    Henning, thanks for executing an off-the-cuff no manual-at-hand demo, and showing us how this pedal stands up to the 'monkey method' of slacker pedal operation. It has a genuine hands-on game set worthy of purchase!

    This, to me, is the ACTUAL successor to the dd-20. Even just looking at its controls, layout and the “memory/tap” switch, it’s immediately reminiscent of my dd-20. If anything this is more of a stab at that market. The dd-500 is a different animal altogether. It’s bigger and more powerful than both this AND the timeline. I’ve built convincing tape flange and chorus sounds with that stupid thing. It’s just so infinitely adjustable...unless there’s some powerhouse pedal I’m not aware of out there, it’s at the top of the heap in that category. This is a beautiful addition to the line, though. It’s perfect for guys who just don’t need/want infinite flexibility

    • @myrnabrean
      @myrnabrean 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      you can assign the memory/tap button to globally be a HOLD (see TE-2), WARP or TWIST (See DD-20) but you can't assign patch by patch. So if you like the press 'n hold action of the dd-20 and might use the looper, maybe add a 2 button ext fs.
      Also, cool review. Also, back to back with my Rubberneck- I can get the Analog alg to sound identical in like, 2 minutes.
      This won't stop me from buying delays though. That would be just silly.

    Just bought one of these pedals and I totally love it.
    It does all the "greatest hits" delay sounds you'd want for live use, it's physically smaller than you'd think, no menu diving for tweaking sounds, it's got analog dry through, and costs $250.
    The only thing it doesn't really do is ping-pong but if you're not running stereo that doesn't matter.
    It's about as good as it gets without going full-priced flagship delay pedal.

      @thekramer1097 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGgreen100 I have the dd500 but I guess they have almost the same algorythms. In dual delay mode it has the option to use percentages or milliseconds, I go with percentages. Then I do it with 50% time in delay 2 ( delay 1 stays at 100%) for quarter note delay. And for a dotted eight delay, delay 1 still stays at 100% and delay 2 goes at 50% BUT in the tap selection I go for dotted quarter note (if that makes sense) because I found that sounds more musical to my ears the slower trails bouncing from one side to the other. Anyway you can experiment what sounds best to you

    • @TheGgreen100
      @TheGgreen100 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @spankenheim 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      rolandcorp.com.au/blog/which-boss-digital-delay-dd-200-vs-dd-500 sound quality is pretty much identical. 500 has two simultaneous engines which you can run in parallel (one on the left one on the right) or in series and there's a "vintage" delay model which covers the early digital delays. There's a broader range of parameters for each algo. The 200 is much more dialed in to sweet spots but the 500 will let you go places that make no sense, or, maybe they do.

    • @KorhanErel
      @KorhanErel 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Don’t have either pedal but the 200 has more physical controls than the 500, even though it is smaller in size. So, if I were to get one of the DDs, it would be the 200 for live performances.

    3 AA batteries adds up to 4.5V, at 225 mA, that is probably not gonna last a whole gig.
    I agree Henning, drop the battery compartment and include free midi cables or even proper standard DIN in and outputs.
    For like 50 years the five pin DIN plug was the standard for MIDI, why change it? Mini jacks are for audio in my humble opinion. Avoid confusion.

    It doesn't even come with DIN-MIDI and I am not sure about line level input, but this is a minimum requirement for a good studio pedal. Therefore: no it CAN'T compete with the good ones.

      And what exactly does your statement have to do with the pedal presented here?
      To be honest, I doubt that a bit, since you often have to operate a dozen devices in the studio and Bluetooth often messes up even simple point-to-point connections.

    By “big boys” do you mean the overpriced boutique delays?
    Boss was a big boy long before those companies even existed and will be around when many of them are gone.
    People that want there pedal board to look legit fill it with pedals from your “big boys”. People who want it to work right and get the job done use Boss. I’ve seen a lot of live shows lately where people plop down a $5000 pedalboard full of Strymons and botique pedals and all of what supposedly makes them cool/unique just gets lost in the mix of a full band in a live mix. Bedroom playing with headphones deludes people into thinking that’s what they need but a live situation makes most of it irrelevant

      Right, that moment a company that has been killing it for almost 50 years isnt a big boy... I mean maybe they had some low points. But they have many Staples and iconic pedals. I really dig alot of the stuff they are doing now.

      Boss build quality isn't what it once was and the sound of their pedals is always "OK" not "Great"

      @@benink5690 I've never seen a broken Boss pedal. So much for the build quality. As for the sound, I think my Boss Blues Driver sounds great. My old DD-5 sounded great and even the Super Chorus sounded as good as most other choruses I've heard so far, apart from the chorus of my Re-301, which is, surprise, the same as a CE-1. I'm looking forward to my DD-200, but I'm fairly optimistic. :)

      Technical Comment:
      I wish you could turn /adjust knobs in a way that the camera/viewer can see which knob you are changing & how the screen changes with the knob tweaks .....rather than just the back of your hand. Otherwise a cool demo.
