another fun explore ....those manways are common for cut and fill ..... they build them up as the advance the stope and dump the waste rock around them so they are only removing ore ..... the floor was sinking because it was all cut and fill that was settling from the water exposure ...beautiful silicates of Copper.....keep'em coming and you two be safe out there

Hey, T&J! I remember my Dad drinking Burgermeister in the 50’s. They called them Burgies. Lotsa timber in that mine. I love the workmanship. That sunken floor, wow! Thanks for doing all the work so we have these great vids to watch. Take care and be safe..

Hello Julie and Tom. I looked up Burgermeister Bear, looks like is was made between 1956 to 1971 by 3 or 4 different owners. According to Google. Since that was opened by a can opener my bet is it's an order one. Pop Tops according to Google started in 1962. So that can might be about 65-70 years old. That road you drove in on seemed pretty thin, I bet those outside tires were pretty close to the edge. Nice mine with interesting minerals. Great video. Take care.

That little road turned into a donkey trail, wow! Crazy workings you both explored, looks like the mining really weakened everything. Seems like the really low area after the stol hopping section was backfill / waste rock / ground fall. The way things settled down away from the back, I was hoping you weren't on a false floor. Hello Tom Hello Julie I love coppermines they are very colourfull and the blue coppersulfat looks amazing. On your way to the mine the noises that come from the floor of your Jeep noone will hear that bangig and Scratching . Your Pool jeep got very hard use. Dont overdo it . Is it possible thar the mine was closed and reopened again . Some timbers looked as they were much younger than the Rest. Is it possible that this not banged up " shutes " were VentilationTunnels from the lower Tunnels. Question over questions. Thank you for this amazing Video And all your effords to Do this Video. Hello Frank, the little Jeep is still going strong. The tires are getting pretty chewed up. These old mines have probably been operating in a few different time periods. Awesome copper mine, the trail getting there looked spooky narrow! Thought I was in the Jeep with you watching the rocks and brush, some of those timbers very cautious! I think they had done a lot of major work in this mine, idea what time period this was? 30s/40s? I’ll bet the burgermeister owned the mine, he didn’t even take his trash out! You are correct that there was a lot of work done in this area. There is a huge complex of workings in this area from strip mines to deep vertical shafts and traditional drifts. I believe it was worked from the teens through the 40's. That road was pretty narrow and we almost slid off it on the way down. Thanks for the comment, Ron!

Hi Tom & Julie, wow that road in was way too scary, I don't know how you guys do it. That piece of blue copper mineral that Julie held looked so beautiful out in the sunshine. We have a copper mine here in Cornwall that is literally called The Blue Mine, there is a nice video on TH-cam if you're interested. I am still trying to work out what would make a drift sink like that, could it be an earthquake that pancaked both the drift you were on and the haulage below ??. A very pretty mine with the blue just about everywhere you look, I wonder if that tag you found meant something. Thank you for sharing, much love to you both. xx ❤

You just gotta love a classic copper mine. The colors always amaze me. I'm in partners with a guy south of me and we have a copper mine. Eighty-five feet incline and hit a cross cut vein, solid blue. A few years back we pulled a shoe box full of blue druisy out. Pure copper silicate. Blue quartz like. We got $35,000 for that little box. Was good and bad. Good for the money, bad cause we haven't seen anymore since. I do remember dropping a few pieces while chipping them out but the bottom is like 8" deep in cactus. Little high graders. Thought about diesel and a torch. No timbers. POOF!! Get rid of them varmints! Haha🙂Great explore! Thanks again. Been a while since i've seen that brand of beer.
We always enjoy exploring copper mines. Wow, I didn't know that could be so valuable for a small box of copper silicate. I wonder if there was a bucket hanging on that nail at the high grade sign just for that. Thanks for the great comment and information, Richard! 👍
I really like this mine! There's a bit of everything. Nice colors as well. It's a shame so much isn't accessible. It looks like it was a good size mine. I absolutely love exploring new areas. I found copper workings in reno near peavine mountain. The portal was well hidden, i accidentally stumbled across it. The shaft is only 20 or so feet, but the working face is heavily mineralized. I collected some juicy looking samples, but haven't crushed them yet... the history of this mining district says that gold and silver were recovered as secondary metals.
Many times mineral veins have multiple metals present. Gold, silver, copper, lead, tungsten, zinc are all common to see in different combinations. The one that surprised me was that some talc deposits have gold in them. Thanks for the comment, and happy prospecting!👌💰

