    The a57 is more in line with the Nikon D5100. The 'main' differences is the a37 has faster autofocus in stills and videos, an electronic viewfinder and a smaller body and the Nikon D5100 has a more flexible screen, an optical viewfinder and a larger body. Best to go try them both out and see which one fits you better since they are both different types of cameras (EVF vs OVF and smaller body vs larger body). Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    @JohnSisonPhotography  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the compliment. To answer your question, this camera does have manual focus when taking photos.

    Its true that the translucent mirror is delicate just like any other mirror box in a DSLR/DSLT camera and I highly recommend that you do not touch it with your fingers. If there is dust on the mirror it won't have any effect on image quality but if you want to get rid of it I'd recommend using a blower to get rid of it. As for the LCD screen, it will scratch if you don't take care of it, just like any other LCD screen on a camera. I'd recommend getting a screen protector.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography

    That's a tough one because it depends on what you prefer. If you want a small camera with slightly better low light performance the NEX cameras are the way to go. However, they don't have as many lenses as the A-mount cameras but you can still use an adaptor and that will add some cost.
    With the A-mount cameras like the a37, you have the built in viewfinder and more external controls and more lenses to choose from. Plus you have faster autofocus in stills and videos. Hope that helps!

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes it will work with the a37. I would definitely recommend it if you are an entry level photographer or even the a58 which was just released.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    What I mean with manual control is that you can control the aperture and shutter speed for video. The a37 doesn't have this option. a37 only has 50i and 25p. 600D doesn't have 60p. The a57 which is the model above the a37 has 60p or 50p depending on which region you bought it (NTSC or PAL).

  • @JohnSisonPhotography

    Press the drive mode button (its a circle and next to it our three rectangles overlapping icon) and once thats done, select 'continuous shooting hi'.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi. To answer your question, there are tradeoffs with all of them. The NEX-5N would give you the best image quality and low light performance, however the a37 has a much faster autofocus with a built in electronic viewfinder. The HX200 however has the longest zoom but doesn't have as good quality of images as the other two cameras. In the end it really depends on what you want most out of your camera.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    You won't be disappointed with that camera! I'll be playing with that in a few days and I'll be writing up a short blog post that I'll also link on my facebook page so you know a bit more about the camera.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I usually shoot in AVCHD at 25p usually in Aperture priority. What settings are you using?

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can't update the hardware but you can update the software by downloading the firmware updates online and connecting your camera to a computer. Spec wise the 600D may be a bit better but the a37 is an entry level camera where the 600D is a mid level camera. They both have their own pros and cons. The 600D has manual video control and a flip out lcd screen whereas the a37 can shoot faster at 7fps, has a tilting screen and has accurate continuous autofocus in stills and videos.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Definitely! This camera is catered for beginners.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It depends on where you bought it from but in some regions where it is (PAL) you will only get 50i and 25p and in other regions (NTSC) its 60i and 24p.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you can live with an EVF I say it is the better deal. Mainly because you can get those quick frames per second shooting which is great for action and continuous autofocus in stills and videos which is more efficient than the Nikon D5100.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    With interchangeable lens cameras we don't use the term 30x optical zoom. They are mainly used for compact cameras since they have a fixed lens instead of an interchangeable one.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry for the late reply. The difference is that the a57 is larger, has a better build, a better electronic viewfinder and has a tilt and swivel display. It also shoots at 10 frames per second vs 7fps on the a37.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would get the a37. Everything is so much better on it. I'm sure you'll love it.

    Hi! I have a Sony a37 with f1.8/50mm lens and I love it. I have this camera for over 2 years now and just barely getting serious with it. I have no problems taking pictures outdoor when it's a cloudy day. But when it's sunny I do not know which angles or settings to set at. Well the only setting I change is the exposure and aperture. The ISO and WB I just leave them on auto. Also my lens and body I leave them on autofocus. I really appreciate it if you could give me some advice and or tips. Thank you!

