    I love this series!!! I wish I had the patients to sew. Realized in high school I didn't, had a few projects that my Aunt had to finish so that the sewing machine could be put away. LOL. However, I am thinking of asking my future mother-in law to re-teach me how to sew so I can make some lovely outfits. Thank you for the inspiring me to want to sew. :D

    It's so funny... I love the 40's and 50's and when I started my vintage hobby, I searched for videos to do my hair... I came up with you; Now I just started with sewing lessons and searched in TH-cam, and here you are again! I really love your tutorials and you bring it so happy, but also clear for beginners... I'll keep on following you, keep up the good work :-D

    I watched your apron tutorial about a week ago because it looked nice and it was, I want to make some sort of dress at some time and decided to go look at my saved videos to find you to see if you had anything else and boom! Watched this part will have to watch the others tomorrow after work. You make things so easy when you do this and it's highly appreciated from someone who is bad with directions that should be simple. So thank you!

    Part 2??? Did I miss it? I am going to sew this dress and I am super excited about seeing someone make it so I can understand the pattern. I sewed a lot in the past, but I stopped due to illness. I also sew by hand. My Pfaff died! :( Thanks, I love the hair styles too. I had massive facial reconstruction surgery and the doctor ask 'who do I want to look like' and I told him Marilyn Monroe. I have her cheekbones, nose, chin and her teeth. I am a natural blonde with a lot of brains.

    love your taste in patterns and fabrics! This series is better than my homemaker 101 from,, well, from high school in 19 blah blah blah..;) would love to see what you have in your basic sewing kit and what you would recommend to have as a beginner vs and advanced seamstress. Just a wondering thought :) Thanks for posting these tutorials up, gives an ol' gal like myself a refresher :)

    lol, just bought this pattern because it looked so great on you at Viva. Though, I'm planning on some drastic modifications to use a border print.
    One trick with the notches is to cut the triangles outward into tabs, if your fabric isn't a firm, even weave. Some fabrics will fray right into your stitching line from the point of the inward triangles.

    • @JenniferElise
      @JenniferElise  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yay! I'm so excited...what type of border are you doing to use? That's a great tip..thanks doll! :D

    • @aought2
      @aought2 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      White lawn with a pink floral border. I originally planned to use Vogue 8789. But, I think using the skirt from pattern 8789 and the bodice from 6582 will be much more interesting!

    • @JenniferElise
      @JenniferElise  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      aought2 Ooooo...that'll look cute! :D Though I do like the neckline of 8789 (b).

    Just wanted to comment on the interfacing? I talked to my mother (has a tailoring degree) about this, she said that initally the iron on is easier but when you go to wash your item that it bunches up. She said to stick with the sew in..............something to be warned about. You don't want the garment you took so much time to make to end up crapped up from washing! Anyway talk to you later :)

    I love this series :) I also loved that dress at VLV . It turned out so beautiful . I am so impressed with your sewing abilities . I would love to be able to make myself something new like this .
    Do these vintage patterns come in bigger sizes , or do you know ? I mean like size 22 to 24 .
    Also , I just have a very basic sewing machine .... no bells or whistles . Would that be ok ? I don't have very many sewing machine skills . I got it mainly for fixing and patching my family's clothes . I do a lot of hand sewing ... quilting , and such , but I would love to try to make something .
    I'm still wanting to try the circle skirt . It looked like a good one to start with . I live in a very rural area , and the nearest fabric store is about 70 miles away , so I don't get there very often .
    But I love this series . I feel like I am learning a lot , and hopefully when I get the chance , and the material , I will be a bit more prepared . thanks to "So Sew Vintage" . Can't wait for next weeks :)

    • @JenniferElise
      @JenniferElise  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aw...thanks! My skillz (tee hee...I put a z in there) are getting better which is exciting! I believe most of them go up to a 20 and you have to grade up. There are some modern patterns that come in larger sizes but the range is a bit limited. You certainly don't need a lot of bells and whistles...I think it's easier to start simpler and then determine what it is you need in a new machine. It's a perfect one to start with and fabric.com has some great fabrics and decent prices so you don't have to make the drive. :D I'm so excited for you...can't wait to see what you make!