Everytime I see timbering or stalls, cribbing etc I get reminded of my early days as a rookie greenhand and helping do timber sets I was using wedges to 'firm' up the set and remember my teacher saying just 'tap-it' not to tight! The art of cribbing and timbering is highly underrated. 🎉
There is no doubt of the skill and craftsmanship of the miners who set the timbers in these old mines. I especially like when the unmilled natural timbers were used. That must have been another level of skill. Thanks for the comment!👍😄

Very interesting video. You always think about the roof falling in on you but you never think about the floor dropping. That was really different to see the floor had dropped that far. And what is a strong box? I do not know where you get the courage to walk across some of those sketchy looking beams. You guys are crazy LOL. You guys be safe out there love the video.
When the lower workings are unstable it can affect the drift above it which might be what happened here. This whole mine is pretty unstable. We see those strong boxes often in the old mines. They might have been used for primers or smaller amounts of dynamite before it got used. It probably looked worse than it was walking on those timbers. Great exploration; thanks for posting. The only time I broke out in a sweat was when both of you were standing on a board crossing a drop off at the same time, and not moving. Dead weight on old boards with nothing under them is a bad combination - lol. I used to always carry a red laser (to see the bottom or distant wall) and a green laser because you can see the entire beam. I also had a $19 UV flashlight from Harbor Freight. My old 2 Frequency UV light is too bulky and unreliable now so you may miss some minerals with the cheap one.
Great explore with nice colors. Copper mines are always more interesting, although some gold and silver mines have good mineralization. Thinking about the stressed timbers, particularly where that can was pinned behind a support suggests the ribs are moving in rather than the back coming down. Just a thought, probably wrong?

The Jeep does pretty good. It's a mostly stock 4 banger minus the track bars and sway bar. Tires are shredded from the sharp rocks where we always seem to end up. Thanks again!
We had a heavy rain come through and closed up the Manzanita mine. I been digging it out. Probably will take several months and beers to get it cleaned up.
It was only 1 inch in about an hour on 2 consecutive days. 2 inches total. The ground being so dry, could not absorb it all so it became a mud flow. I started digging out the mine after the first rain to find my work filled back in the next day. Bummer.
What a hole! it goes every where, everywhere. I have to say Tom and Julie, that I would be very nervous under those broken beams and collapsed ceilings.
The road coming in was definitely pretty sketchy, but worth the risk. Beautiful colours in this one, copper mines are always nice to explore. Unfortunately this mine won’t be around to much longer so thank you for sharing it with us. Take care guys and stay safe.

Good explore.. Burgermiester or "Burgie" as it was called for short was a low price beer along with Lucky Lager, Brew 102 and others. Eventually all three disappeared from stores. I sampled it but Bud was much better.

This is one of the adventures with a lot to see. I loved all that mineralization, oxidized copper blue-green. The timbers and stulls looked cool, and hand sawn lumber! That backfilled area, the end of the main was interesting to ponder why do that to your own mine? I thought it might be later miners (probably obvious?)? And thinking how the timbers sank all that backfill probably weigh it down, without a clear idea what was weighed down? The cut out floor, with raised rail (that manual, push switch) might have been built in a withat would sink it with all that backfill? I overthink all the time, it's a habit 😇 I'm guessing you've looked up the "Burgemeister" can? That was 😎! Thanks for the great video! 👍🏻

Great mine! Is it possible there was an uplift that raised the back of the mine causing the supports to appear as if they sank? Right after the sunken supports the floor seemed to rise and there was a stole about 3 feet above the floor. It , as you said Tom, is hard to believe that that section sunk.If you guys drift over near me I will buy the Burgermeister! Cheers!!!

Oh yes, there is a fair amount of old dynamite left in the mines. I'm not sure how viable it is after sitting around all these years. One of the most recent mines we were in had about 25 sticks left in a box.

Burgermeister Beer can worth about $15 some old Beer cans are worth a lot more. I sold one (Lion Ale) for $375. It had an ad on the side that explained how to open the can with this new tool called a can opener. The inside was Galvanized ad look very good.

We've been doing this for quite a while and try to be as careful as possible. If we think the mine is too dangerous, we will use rope and harnesses or not go in at all. Generally, if you see blue or green colors in the mineral vein, that would indicate that there is copper. Thanks for the comment!👍😁

Burgermeister(s) were post prohibition lager beers that did not get sold nationally to compete with the ones that did. died out in the 60/70's. I remember the name but not so much of seeing the actual product.

