chapter/Chaos Marine Warband the Sons of Malice an occasional cameo in 40k media; last I recall, there was a footnote about the Sons of Malice in the Fall of Cadia and Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 and that's it.
As for what Malal actually is? He's basically the embodiment of the mutual hatred, disgust, and general anarchy of all Chaos Gods and their factions, and his followers are generally Chaos Champions who've gotten tired of being ignored and cheated by the Chaos Gods and start hunting other followers of Chaos for revenge out of sheer spite, which means Malal's followers are generally few and far between, but they are veterans of many battles and campaigns, specifically fighting with and against Chaos, as well as any poor unfortunate non-Chaos bastards they fought up until that point.

Showing that while in Fantasy Battle that whole “Prophets of the WAAAGH” thing went nowhere, Gorkamorka decided to fix that. Showing that after Gork and Mork fused they became a bit smarter. Or they just saw the Celestin Prime and wanted one. It’s the orks remember. If there’s something that needs smashing and green god has better things to do, they send the avatars.
Also along with Grom, Greasus, and Wurrzag returning as the Heralds, emissaries, and messengers of Gorkamorka. If something needs intervening or a lower level diplomacy event is happening they send one of the three.

Slayers aren't stupid, they might want to die but they won't do it at the expense of others (this is also why the Slayer King wears armour, he has a duty to lead his people despite his oath). A continuous fight before Karak Kadrin would only cause more and more Greenskins to arrive and they'd not only attack the Dwarfs, but everywhere else around them as well. If they believe they are incapable of breaking the army, the smartest thing would be to shut the gates until they go away.

In terms of what faction to play, really depends on who you want to fight, anyone: Grimgor, dwarfs/skaven: Skarsnik, Humans/dwarfs: Azhag, Greenskins/dwarfs/tomb kings: Wurzag, or elves/humans: Grom.

Nippon is basically Japan in Warhammer Fantasy. They don’t have much if any lore outside of having trained Clan Eshin (The Assasin Skaven), and having a big fleet.
They function much like Japan during the civil war era, where many warlords vie for power in a heavily militarized state while pirates and dreams of conquering Cathay (China/Korea) keeps most people from invading them for fear of accidentally uniting them through war.

ill say that grimgors army of choice is one of the easiest to use in combat, point him at the nearest lord or hero while your orks go bash whatever else is around, even more so with a waagh
Wurrzag id say is the strongest greenskin faction to start with, extremely powerful magic, lots of physical resistance, savage orks out the ass
Skarsnik is quite difficult as you really only have goblins to use though with good tactics they are fantastic, especially the armor piercing ones early on against the dwarfs aswell as squig hoppers
Azhag is a bit different as he tends to be friends with vampires and can use death magic + a bit of vampire spells via skills, his armies are quite normal and can really use anything
Grom is where you turn it up to 11 with his cooking to buff specific units, roll around with full stacks of explosive arrow goblins and watch things disappear in seconds or give all your trolls unbreakable for a monster mash army, though you will need to find the ingredients first and the start is quite anemic being in the middle of bretonnia (ugh)

The higher the difficulty in Total Warhammer, the more bonuses the enemy gets in base stats. So stuff like melee defense, melee attack, and leadership for the enemy is boosted while your units remain the same. The AI factions also get buffs to the economy. This affects the Greenskins more than most factions. Their army is melee focused and their leadership/morale is not great. They can't trade, even with other Greenskin factions, and their buildings don't generate a lot of cash. So higher the difficulty, the more the Greenskins lag behind. They are not a bad faction to play, and the difficulty scaling is a bit better in Warhammer 3 compared to 2, but still they get hit by the difficulty creep hard. Most Chaos factions are in a similar funk.

One of the reasons the End Times happened, and the most valid one in my opinion, is because it was kind of stuck. With the predetermined end of the world nobody could do something big and changing. And because it was stuck just before the End Times, more and more accomplishments kept getting heaped on the same characters. For example Karl Franz was purely a politician at first and not even a good one, now they can't stop saying how he is the "greatest statesman in the world" and he caves in hordes of orcs with his hammer.
The setting was just kind of stuck and not selling well, so GW blew it up and made Age of Sigmar, which is a setting that moves on and big, setting changing things happen in.

Mildly late to this vid, but playing orks... it varies by what you like. Skarsnik is for playing goblins & squiggs, while Azhag is a solid general player but you have to deal with the slayer faction, kislev, the undead, and/or wood elves. The faction with the best mechanics is The Great Goblin, but he as a leader buffs chariots so you want to confederate the other greenskins and, while the prophet of gork and mork is built around savage orks and their almost unfair physical resistance. That's great for a while, but you get dragged into a fight with angron eventually and all daemons have magical attacks and ignore physical defense, so...

