Excellent. Watching your films reminds me of Roy Batty's speech in Blade Runner. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe" and "If only you could see what I've seen." Keep them coming.
thx for the great video, I have lived here for 62 years and have never seen a koala in the wild , even i go bush a bit , so you guys are lucky, i even bet my kids if they see a koala they will get $100, keep up the good work
I have been really enjoying the series. I recently came accross your channel and I find it inspiring. So far, i bought a 25 foor sloop to learn on. Its a project rebuild and im learning a lot. My dream is to eventually get a bigger boat and sail the blue water as well. First I have to learn to sail Puget Sound. I also enjoy your creative skills in your video editing, camera and filming skills. Thank you for inspiring me.
You have clearly brought all the English rain with you to the Australian desert, guys. It`s amazing how you manage to film all that wildlife: the kookaburra, the goanna, the wallaby and koalas and many more. Enjoy!
I noticed that you have Grey non-skid on deck. Have you ever considered changing this to white? You would be AMAZED at the reduction in ambient temperature down below, not to mention the reduction in the “Ow, ow, shit, shit!”scramble across decks in the Summer or tropical sun! ;-)
I used to fish under the bridge to Sovereign years ago,,, most of the island was just sand , no houses,, The old charts from 60 yrs ago showed that that current up to 6.4 knots down the Qld Coast
Hi Amy and Matt, all familiar scenery this time, great video as always 👍 Funny about weather forecasters keeping theirs jobs even though their advice is frequently wrong 😂 Dolphins are always the bringers of cheer, how can you possibly be sad when they are around 😊 Glad you've been able to experience the wild life unique to Aussie bush. See you next time, best wishes😊
Nice episode guys, loved those crabs! It's really great that you show that bad weather as well - so many channels just showing sunshine and palm trees! Whilst you're up and down that coast keep an eye out for Troy and Pascale on SV Marool (aka "Free Range Sailing") - a really interesting pair. I think they're in the Sydney area just now...
Another great video. On the way back north I hope you stop off along the way. Places like Lake Macquarie, Broughton Island, Camden Haven and the Clarence River are well worth a look.
Extraordinary story! Looks like this episode has it all... Drama with bad weather, good times with dolphins and nice food, and a happy ending with that wildlife place that didn't seem on your plans ... Oh... You didn't say, but did you Find Nemo?
Yet again, a wonderful video. You and Free Range Sailing are at the top of my list. Be nice to see you guys meet up. You have gotton so much use out of your dinghy, I am wondering how it is holding up. I have written you before, I am in the process of building an 11 foot version of the Spindrift. The guys at B&B say it is not necessary to glass the exterior of the boat. But I have added a layer of glass to the exterior and I have reinforced the bow with several layers of glass and glass tape. I am wondering if you just epoxied or did you glass and epoxy? I also see that you have added wood strips to the bottom for additional protection. I plan to do the same. I have cut my boat, but it seems that even though it looks like a dinghy, I figure I am only about 1/3 finished at this point. Seats, daggerboard trunk and forward compartment await, and that does not include rigging the boat. It has benn a fun project so far though.
Thank you, Our dinghy is epoxied only (not glass sheathed). She is showing a bit of wear and tear now but only cosmetic. Not bad after 3 years of constant use and only one re-paint so far. We would love to see how the 11ft version performs under sail (we wish ours was a little bigger!)
@@SailingYachtFlorence Yes, a friend is sailing in the Caribbean. His advice was to get the biggest dinghy that will fit on your boat and make it as strong as possible, (I guess within reason). The dinks take a beating in his opinion. Plus, I was limited to the space of a storage locker for the build. I glassed the bottom and added extra tape in the bow for towing. I have been posting pictures of my build on the Cape Dory Owners Association board. The boat is cut, and the hull is glassed, and I figure at this point I am probably 1/3 complete. I have slowed down on the dinghy build in order to get the big boat in the water sometime this season.
