Tampa local here, Baker is our QB he found a home in Tampa because we embraced him as he is. Gave him the freedom to do what he does best, and we thank him for everything. He's got that DAWG!!! He fits in perfectly with our rowdy krewe and we're going to suprise people this year.

As a Browns fan I never wanted him drafted, I wanted Allen. Rookie year for Baker I had hope in my team for the first time in ages. Won a playoff game and I was like omg we have a chance to do something. He loses the locker room to a terrible OBJ situation. He plays hurt and has a bad year and they ship him out like he was trash. Let's not forget how many coaches and coordinators he dealt with in Cleveland that's always bad for young QBs.
He was treated like trash in Carolina and wanted out. He liked LA but they were never giving up on Stafford so he went to Tampa to try to prove he's a starting QB.
In Tampa He was disrespected by media that Trask was better, media kept picking not only the Saints but Atlanta over the Bucs and Mayfield proved them all wrong.
No one's wrong to say he's a disappointment from a #1 pick perspective but to act like this man hasn't been absolutely disrespected at almost every stop in the NFL is nuts.
The only time this dude has even had the same system and coaches for more than a year is his injury plagued 2nd season with Stefanski which he shouldn't be crucified for. If he doesn't play he's not tough enough for the league as a smaller QB. It was a lose lose situation for him.
Think about that Browns coaching staff when Baker got there: HC Hue Jackson, OC Todd Haley, QBC Freddie Kitchens. Those guys are all bums.
@@JackSchitt-p9tthen Gregg Williams, Freddie kitchens, and the one year he had the same coach/OC he gets injured and toughs through it. Plays inconsistent (expected through an injury) and reaggravates it a few weeks later, and they continue to play him. Gets scapegoated for all of Cleveland’s offensive issues and tossed aside for a massage enthusiast (not gonna use any stronger words). The couple weeks with the rams revived his career and more importantly his belief in himself, which has payed dividends for not only himself but also for Tampa. Cannot write a better rollercoaster story for a player.
I agree with both sides, he’s a top 11-16 QB, but at the same time he has 100% been disrespected. He was under appreciated at the browns, Carolina was playing PJ Walker over him, LA he looked great just they simply had stafford, & he had a great season with a buccaneers team where nobody had faith in them, everyone had saints winning that division 😂
I’d put him more at 5-10 based on his best healthy seasons given all the proper context, but 11-15 is fair given the numbers. What always baffles me is people think orgs take a guy #1 for the same reasons every time. That simply isn’t the case. Sometimes they pick a guy because they view him as having the highest ceiling, sometimes they pick the guy who is viewed as the most pro-ready, depending on their needs at the time. If you are a stable organization with a serviceable starter that can take you on a playoff run, you might pick a raw but high ceiling guy you can develop behind the vet for one or two years, like the Chiefs and Mahomes. If you are a struggling team with no good options at QB but an otherwise solid roster, you might pick the guy who is the most pro-ready to take advantage of the current roster, which is what I think the Browns did by picking Mayfield over Allen.
They don't mention that if Higgins didn't fumble the ball on the goal line against the Chiefs, Baker would've had the winning drive.

He got hit helmet to helmet and they didn’t call a flag. That was before the half and before baker started to really cook. Could’ve been the difference because the browns ended up losing by 5 smh.

A lot of people overlook his rookie year imo. Didn’t make his first start until their 5th game and still broke the rookie passing touch down record, at the time, and brought the Browns back to being relevant. They won 1 game the previous two seasons combined before he got there and he led them to a playoff win. Yes he had a terrible second season but since then he’s been a successful quarterback. I don’t Judge him on his last year in Cleveland because he was playing through a serious injury. Then they sent him to the worst team in the league and all he’s done is revive his career since then. People need to put more Respect Bakers game. He might not be a top 5 guy he’s one of the better quarterbacks in the league.

You guys are so wrong. Mayfield had pro bowl numbers last year in a crummy offensive scheme. Canales was a total failure as a first time play caller. You had to watch every game to see the plays this guy called. It was run up the middle on 1st and 2nd and throw on 3rd. No motion, no game planning. Finally later in the season Canales got a little better. With Coen the offense will be 100x better. As far as the Bucs first SB, Booger didn’t even play in it because he was always injured. Maybe that is why he hates the Bucs? Or was it Because Sapp was 10x better? lol.