If I had to recommend a green-skin Lord to start with, it would have to be either Grimgor or Graum the Paunch. Grimgor is just a walking monster and a great deal of fun but he's also...vanilla? Like Pancreas said, and like many people who enjoy the orcs quickly come to find, the orc roster is kind of lack-luster.
The cavalry you have is only really good in the early game, with cheap goblin cav being fairly useful. But then it drops off quickly and becomes meaningless, even with orc boar boys, because the orc boar boys just kind of...suck. Their stats just ain't great and they get shredded by basically everything.
Orcs are also SEVERELY melee focused, which is phenomenal on many counts but is also hugely bad for them against so many factions who make use of artillery, magic, archers and kiting. It means that, eventually, you kind of end up with a very similar army style in every army because anything ELSE would just die instantly or get routed off the battle field.
That's where Grimgor comes in, being a cool lord...but not having much else to offer the army or the battle. You right click an enemy and he'll handle them but then your army is just kind of...meh? The REAL fun is with Grom the Paunch.
Grom, as you saw in another video, has so many ways to alter his and all armies. He's intensely fun, he buffs goblins to a *hilarious* degree and he will 100% shred people by bulldozing through them. He's strong, he's fast, his army is hilarious to use...but he's also still a green skin, so a lot of his other armies will still need better units and still have the same sort of issue as the rest. Melee focused, not too different from each other, but intensely fun to play.
I love Grom and his playstyle, I think he starts off in a interesting place and you get a LOT of good fights. The only issue with Grom is that he kind of starts off sandwiched between HEAPS OF ENEMIES. So his start, if done wrong, will have like half the world already surrounding you and kicking your teeth in.
All the same, he's definitely the most interesting and fun out of the Green skin lords.
I would also highly recommend, as always, mods to go with the game. Steam Workshop has so many mods to choose from and there's heaps of AMAZING ones that further help boost your own armies or just fix bugs in the game. I'd be happy to recommend a few, but it is also worthwhile to play the game vanilla and enjoy it like that BEFORE going to mods. Once you've had your fill of the game as it is...then its definitely fun to see the INSANE things that mods offer that just turn the game upside down in the best way possible.

I'd definitely be interested in trying out some mods later. No idea when that'll be though, because there's so much that this game has to offer already.

@@TheLegitWeebs oh 100%. I, like many others, managed to put a hundred+ hours into the game before even CONSIDERING mods, so there's no rush on such a thing. But I definitely look forward to it should the time come around haha.
Keep up the great videos though! Always a delight to see your reactions to Pancreas, Kleaper and the rest. Even the Book of Choyer reaction was awesome and I'd love to see you react to more from them!

Oh lord be careful of any star wars lore on TH-cam... You have a lot of people maligning eastern philosophy and jedi and just tons of braindead takes... So many people who are mistaking Jedi for Star Trek Vulcans and saying "They hate and deny emotions!" No attachment means not putting personal loves above duty, NOT being lonely and loveless. Ugh.
Anyway, MY BOI GRIMGOR!!! I love the theory that he's a very unlikely warrior of light/chosen one. That's absolutely my headcanon, and i reject the timeline where he failed. I love how a very serious dark elf really did say "Yanno I heard the Archon said HE was da best." To which Grimgor said WHAT!
The ending where Grimgor wins via kick in the d*ck is MY canon. Love Grimgor.
Im also surprised they never mentioned our boy's special chaos dwarf weapon.

Thanks for the warning! No idea when or if I'm even going to dive into that can of worms that is Star Wars lore, but I'll keep that in mind. I also agree with that headcanon tbh. Grimgor unintentionally saving the world just because he was looking for a good fight sounds like a much better ending than having Chaos win.

@@TheLegitWeebs Yeah, it also doesn't help that Disney doesn't get the Jedi, recent media is just REALLY badly written, and we have people like Filoni writing for SW who decides to character assassinate his own characters when he gets bored of them. Especially when he's out here saying that he dislikes Jedi in general then says Anakin was the best Jedi ever... Which... *glances nervously at the throne of lies he lived on, how selfish he was, and the piles of murdered children and genocides under his belt.*
      MMMMMHM....
I love star wars but. Yeah. Maybe stick to Legends content
Anyway, Grimgor as chosen one is infinitely more fun and interesting and IDK why they were so married to killing their own setting lmao