Hi folks. I watch lots of different sailing videos, but yours is my favourite. I appreciate the authenticity of your work. you provide a marvellous insight into the sailing life and into these various places of such wonder and delight. Thanks for your exceptional work. i trust you are able to continue for a long time to come. yours is a form of travellers journalism that is rare and a real delight to many who also travel though not by sea. Hi Matt and Amy my name is Brian I love your videos my friend and I are embarking on an around the world cruise later this year from Florida on a Hunter 44
Congratulations on another wonderful episode, you both have an amazing talent to actually transport the viewer onboard and into a very realistic and authentic sailing experience. (I think it may have something to do with the fact that you don’t rely on dubbing music over the natural audio and therefore more of our senses are stimulated(?)) I’m actually Sydney born and bred (And currently residing there) and i wish I had seen your episodes whilst you were here, as I could have extended the welcome mat to you. Never mind, there’s always next time! Yes, Dolphins ALWAYS uplift your mood and spirit when they grace us with their presence. They are the most inspirational animals to interact with! :-) Port Stephens is an absolutely gorgeous place to visit and a great anchorage to shelter and also to explore! (I would never buy a yacht with a carbon rig, as I would be too anxious whenever a thunderstorm rolled in. Carbon is incredibly conductive and therefore VERY attractive to lightning!!! BTW, the East Australian Current can sometimes exceed 5 knots in the right conditions - a great boon when heading South, but what a right royal pain in the arse when sailing North! The Australian Bureau of Meteorology (www.bom.gov.au) is a great resource for tracking the temperature and path of the stream. Thanks again for another great episode guys and looking forward to the next instalment! Cheers, from Mike
Wow! You found Koalas! They’re unfortunately quite rare in the wild now, as believe it or not, an STD (Chlamydia!) has all but wiped out their numbers in the wild! Quarantine populations have been established to try and protect them from extinction. (Also the fact that the Koala you filmed appeared to be eating Casuarina leaves is extraordinary. Their diet is usually solely Eucalyptus leaves. Very interesting! Another native Australian animal is facing extinction due to disease and that’s the Tasmanian devil - due to facial tumour disease. Very sad to see these two wonderful animals under critical threat of extinction...
Great video! Nice to see a well-prepared couple make it look so easy, even when conditions are on the challenging side. Do you, or have you considered carrying a sea anchor to deploy off the bow or with a bridle? Curious about your thoughts if one may have been useful to ride a favorable current while waiting out opposing winds and seas.
Hi, Than you. We do have a sea anchor/drogue. We have gone as far as laying it out on deck with the bridle etc to ensure we have every thing we need for it but we have never put it into action in anger. It is a lot of paraphernalia to hang over the side and we prefer to just avoid those conditions if we can. We find that we mainly use it hung down from the spinnaker pole with a weight when anchored in a rolly anchorage to stop Florence rolling so much. We are more practiced at just heaving to when waiting outside reef anchorages or bad weather, the nice thing is we don't have to pull any extra kit out of a locker to do this.
I have just come across you guys. I have been watching sailing la vagabonde but find it too be too 'filtered' and all of their videos are becoming very edited. Looking forward to some real sailing vids. Can't wait to get stuck into your adventures!
@@SailingYachtFlorence hope you are enjoying QLD the sunshine state :-) Thanks for the tip on the East Australian Current flowing south. Now I am thinking it may be better to purchase one closer to home in Brisbane or on the Sunshine Coast etc. Fair Winds and Following Seas :-)
Just a quicky, did you buy your boat from Woodbridge in Suffolk. I ask because the engineer who's putting a Nanni in my money pit of a Sadler reckons he did your boat too?
Yep he was a very friendly and helpful guy. He installed the engine for the previous owners and kindly came and checked it over/commissioned it for us when we bought the boat 3 years later as Florence had not been in the water since he installed it. We were so green behind the ears at the time that we don't think anyone in the yard believed we would actually sail around the world!
Yes he's a very nice guy and has been very helpful. Not sure if I should name check him on a public forum though. He did ask after you and wondered how you were doing. He seemed really pleased for you when I told him you had made it to Oz. Anyway my engine is ordered and arriving on Monday so fingers crossed wont be long till launch day. I'm getting to know Larkmans yard very well, fred will be doing a little bit of rigging and I should be good to go. All the very best to you both.
