    My family lives within walking distance. I've explored this area for many years growing up.

      That's awesome. Did you know all that was down there? We heard about it but didn't think very much or any of it would be left.

      @@minediver yes, we even swim there couple of times as a teen and I remember swimming out, and standing on the rim of the smokestack underwate. . There was two columns. The last time I was there, there was a shallow area on the north rim and I was walking around it and it was about 2 foot of water and realized I was on a ledge of thin soda, underwater. It was kind of spooky, and the last time I ever swam there. That was probably around 1998. Also, back then little soda lake was uninhabited.. There used to be pumice I remember throwing a 8 inch rock into little soda, and I was shocked to see it float. I walk the waterline all the way around there was two or three cars that went over the edge years ago not much to see but lots of brine flies.
      We have done lots of the same things that this channel dose everything from mineshafts to lost native American, drawings.

    Everyone throws their junk in there, tvs fridges etc. I was raised in Fallon. Best part of soda lake was 4 wheelin on the edge of the pit

      We didn't see that, probably because of the plant overgrowth. The mill site is a little deeper. You're talking the path at waters edge, right?

    Incredible video! Thanks for the tour. Quick question for you. Are the closed and open shafts part of the volcanic system?

    • @minediver
      @minediver  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! No, the shafts were part of the mine. The lake was much lower at that time. Thank you for the comment, and thanks for watching!

    I live in Fallon right near Soda Lake. We were always told that the miners dug into the aquifer causing the area to fill with water and that Soda Lake basicallyhas no end to its depth. Is this true?

    • @minediver
      @minediver  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Partially true. The lake used to be much smaller and to the north. The bottom drops off to its deepest in the northern half. They dug the shafts and had leach fields in front to dry out the soda. The U.S. government deverted water for farming, which caused the water table to rise flooding the mine. The mine sued the government but lost. As for the volcano itself, it expanded, blew, and collapsed on itself. So last measured was about 240 feet at its deepest. UNR has some great studies on the lake. But the one I like is: the volcanic caves all connect; Tahoe, Pyramid and Soda so Tessi can move around, lol.

    Can you still dive it?

    • @minediver
      @minediver  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, absolutely. Bring fresh water to soak your gear immediately after. There is a lot of soda in the water, and it makes everything slick.