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's right. All Minolta Autofocus lenses will work on any Sony DSLR/DSLT cameras.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm glad to hear that I'm your best photography channel! =.D
    To be honest I don't use the touch screen on the NEX-5N and I don't imagine myself using it on the NEX-5R (if I ever bought one). Its not smartphone sensitive if you know what I mean and it needs a bit of pressure to maneuver through the menu but its really up to personal preference.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    If its 25p its not recommended that you use it for slow motion since the video would appear 'choppy'. To change the frame rates though just press menu, navigate to the video settings (film strip icon). and make sure you're recording in AVCHD and select 50i. Since its only available in interlace and not progressive, you won't be able to get as much smoothness compared with 50p which are available on higher end models like the a57.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The a37 is better in my opinion. Image quality and low light performance will be better on the a37 but you do have a longer focal length without the hassle of changing lenses on the HX200. Its a bit of a tradeoff between the two.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Mac computers have trouble reading AVCHD files. Its best to convert them to .mov files or another format. A good and simple program you can use is media converter which is a free download.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think its worth the extra money. You get more autofocus points, a better camera build and weather resistance, faster fps, top lcd and more buttons, the ability to use a vertical grip and you can shoot at ISO50. Those are the main differences I can think of at the top of my head. If you don't need this then the 65 would be the better buy. Let me know if you have any other questions =.)

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    That really depends on what your preferences are. Firstly if you can live with the electronic viewfinder on the a37, I think the a37 is the better valued choice because of its quick continuous autofocus in stills and videos. That's not to say the T3i isn't good, its just as good as but if you prefer an optical viewfinder and a larger body the Canon would be the better choice.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah it'll work fine. When I was deciding which brand to get between the tamron and the sigma, I chose the Sigma instead because of the HSM motor.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Main differences are the a57 has a bigger body, higher resolution LCD and swivel screen and can shoot up to 12 frames per second. You also have manual control in video mode on the a57.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't have an exact date but rumors say it'll be next month with a 24megapixel sensor.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    All very good cameras. The a57 is the most advanced of all the cameras mentioned has faster autofocus for stills and videos and a flexible articulating LCD screen. For video its also the most advanced out of the bunch.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry for the late reply. 24fps wont give you smooth slow motion video. Unfortunately the a37 doesn't support 720p.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd definitely recommend this camera if you can get it for that price. You'll get a lot of neat features that aren't presently available on other DSLRs at the moment.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Its decent but the 600D would perform better. Plus you don't have any manual controls for the a37 compared to the 600D but the model above the a37 which is the a57 would have manual controls.

    Hello John I need your advise as I have Alfa 37 please advise me which lens i should buy Carl zesis 135 mm or 100mm macro for portraits/ flowers/ Birds shooting

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm I would probably go with the Carl Zeiss 135mm lens. Its going to be great for portraits and the quality is amazing. It might struggle a bit with shooting birds because they're usually fast moving subjects but once you nail the focus it'll be perfect.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would recommend the a37 over the d3000. I feel like the a37 has more to offer over the d3000 such as the tilting LCD screen, electronic viewfinder, features such as sweep panorama and 7fps continuous shooting and peaking mode. I do recommend you try them out at a store first.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Probably 600D since its a mid level camera where the a37 is entry level. The a57 would be more in line with it.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah definitely! Its great for sports photography but if you're not so much on a budge the a57 would be a bit better to get those extra fps but if you decide to get the a37, get it with the 18-135mm kit lens. Its pretty good.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Its decent for an entry level camera and in my opinion better than the other entry level optical viewfinders mainly because its a 100% coverage and what you see is what you get in the viewfinder. If you could I would suggest to try out the viewfinder at a camera store.

    Hello, I'm having a hard time adjusting the auto focus for photos in manual mode and others .. it seems like for photos it does not adjust the auto focus by just pressing the AF button or the shooter button to focus. In video mode it focuses auto! with the approach of the object. In manual mode is it normal to have a processing delay after capture?

