  • Paige has had a fresh start in a hostel but her daughter is being put up for adoption, while Maria has succumbed to the grip of heroin addiction, having had two children removed from her care.
With around three-quarters of mothers sleeping on the streets having had kids taken away, can they break the vicious cycle?

Most times it amazes me greatly how I moved from an average lifestyle to earning over $63k per month, Utter shock is the word. TRUE in a perfect world! But in the show it's only Paige who is wanting and working on her life to change! For the chick that cares nothing more than getting high off her next hit of heroin cares nothing more than to stay with her guy that isn't helping uplift you at all but bring yourself farther down! If you've been able to get clean and sober before than you know you can again! You're more concerned with this low life man and your heroin fix than your own children! When you finally get to the bottom of the bottom then hopefully you will be able to get yourself some help! But leaving this guy and working towards finding sobriety is worth so much more! Trust me! I've been where you are right now in life and if you want it bad enough you'll do whatever it takes to get the help you need! I pray for this help to come before the heroin and streets kill you first! God bless your broken heart and soul and I will continue to offer up many prayers to the LORD and SAVIOR above for him to come and rescue you! YOU DESERVE A LIFE OF LOVE AND HAPPINES AND PEACE AND SURROUNDED BY THE ONES YOU LOVE!

Curtis Lambert i appreciate that and i’ll take it into consideration, however i don’t agree completely. i think it’s different for homeless women, a lot of them don’t feel safe sleeping or eating at shelters, as there’s often a lot of violence there. i’m happy to give them any change i have, and also invest in shelters too so they have options

Eve For those advising not to donate cash, there are often not as many services for the homeless as people think/assume. That is part of the judgment that people do when I comes to the homeless--assume that the homeless person is a criminal or doesn't want help. Some of the shelters are dangerous, the residents rob each other, etc. Not everyone that is homeless is an addict. At least buy them food or see if they need feminine supplies if you want to help. Those items are necessary and yet very expensive. You would at least know that the funds aren't going to administrative costs/overhead.

    • @Daaaanielle
      @Daaaanielle 6 ปีที่แล้ว +21

If you can, donate socks! New socks is seen as nothing but they can be a luxury to people like them, especially new ones. And even things like the tiny soap they sell at boots and stuff would actually be helpful.
My auntie works with people in homeless situations and she said that it was way better to give them things like new underwear or sock because they are generally hard to come by new.
I always feel like fluffy socks for the winter is good to give to homeless people, and whenever I want to give them money I pop into a shop and buy a cup of tea, better than money that might be safer? than running the risk of it going to drugs.

BBC three have been very deceptive during filming. I did not like the way they were basically bribing hungry homeless people with food in exchange for filming. I did a short interview for the pre- film to see if it could get commissioned which i then retracted as I felt the independent film makers for this series were neglecting human rights to get there footage. They told me I would have to sign a waiver to release the footage which I declined to realise and Informed them clearly for you reasons for doing so. They have then gone ahead and used the footage of me without my permission. Aswell as bribing homeless People with food I also have heard of the the grape vine that it was in fact the film makers that gave maria the money to buy her drugs so that they could get footage of her using. @@papichulo5033 Exactly, I don't think people should ever give cash money to homeless people, 9 times out of 10 they won't use it as it was intended. My mom taught me that lesson when I was about 13; we saw a homeless man walking the streets, and since we were getting dinner already, she stopped by him to ask if he would like to choose something off the menu to eat. He could've chosen the most expensive thing if he really wanted to, but he was more interested in getting the actual money. After about 5 separate times telling the guy that he could either get the food or nothing, we eventually had to drive away because he admitted he was gonna buy drugs instead of food. My mom told us kids "That's why you should never give beggars cash or change, to offer them something helpful like food or water or warmth, and if they don't want that then they're not truly in need of it."
It may sound bad to some, but that was a powerful lesson taught to me. I'd much rather help someone directly than be hindering them indirectly.

Maria saying "I don't see a way out" and a BBC reporter is sitting right there... like come on, they should step in. Contact a drug counselor and rehab facility and offer Maria and the others who agreed to be filmed for the documentary the chance to get clean and get help and get their life on a new track.
Maria is obviously miserable with her addiction, she doesn' enjoy it, she's not chasing joy. She's just trying to stave off the withdrawal and 'sickness'.
Her addiction needs medical intervention and supervision to withdraw from.