If you look at the first 6 seasons of Baker Mayfield vs Drew Brees the numbers are very similar with Baker edging Drew out in several categories. QBR for Drew was 87.5 and QBR for Baker was 88.1. It’s more about finding the right fit as a QB than anything else. Too many coaches in the league think a QB should adjust to the system the coach wants to run instead of creating a system that fits the QB’s individual skills. It will be interesting to see where his career goes from here but all things equal he got as good a shot as anyone to be an all pro year over year with the players he has around him.

Brock Purdy and Jalen Hurts are also both 6'1" and they both went to the Super Bowl and nearly beat Patrick Mahomes, and neither of them had a problem pushing the ball downfield over defensive lines. Drew Brees was six feet tall and he's a Super Bowl champion, a guaranteed Hall of Famer, and one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game. Kyler Murray at 5'10" is a short quarterback. Second, Trevor Lawrence is also a #1 draft pick, and has he lived up to expectations for the Jaguars? Has he shown that he was worth a five year, $275 million contract?

Last year the Jaguars entered the month of December with a record of 8-3 and a clear shot at not only winning the division, but even the #1 seed. #12 Qb is a big difference than 16+. One part he says he’s not a top half Qb then the next he says 16 to 12. #12-14 is a fair assessment at this point. If he has another good season then we can start talking about him as a 8-12 best Qb. I don’t know anyone saying he’s a top 5 other than T. Hill.
LA wanted to re-sign him. Mayfield wanted to be a starter, so he signed with the Bucs and things worked out. That turned out to be a smart decision since Stafford is still playing.

Baker has been inconsistent, and I’m a huge fan. But when baker is comfortable in a system and has weapons he can win you games. So while he has underachieved as a #1 overall pick , I think he’s done well considering all of the turnover with coaches and OCs he has gone through. Even now in Tampa he will have his 7th OC and 6th HC in his career. Hopefully he can string some consistency together and play through his contract with some momentum for the rest of his career.

A QB is only as good as the scheme and coaching that is around him, the clown show that was Cleveland and Carolina showed how true that can be! The Rams and the Bucs had coaches who understood Baker's game and strengths and were able to capitalize on those qualities. Everyone is giving Trevor Lawrence a pass because he was drafted by a disfunctional organization and is dealing with an injury. But you don't give Baker that same respect. Why? Because the Browns let Baker go and the Jags stuck with Trevor. Again, why make Baker pay for Cleveland's poor decisions?
Baker is not a top 5 QB, BUT he is in the top 10 conversation. He's won more playoff games than Kirk Cousins. His numbers last year were in the same ball park as Stafford, Hurtz, and Goff. But I rank them above Baker because of playoff wins.
But Dak, Tua, Love, Stroud, and Lawrence... All those guys get more respect than Baker, even though Baker is just as good as (if not better than) they are.

In a more recent video Dan-O also argued with other analyst that the Browns aren’t getting the attention they deserve. I commented that Baker was a big part in that initial turn around from being a bottom of the barrel team. Great to see both the Browns and Baker have success.
But he was the number one overall pick, and much is expected going that high.
But when we bring up Trevor all of a sudden we get a lot more excuses. The only differences is the Browns pigeon holed Baker.

Even 6' 3" QBs (with their eyes 5' 10" above the ground) aren't seeing OVER 6' 4" O-linemen! ALL QBs see their targets BETWEEN the linemen. AND! McVay didn't get rid of him, he went looking for a team he'd have a chance to start at and found it in Tampa. McVay traded for him, through a simplified playbook at him to win a game in 48 hours. Carolina was a mess which just continued for another season, maybe more. Cleveland decided to pursue Watson for some reason and hasn't really shown that was the right decision. Mad Dog is right though, he's in that 12-15 range, upper half, not quite Top 10 QB in league.

I really don’t know why so many espn speakers don’t like Baker. First the Georgia game he did not loose it Lincoln Riley lost that game. They should have beat KC if wasn’t for that bad call. Detroit it was poor decision on baker. Yet he turned around Cleveland browns and they ship him off cause he argued with stefansky about the plays he was calling. Carolina was just a bad fit. LA they just needed someone that can win. Out of Sam darnold, Josh Rosen , Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen. Baker the only QB from that draft. That has won playoff game. So I dont understand the hate towards baker. He a good quarterback and can get a team to a playoffs . That’s my opinion.
