      I'd say most people watching rate it highly so wouldn't call it underrated! He's growing well though and it's good to see the recognition coming in.

    I'm a huge fan of racing against AI like yourself, it would be pretty sweet if you could do a sort of video/tutorial on how you usually set up the AI, getting them just right seems impossible half the time.

    • @dodge33cymru
      @dodge33cymru 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not sure you still need to know this, but Race Weekends are your friend in AC. 2 reasons:
      1. The AI tweaks their setup in practice runs, things like gear ratios, fuel settings, wing settings, which makes a huge difference
      2. Qualifying sorts the grid by pace, not just by AI skill. This is really important if you have a mixed car grid, because it effectively orders cars by the average of their skill and the car's fit to the circuit
      That's a real quick thing - of course there's plenty to do with the track and car AI files too

    Great video, nice car. BTW the 302 Ford is not "primarily a truck engine". The small block Ford series (260, 289, 302, 351) were the core engines in all US Ford cars from the early 1960s through the early 1980s. They were the mainstay of many Ford race cars, including the GT40 family and the original Shelby Cobra.

    • @GPLaps
      @GPLaps  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Gotcha, that makes sense! I know this car features a similar transaxle to the ford GT40, so its almost like an opened wheel GT40 with better brakes. Thanks for the extra info!

      Bob McL I owned a 1970 Cougar Eliminator, Boss 302' which I purchased new in 1970.
      It was equipped from the factory, with a Boss 302 engine, oil cooler, Hurst 4speed floor shifter, Detroit Locker, and a Drag Pack rear end.
      Feeling feisty after attending a nite stock car race, on the way home on a 4 lane highway, with four people in the car, I buried the needle, at 155 plus, miles per hour. I only backed of the throttle when the front end began to float, and steering became dicey.
      I'm fairly certain that it's the only car to ever spin out at Road America, with an inverted canoe on top.

      @@Taurcan so cool! I only ever saw one Cougar Eliminator, and only a handful of the sister Boss 302 Mustangs up here in Canada. But I still remember both models well. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

      Bob McL One correction. The windsor/sbf engine family was used until 1996. Other notable car the ford small black/windsor was used in is the Saleen s7. They used a bored and stroke 351 to 427/ 7L.

    Racing today needs a redo. IRL this would be a cool series of open wheeled simple and accessable parts. Formula 5000 lite. Engines not over 400bhp and low rpm but needs to find safe ways to build.

    This idea is what I think modern cars should be, perhaps give this some slicks and a bit more power and some safety devices and we've got an incredible race car.

    Using a 302 would make this car more of a generic Formula A car rather than Formula 1. Formula A eventually would turn into Formula 5000.

    Obviously they're front rather than mid engines but this isn't a million miles away from the Caterham 420R racing in the UK, no downforce, open(ish) wheels, grippy tyres, and really close racing.

    I watched a lot of AMA Superbike racing from VIR several years ago. It's a very good circuit indeed and nice to just look at as well.
    Btw I just began to wonder: How do you come out with a 16:9 aspect ration video when you do the actual racing in 21:9 or whatever aspect ration your ultra widescreen display is?

  • @timonsolus
    @timonsolus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you very much for posting this video!
    I've been watching your playlists and wondering whether it would be possible to create, in real life, a 1960's style retro racing formula that would be a lot of fun for fans to watch.
    This car seems to indicate that it would be technologically possible!
    The only drawback of racing this car in real life might be the driver safety aspect. Could a car like this meet modern open wheel safety standards?
    Obviously no halo, but what about a crash resistant safety zone in the cockpit, so a driver can crash it at high speed and walk away afterwards with nothing more than a few bruises?

    The 289 wasn't a "truck" engine. Sure it was used in 1/2 pickup trucks but was used in way more Ford cars than trucks. Just as an example my first car was a 1966 Mustang which had a 289HO V8 and 3 speed transmission. These engines and it's successor the 302 V8 was used throughout it's vehicle luneup.
