Fast forward a few months… he filled those big shoes in an epic fashion!!! 🐏💙🏀👣 Carolina advanced to the championship beating dook and ending Coach K’s run for a 6th banner!! The National Championship will be icing on the cake!! The biggest Tar Heel fan couldn’t have predicted where the program is right now!
I always enjoyed listening to Hubert when he was at ESPN. His positive personality and tremendous basketball intellect were obvious every time he was on TV. The day Roy hired him to be an assistant, I never doubted that Hubert would one day be the head coach at UNC. Many congrats to Coach Davis. I'm looking forward to the future of Tar Heel basketball.

Stephen A. Is so annoying with that shtick. I want to see more black coaches in sports, especially in the NafL, but people are seeing through his bias. He can’t gives props to “others”: who are successful as a coach, but he tend to big up black coaches no matter their current record

I'm glad everyone is stoked about Hubert, but I wish these guys would stop pointing out that he's an African American hire. Don't get me wrong, it's great, but he's a Carolina family hire. That's how it should be viewed first. We have a rich tradition of talented players and coaches in our family and we hire from within our family. That's what makes Carolina, Carolina.
Im excited about the hire. Hubert will give it his all and will do well. Congrats Coach Davis.

Hubert Davis is a GREAT hire. He's the right man at the right time. They always say you want to replace the coach that replaced the great coach. But Hubert will be just fine because he has the complete backing of the UNC family. He'll have no problem recruiting the top players and he'll have no problem coaching them. Hubert Davis has a high basketball IQ and will have a great coaching staff. The one knock on Hubert was that he's not fiery enough. But he'll get in your face when he has to. Players won't run over him. Besides, those Bob Knight days are over. I don't see Scott Drew, Juwan Howard or Mark Few cursing players out and they've been pretty successful as head coaches.

Maybe one day people can just praise the person's qualifications for the job without qualifying them based on their race. Davis has paid his due to get this job and deserves it....has nothing to do with him being an African-American coach. When they qualify it like that, they make it sound like he's being given an opportunity based on race and he didn't actually earn it.

Maybe your comprehension is bad. They said that Hubert Davis was highly-qualified and well-deserving of the job. They are merely mentioning Hubert Davis' race to underscore the fact that prominent "Power 5" schools are FINALLY hiring African-American coaches after years of passing them over for less-qualified whites. In fact, North Carolina passed over 12 year assistant Phil Ford to hire Matt Doherty back in 2000. They were praising major college basketball schools for finally hiring Black head coaches and people like you turn it into a negative. Typical.

Hubert was never an “all-American”, but he was a 2nd-team “all-ACC”. This is a common mistake. That being said, Hubert is going to make Carolina proud. He’s going to be a phenomenal head coach for a long time to come and am thrilled to see him hired as HC.

I like the hire. Personally I'd like to see Hubert bring in Rasheed Wallace as an assistant. They need to bring the toughness and intensity in every game not just against Duke. Defense and perimeter offense hopefully will be focal points under Hubert.

Hubert used to come to my dorm room as a freshman because I had the most popular card games on campus. He's a very nice guy. I don't think he's cut out to be head coach though. Not because he doesn't have heart or intellect. He just isn't that competitive and you need that at Carolina's level. Very nice guy though. I hope it works out for him.

No u keep it in the family. IT will be easier for Hubert to attract players because he played before. Any young guy is always gonna listen to someone that played over 10 years in the NBA. Remember Carolina is just a stepping stone these young boys dream is to make it to the NBA and Hubert can show them how to get there while winning games

And its simple laziness from this network in previous telecast that incorrectly reported Coach Roy Williams won 1 championship at Kansas and 2 at Carolina. It is 3 at Carolina and 0 at Kansas. IN addition Hubert Davis played @ Carolina from 1988 - 92; not from 98-92.

Great hire, but if I were Hubert Davis I would want my race to have nothing to do with my job, I want it because I deserve it more than anyone else. I just think Stephen A wants coaches to be hired that are black for that reason alone. Everyone deserves an opportunity, I just feel that people like Stephen A shouldn’t focus solely on that aspect. If you just got hired you want to hear about how all of your accomplishments and work got you where you are, not their color. You can already tell if NC hired a guy like Sean Miller Stephen A would not have supported it. I personally love that more African Americans are getting more coaching jobs, as a future coach myself, I just don’t think everytime a coach is hired people like Stephen A shouldn’t get pissed when it’s not a black person.

What’s up with this Kessler thing? Hubert wants him back and called him and asked him to come back. Why did he really leave in the first place? Did Roy yell at him one day and scare him and the kid’s folks off?
Roy wanted him playing back to the basket and that's not his game. He is a stretch 4 and wants to shoot the rock. He will likely never put enough size on to pound in the post all the time. Hopefully, Hubert can get him back and use him how he should be used.

Another WOKE hire. Let's not forget that after Dean Smith retired, the job went to his long time assistant of 30 years Bill Guthridge...who lasted 3 years in the job before being replaced by Roy Williams. NOBODY ever mentions Bill Guthridge...he's like the guy who was never there. It's never good when you get the job because you were someone's assistant and people want to make it seem like you deserve the job or you have earned the job. North Carolina did this because their hands are tied...if they did not give Davis the job, they would be accused of being racist. This past season, the Tar Heels struggled under Roy Williams...so it's fair to say that Hubert Davis is not inheriting a particularly good team...it doesn't matter what race you are, North Carolina will not tolerate MEDIOCRE results for more than 3 years. So, Hubert Davis has MAX, 3 seasons to get to a final four or win it all, or he will be out of a job...no matter what all the WOKE people have to say.

You aren’t telling the full story. Guthridge coached 3 years and went to the Final Four twice. He then retired, UNC hired Doherty, THEN Roy came in after Doherty. In no way was Guthridge bad, he’s got a banner with his name on it in the Smith Center.