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could your camera be to manual focus when you're in the photo mode? I can't think of any other reason why this would be the case, especially if your camera autofocus in video. Otherwise, I would just try resetting the whole camera. It could just be a simple setting that we're missing. There can be some processing delay if you noise reduction turned on. Turn it off so you don't get that delay. There could also be processing delays if you have multi shot functions turned on too.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The a37 has an electronic viewfinder rather than an optical one on the D5100 and the body of the camera is smaller so you may want to see if you prefer one over the other. Image quality would be very similar with the Nikon having a bit of an edge in low light performance but the Sony has a much faster and efficient auto-focusing system than the one in the Nikon. Also the D5100 has a flip out screen to the side where as the Sony can only tilt. If you do get the a37 you can get a nice 50mm lens.

    I don't. If other companies were to provide them, I would do comparison reviews but its strictly just Sony because there aren't many reviews on them YoutTube, especially on lenses.
    That's hard because I don't know much about the Pentax but I've always liked how they had weather sealing. Comparing them though, I think the a37 is better value, mainly because it has the tilting LCD, faster autofocusing in stills and videos and EVF because what you see is what you get (that one is debatable)

    I have this camera and was wondering if Upgrading to a rebel for video would be better what do you think??

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The flash has different uses such as being used as a fill light on a sunny day or to trigger external flashes wirelessly.
    If its bright outside the EVF will be way better than the LCD because there's no sun reflections on the screen which some people will find very useful.
    The new 16-50mm kit lens will be available on both the NEX-5R and NEX-6 and if compact size is what you want its better to get the new kit lens. Optically I'm not too sure which is better since I haven't used it.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The a37 will be better for sports photos but the nex-f3 is slightly better in low light. Both camera will do very well with night landscapes as long as you use a tripod.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you can stretch it, I'd say get the a58 because it has a better viewfinder, a higher resolution sensor 20megapixels vs 16 megapixels and tethering. If those things don't matter to you that much, I'd say the a37 would be a bargain!

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd recommend the a37 but that's because I love using electronic viewfinders now. I suggest you try them both in a store and see which one you like better.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The RMTDSLR2 is a simple remote that would work with it. Not too expensive but if you want a simple one, this would be it.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah its a good entry level camera. I suggest you try it out to see how it handles and if you like the EVF. If not, a better camera may be the a58.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    With lenses that have f1.8 or f1.4 the low light performance will do a great job in video mode.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Both good cameras but I'd have to suggest the a37. It just has so many features that make it better than the D3100 like faster frames per second, electronic viewfinder, tilting LCD screen and a better autofocus system.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    There may be some difference between the two. The a37 will be the better camera with low light performance and overall image quality compared to the olympus because of the larger sensor.

    Between the two cameras, Sony a37 unless you prefer optical viewfinders more than electronic viewfinders.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    They both share the same sized sensor, in fact Sony makes a few of the Nikon sensors that Sony also uses in their cameras. They would both have very similar image quality and it would be hard to tell them apart. The Nikon would be slightly better in low light situations though. The EVF or OVF is really down to personal opinion. I tried the EVF and I always prefer using it. Mainly because I get an accurate representation of my final image rather than an OVF where I sometimes have to guess.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'll see what I can do. The HX100 and HX200 are very similar to be honest. The only thing that appears to be different is the sensor which is 18megapixels and added picture effects.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yep you're right. They have downgraded a few of the features ever since the a33 and I assume its just to cut costs. The buffer on the a37 lasts for quite a while when shooting at 7fps.

    I bought a 37A last week. Would you be kind enough to tell me how to set it up to shoot at 5.5 frames per second in manual or auto?

    When I zoom in video mode or photograph, sometimes I get this text: "Check the lens attachment. If the lens is not suppoted, you can permit use of the lens in the custom menu" in video mode, recording ends abruptly when this text appears.
    Check the input and the target is well placed. Do you know how I can solve it? Or if it is normal when zooming?
    Thank you for your attention. :)

      Hold down the +/- button and turn the dial. That will allow you to change the aperture.