I've seen an interview with a cameraman from the show "Intervention", and in order to get an unbiased, genuine story they are not supposed to interfere unless it's a dire emergency. He talked about fights, drug deals gone bad, people OD-ing, etc and how many sleepless, guilt ridden nights he had (plus consistent nightmares) long after he stopped working in the job. He also discussed the rumors regarding giving money for drugs, and confirmed he'd witnessed it a few times over the years, when no one was supposed to see it. Like every other part of life, there are good folks and bad folks, and folks that mean well but do the wrong thing. But in the end, a channel like BBC3 has to make money to keep bringing interesting stories to viewers like us...no matter how shady they have to be to capture the footage, unfortunately. 😒 I really hope they do SOMETHING for the subjects of their documentaries, whether through the channel or personally!
FYI...Maria was given help in 2012 after an interview with Mark Horvath who started an organization called Invisible People (it's here on TH-cam, I barely recognized her since she weighed a few stone more then). But breaking the cycle of drug addiction is hard without all the proper services they need after getting clean!

A person that close to the edge is a moron for having a cell phone, internet connection, eating out instead of cooking in, tattoos, alcohol and tobacco and of course any drugs should not be part of their lives. Any entertainment should be self made and free. Not buying anything that isn't absolutely necessary to survive. Until they have a healthy savings account they are being RECKLESS with their finances and deserve their financial disaster they set up for themselves.

It seems like living "in care" isn't doing these girls any good! Another big problem I see in the UK is being done with high school at age 16 and considered an adult. The human brain isn't developed until around 20, so this whole care system seems counterintuitive along with the "age of adulthood."
Seems it would be better to put these troubled girls into boarding schools if they start acting out around age 12, b/c that's typically when young girls think they can do everything themselves and rebel, but are in no way ready for the harsh realities of how hard life is and don't have the education to find a job.

Some comments shame Maria for injecting in public so I just wanted to ask: Where else do you think she should go? The point of being homeless is that she has nowhere to go. I also don't see how this causes harm, she and her boyfriend try to hide it as good as they can and as long as they don't leave their used syringes lying about, no one else is in danger. The only thing this might cause is that people are confronted with the desperate situation they are in.
When you comment about how this is what you pay with your taxes, I don't know what you mean. Maria has no shelter, you don't know if she gets any help at all and that actually causes that situation. If your taxes were used to build homes for the homeless and soup kitchens and pay social workers who really help them, you wouldn't have people sleeping and injecting on the streets.
I'm from germany and we even have safe spaces in some cities for addicts to inject, they are called "Fixräume" (fixrooms). Addicts can go there and bring their h, get clean syringes and inject in a warm, clean, safe space with medical help if something goes wrong. These are projects that really help, no one injects in public and the rates of diseaeses transmitted when people share needles have decreased.
This is how to handle a drug problem or high rates of homeless people, with help and support. Shaming them and not helping or wanting to pay them anything will only make the situation worse.

Reading the comment section on these issues really annoy me. I've come to the conclusion you just cannot please people. And they will find fault regardless. No one is saying women are more important. But men and women suffer from different issues. Separating it doesn't mean BBC3 are giving women special treatment. They are making sure that homeless men and women's issues don't get blurred, muddles together and forgotten. Women have to deal with pregnancy, rape, prostitution and Menstruation. They are just showing how they cope with these issues on the streets. While men have to deal with the burdening of toxic masculinity which makes them vulnerable because they don't get the help they need. STOP PUTTING MEN AND WOMEN AT ONE ANOTHER.

It gives people a sense of dignity and self respect being able to do something as simple as buy their own meal, or buy their own clothes. Once you actually get to the point of homelessness its damn near impossible to get going, get a job, save up a couple thousand (or more) to move into a place. I understand that being addicted to drugs makes them the only thing that matters in the world. But it's hard to find sympathy for a drug abuser who wastes £40-60 a day on drugs. And all of that is money she's begged for off of people who think they're helping her.

I took a trip down to Brighton yesterday. I walked from the station to the seafront. I passed by Maria, who looks well. She told me she’s 6 months off of the drugs. Her sister had passed away, the day before, and she was waiting to pickup keys for a house. She was grateful that I spoke with her.

I check how they look. If the person has just have poor clothes he or she might just be unlucky in life. I may give. If the person looks sick, physically down like this Maria here, I will not give. Chances are my money will be going down the drain, or my food will be thrown away.
      That might be unfair.

If your money funds the final hit, accept that the person would rather be dead. If your act of kindness makes them wake up the next morning and decide to change their life, that’s nice but not your business either.

I think Suella Braverman needs to be shown this documentary and ones like it. To know that it isn't a lifestyle choice and that penalising charities who give homeless people tents is despicable. Instead of demonising people who are in this situation, maybe look at how we could and should be helping them.
