Beasty made a video once about this kind of chamber of commerce build, you just use the free traders very conservatively, force your opponent to deal with them and go eco behind it. I used this strategy very effectively on ladder, but going into 4 TC + fast Imp too is just a crazy follow-up. I think this only worked because Szalami(Corvinus) didn't know wtf was going on.
Sending those first traders across the map was pretty big brain to help pay for all the tier 1 eco upgrades. He could then quickly boom to castle. I main French and I find that when I move onto stone in castle to get cheaper knights, that slows down my unit production so much that I often die at that point. But if I can rush Imp and use the Red Palace instead of a generic keep that’s probably a better play as the Red Palace is so much more defensive than a standard keep. Red Palace is like 5 keeps!
And I feel like, even more importantly, it diverted the attention of Corvinus from the top right corner of the map where cdf's 3rd TC was being built. Not saying that Corvinus could have denied the 3rd TC from getting up as he had no units then, but he realized so much later that his opponent was on three TCs and even more greedy than he thought cdf was.
I remember playing against you on baltic with French Chamber of Commerce against your Rus. Just having the trade up without really putting any effort in it can do so much, because at any point you can just scale ahead and force offensive play. French booming can be really sneaky.
One big mistake from Corvinus was switching to farms so early even though cdf wasn't building any knights to attack him. He could have gone out and gotten deer and berries and spent the extra wood on another town center himself or even traders.
That was like being in a time warp. Soooooo fast for everything. In some ways, too fast to actually enjoy it. I'll have to re-watch this at a slower speed.
This is relatively easily punished by a ram push, but doing so requires you to do the opposite of what the textbook consensus against French is. Scouting is key, but then again, you usually don't randomly scout all corners of the map for the off chance that your opponent goes for a mental 3tc into fast imp with 0 military.
I think Corvinus was too passive. He tried to outboom the french and although possible it would have been better to rush him specially the third tc on the gold, instead

I met this cdf guy before couple of times, his strategy falls apart if you rush him early, i am really surprised that he beat corvinus.
I got roflstomped by this strat as the english, I was also confused as fuck
