The real Elton John Band - Murray, Olsson and Johnstone. Nothing before and nothing after. RIP✝️✝️Dee Murray. What a shame you aren't around and on stage with your bandmates anymore.
great video - that assembly of musicians was Elton's best band and this film documents and captures them at the absolute pinnacle of their brilliance - RIP Dee you are sorely missed
GYBR was my first LP and EJ at GSO Coliseum '74 was my first concert, I remember seeing this doc on TV around that time. I love his music as much or more today, and his original line-up was as good as any band in rock.
Dany Bailey has that Elton John magic sound to me. It used to be played scarcely on the radio here in Brazil, and believe me, I kept my receiver on just to hear it again and they never played. Then again, I kept doing this to all his newly released songs for I immediately fell in love with it at first hearing.
I agree. Elton has a melody in this that is fun to sing along with loud. I also like the next album track "Dirty Little Girl" a lot, my fave. His voice is so powerful in that one. They were so lucky to have Elton in the band. He had good talent around him, but with out Elton's vocals and melodies, you have no songs. I wonder if they realized how special he was then.
Prior to the Del Newman score! The secret sauce behind many Elton recordings. Paul Buckmaster had arranged everything up until this point like a master, and Del did a fine job
How did you get this? I remember watching this on American TV in the '70s. Danny Bailey is one of my all-time favorite songs. I remembered EJ miming the keyboard part during the playback!
The studio listen is sweet but obviously staged. According the band and Dudgeon, the LAST person you wanted around after recording was complete was Elton. He'd get too bored and restless. God bless that little genius.
Elton has to listen to the finished songs! Why wouldnt he? The village of Herouville at that time, was so sparse. There was nothing there. It was just the Chateau surrounded by farmland* . There were 3 buildings on the Chateaus property, One was the studio, the other was the dorm house with bedrooms and communal eating and living areas. The 3rd was shed and lodging for the workers. They booked The Honky Chateau (as ppl now call it) for 3 weeks but only used it for 2. All the wives and GFs and John Reid were there with them. So Bernie would be holed up in his dorm room with Maxine. Hed write some lyrics, Maxine corrected the spelling and went down and gave them to Elton. Elton wrote the music near the kitchen window and then theyd walk to the studio building and record it and then sit around and listen (what you see here) then EJ would go get Bernie and make him listen. EJ says he LOVEs seeing Bernies face. So Id say this was accurate. *Go look at the gatefold of the Honky Chateau album, The picture of Bernie was taken in the cornfield across the street from The Chateau.
Who is Ray Williams? Do you mean Ray Cooper? If so, EJ hasn't done anything to him. They're working together in the Vegas show as I type in May of 2012. Incidentally, Reid and EJ were lovers in those days and Reid actually worked very hard to keep the EJ Express rolling smoothly.
Action Media Productions you're quite right! I don't know what I was thinking; maybe other tracks. Anyway, this mix seems to have no backing vocals either.
In memory of eliska and the sheriff of tulle lake my granpa max douglas county has the highest rate of child murderers in the universe hi lt.commander alan johnson MY HERO

The best ahead of all others
Although I agree, I think we can fit ray cooper in there. Please? 🥺

The speed is slowed down on this. It is a lovely documentary made by his neighbor, if I remember correctly.
SONG IS PHENOMENAL
it's cool to see the band bobbing their heads around to their own awesome work
One of my fave EJ songs! Total classic! Interesting sound without the orchestration and background vocals. Thanks for this!
One.of my favorite songs of all time the backing vocals piano perfection
This is a classic track ❤

I love Elton... this is great!!
One of my Eltons fav from my fav album.
I love the bass on the piano in this song. Not just the songwriting but the actual piano that was used for the recording.
Saw Elton live in Exeter 5 ft from the stage YOU RULE ROCKETMAN WE LOVE YA! So sorry you are going we will miss the Yellow Brick road man!
I wonder where "the scent of fresh-mown grass" is coming from. That yard hasn't had a trim for a while.
Ahem.. don't ask, don't tell.
I was in that room ,touching that piano in '76
hi really? i m living near this village in france , that place was closed in 1985 but today after 30 years ago it open again ...this place is MAGIC...
Yes. There is a Facebook Group for Chateau d'Herouville. Check it out. A lot of history of who recorded there and many photos.

I used to see it on channel 5 WNEW from NYC in 1976- 1977. I have 2 different versions of this. Send me a private message if you want a copy.

Tom Moilanen and then stole millions of dollars from Elton..., just like Billy's manager did to him.
Ray Williams was Elton's first manager and the angel who connected Elton with Bernie.
*How much freshly grown grass can we consume?*
Richard Attenborough’s younger hip cousin
I think I spot a painting or photo of Frank Zappa on the wall. Was or is Elton a Zappa fan?
Also a way to hear the song without the strings and stuff.
chenlung1 agreed, but it makes you appreciate them, and the backing vocals.
The only thing missing is synthesisers (strings) - they would later be added in the UK I believe.
chenlung1 no synths. Del Newman describes how he arranged the strings on the making of GYBR DVD.
Action Media Productions you're quite right! I don't know what I was thinking; maybe other tracks.
Anyway, this mix seems to have no backing vocals either.
chenlung1 Love Lies Bleeding may be the only other song with synths, unless they’re buried deep.
I misheard "Bugged" there.
WE ARE STONED, LOL.
"we are ripped and having a great time,"
... i guess life jus bugged him
@groovycleaner Is this the documentary that Brian Forbes did? Elton John says Goodbye to Norma Jean and Other Things.
You just don't hear "Razzmatazz" fit into a sentence anymore. :D
Nigel looks a little baked there.
Does the Chateau still exist?
"Cause I'll bet she......I'll bet she....Oh I'll bet she hasn't had a bath in years!"
pls send me an electronic copy if you don't mind
Where did you take this video?

LOL. The band was stoned.
Razzmatazz LOL
We're all insanely stoned.
