    We are people that gather. Why boats, cars and houses always need to be bigger. Literally anchors on our paths through life. Watching you live on board shows you can do with less and still be spectacular.

    94 right now. Wind has died down, no rain in sight.

    Terysa, you’re clearly beaming with joy and it’s lovely! Sydney Harbour is just so beautiful and why it’s at the top of my destinations list, once I finally set sail. Nick, I remember when you got the Ruby Rose tattoo on your forearm, and I thought you said it was your first and only… But it looks like you’ve at least doubled your art with one on the back of your left arm. What is it, and how did I miss that?!? Quarantine time killer??

    So before we picked our ship in your current neck of the seas, we camped out on the 35th floor overlooking the Opera House for three days and remember looking across the bay and looking at boats on ball on the other side… wondering what it was like from their perspective… and you’s guys answered my inquisitive mind fourth hence! Priceless vids…. Thank you so much… Loved your comments about weight gain… happens to us motor heads too! Our current 42ft GFFB (go fast fish boat… 1050Hp… 600 gal fuel cap) is in its 7th year of matrimony with our Fam. We run from Ft Pierce to upper and middle keys every year for month… I log everything. Our MPG which was an amazing…. 1mpg has dove to the depths of .85 mpg…. Holy Sh__! This boat needs to go on a diet!! Our dinosaur juice here is back to $5/Gal… My Queen named our craft Knot So Fast…. I may apply to rename her Just A Little Bit Faster Honey? Still plenty of room for that across the transom…😎

    Regarding weight gain - to a certain extent monohulls are supposed to be more resistant to this than catamarans - as the extra weight help with staility and keeping the boat upright whereas with catamarans you don't get that gain and just get the extra drag.

  • @richardstott16
    @richardstott16 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting view on the sum of smaller items contributing to boat weight - and that didn’t include Nick’s beer stock and previously consumed but still carried! Part of attraction of SRR, other than your good selves of course, is items such as Technical Tuesdays. I understand that part of RR2 selection was sailing performance,and in particular light winds on longer passages, and hence a performance catamaran more than a wider hulls live aboard design. For light winds weight is key; and in the RR2 announcement I think it was 11t bare, 12t (with engines?) and target max of 15t to achieve good all round performance although you might sacrifice some performance as your live aboard criteria change over time. So with the evidence from clearing RR1 of the cumulative effect of non essential and life’s junk that we collect, will you actively have weight targets for categories of items as you load the boat to meet a 15t max so you can really see if achieve design performance. And then you can decide whether to increase to make living aboard easier or be brutal in can only add new items if other old items binned to maintain weight target?

    Hi Nick & Terysa - another great episode and as Aussie liveaboards in the Med for the last 6 yrs it's great to see you in Australia. A Q - I have no doubt that the benefits of a catamaran for liveaboards is substantial - even though I love the feel of a monohull heeling moderately in a medium breeze - and I liked your description of sailing vs living on boats and the accumulation of weight that occurs on most liveaboard boats. A negative for some when considering a catamaran is the generally greater cost. Do you have a sense for what the difference is in what you get for your dollar in a mono vs in a catamaran? By way of example, for whatever the price of the 1260 you're sailing is new, what sort of monohull of a similar quality would you get for the same money?
    Keep up the great work.
    Lachlan & Debbie

    • @sailingrubyrose

    So if Seawind hadn't been dropping the 1370, do you think you might have gone for the 1260? When I watched your tour of the 1260 all I could think was "This has to be one of the best cats I've seen!" It's about 90% of what I want. When the 1370 was announced, it was easy to see it and it's more modern styling and better looks and think "nope, this is the new hotness!" but I still feel like the 1260 has a lot to want, particularly if modern styling isn't a top priority for you. She seems like a dream to sail. Maybe not so much for the kind of person who would prefer something like a Marsaudon cat, but certainly for someone looking for a great liveaboard cat.
