      Lol at first I was like, serial killer diy kit? And then I remembered all the crap stored in my garage (minus the mattress now) and it does look bad ha ha!
      I’m glad you like the vids :)

    you can also use egg cartons, just rip them up and then put them in a blender till they are fluff

      Oh yeah that’s very true!! I didn’t think about that! Thank you for that!

    Instead of bought pulp or toilet paper, you can soak ripped newspaper shreds in boiling water. When the water has cooled down, you can mix it all to pulp using a stick.

    I think, because its made in the US, with shipping and all, its even more expensive here in the UK, so this is much appreciated as I couldnt think what to do to give my Polystyrene base a 'natual' covering. Theres livestock in my diorama so you can imagine the ground needs to look as if horses/cattle etc have been walking on it. Thank you. Humidity is a problem with a lot of things. It takes longer for sealants etc too.
    Oh congrats...hope it went well. I subbed cos this is super helpful! I am off to eBay to look for pulp...back shortly as I have everything else. oh no...that seems difficult and expensive too...never mind I can make my own and follow along with the rest of your video. Sculptamold is between £16-£20 GB pounds for a 3 lb bag here. The dehydrated paper pulp is between 8-10 GB £s for 100g. I think both are ridiculous...see what I mean about costing more here? I am sure I can shred and chop some of those free newspaper thingies and add some cheap toilet paper to make it. For next to nothing if I dont buy toilet paper (I'm not suggesting lifting T roll out of cafe toilets either lol!). I would keep the dry mix and only add water to smaller amounts as and when I use them though.

    I just did this too, but with spackle on the expanded stuff. Stuck fine on that, but I smoothed it and sanded it down after it hardened up. I saw a video where the guy gradually builds his texture up by mixing paint and a few other things into a bit of Liquitex modeling paste, which sounded great to me since there's a Michael's right near my job and they regularly have 40-50% coupons.

      @@NotSoAverageBuilder It seems that way, yeah. I kept searching and searching, and no one was really doing a good "forest" type thing. But if you get the time, check this guy out. I'm basically trying to emulate that but hopefully I can manage to scale it up to gunpla level. th-cam.com/video/ToF1Do_HPag/w-d-xo.html

    You'd be better off mixing the plaster with the water first. If you mix all three at the same time some of the water is going to go into the paper without the plaster. Mixing the plaster and water first ensures all the plaster is hydrated which will then go into the paper forming a perfect blend.

    So, how long should you wait to paint and put the scenery on it? I made a similar mix but I used cellulose insulation ( had a bunch already) and plaster. It's very similar to the paper mache, but it isn't all white.

    • @NotSoAverageBuilder
      @NotSoAverageBuilder  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I waited around 12 hours or so, but it would depend on how much liquid you added into the mix.
      On my smaller ones I used more liquid and those took around 24 hours to dry. I would always do the fingernail test, if you press your fingernail into it the surface should not deform, if it does it still needs some time to dry

  • @kendrarhea957
    @kendrarhea957 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You can also use loose insulation is basically the same and can get in bulk... is just paper pulp... saw it in a video a while back when looking paper mache clay videos... don't remember whose video it is tho...

    7$ for a 3 pound bag. Lol. I checked yesterday on amazon (Belgium) and they had it for about 120$ for 3 pound.

      Jesus! That’s insane, I legit paid $7 for the bag I bought at a place called “Hobby Lobby” here in the states.

  • @AKKK1182
    @AKKK1182 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can just blend up egg cartons or those McDonalds cup holders that are made out of that really rough recycled pulp instead of paying 7$ for a bag of mostly air.

    Yo I appreciate the infos from the video, but I gotta ask, like dude why do your first test out video of you testing out if it shrinks and testing how it works (and how you added too much water because you lacked experience in it) as your explanation video? Shouldn't an education advice video be coming from someone who tried it at least once or twice beforehand?
    Like "ah yes, hello everyone watching, today I will teach you this and that, now hear me out, I actually don't have any ACTUAL experience or knowledge in this but I'm confident enough in it working out, so I'll teach you as I figure it out for myself"

    • @NotSoAverageBuilder

      The point of these trial videos are to show people who haven’t done it before that they too can can do it. As a way to learn along with me.
