Depends on what job you are applying for. Subject teaching (e.g. Science) in international schools does not require a CELTA or TEFL qualification or tefl teaching experience. If you want a Native English Teacher job (teaching English as subject/teaching English as a foreign language) then having a TEFL qualification along with your bachelor's degree is the minimum. I think all your teaching experience would count. If you are currently in Australia, New Zealand or Singapore you can still apply for Native English Teacher jobs under the HK Gov't NET Scheme for the upcoming academic year. Hi Mano. Non-native English teachers can find teaching positions in HK but unfortunately they will have to work harder to secure those positions. You should be well- qualified (bachelor’s degree, TEFL/TESOL certificate) and a high score on an internationally recognised English exam would be helpful. Please try to apply to some companies/programmes mentioned in the video like Chatteris and Eureka. Even if you don’t get a post, the interview process will give you more of an idea of what is required of you. Also many small academies and private schools hire non-Native English speakers but those jobs are easier to find if you’re already in Hong Kong.