I love coppermines they are very colourfull and the blue coppersulfat looks amazing.
On your way to the mine the noises that come from the floor of your Jeep noone will hear that bangig and Scratching .
Your Pool jeep got very hard use.
Dont overdo it .
Is it possible thar the mine was closed and reopened again .
Some timbers looked as they were much younger than the Rest.
Is it possible that this not banged up
" shutes " were VentilationTunnels from the lower Tunnels.

Hello Frank, the little Jeep is still going strong. The tires are getting pretty chewed up. These old mines have probably been operating in a few different time periods. Yes, some of those chutes were possibly manways or air shafts. We're glad that you enjoyed the video and hope you have a great weekend, too! 👌👍
Awesome copper mine, the trail getting there looked spooky narrow! Thought I was in the Jeep with you watching the rocks and brush, some of those timbers very cautious! I think they had done a lot of major work in this mine, idea what time period this was? 30s/40s? I’ll bet the burgermeister owned the mine, he didn’t even take his trash out! You are correct that there was a lot of work done in this area. There is a huge complex of workings in this area from strip mines to deep vertical shafts and traditional drifts. I believe it was worked from the teens through the 40's. That road was pretty narrow and we almost slid off it on the way down. Thanks for the comment, Ron!

Hi Tom & Julie, wow that road in was way too scary, I don't know how you guys do it. That piece of blue copper mineral that Julie held looked so beautiful out in the sunshine. We have a copper mine here in Cornwall that is literally called The Blue Mine, there is a nice video on TH-cam if you're interested.
I am still trying to work out what would make a drift sink like that, could it be an earthquake that pancaked both the drift you were on and the haulage below ??.

You just gotta love a classic copper mine. The colors always amaze me. I'm in partners with a guy south of me and we have a copper mine. Eighty-five feet incline and hit a cross cut vein, solid blue. A few years back we pulled a shoe box full of blue druisy out. Pure copper silicate. Blue quartz like. We got $35,000 for that little box. Was good and bad. Good for the money, bad cause we haven't seen anymore since. I do remember dropping a few pieces while chipping them out but the bottom is like 8" deep in cactus. Little high graders. Thought about diesel and a torch. No timbers. POOF!! Get rid of them varmints! Haha🙂Great explore! Thanks again. Been a while since i've seen that brand of beer.
We always enjoy exploring copper mines. Wow, I didn't know that could be so valuable for a small box of copper silicate. I wonder if there was a bucket hanging on that nail at the high grade sign just for that. Thanks for the great comment and information, Richard! 👍

I really like this mine! There's a bit of everything. Nice colors as well. It's a shame so much isn't accessible. It looks like it was a good size mine. I absolutely love exploring new areas. I found copper workings in reno near peavine mountain. The portal was well hidden, i accidentally stumbled across it. The shaft is only 20 or so feet, but the working face is heavily mineralized. I collected some juicy looking samples, but haven't crushed them yet... the history of this mining district says that gold and silver were recovered as secondary metals.
Many times mineral veins have multiple metals present. Gold, silver, copper, lead, tungsten, zinc are all common to see in different combinations. The one that surprised me was that some talc deposits have gold in them. Thanks for the comment, and happy prospecting!👌💰

Everytime I see timbering or stalls, cribbing etc I get reminded of my early days as a rookie greenhand and helping do timber sets I was using wedges to 'firm' up the set and remember my teacher saying just 'tap-it' not to tight! The art of cribbing and timbering is highly underrated. 🎉
There is no doubt of the skill and craftsmanship of the miners who set the timbers in these old mines. I especially like when the unmilled natural timbers were used. That must have been another level of skill. Thanks for the comment!👍😄

Very interesting video. You always think about the roof falling in on you but you never think about the floor dropping. That was really different to see the floor had dropped that far. And what is a strong box? I do not know where you get the courage to walk across some of those sketchy looking beams. You guys are crazy LOL. You guys be safe out there love the video.
When the lower workings are unstable it can affect the drift above it which might be what happened here. This whole mine is pretty unstable. We see those strong boxes often in the old mines. They might have been used for primers or smaller amounts of dynamite before it got used. It probably looked worse than it was walking on those timbers. Great exploration; thanks for posting. The only time I broke out in a sweat was when both of you were standing on a board crossing a drop off at the same time, and not moving. Dead weight on old boards with nothing under them is a bad combination - lol. I used to always carry a red laser (to see the bottom or distant wall) and a green laser because you can see the entire beam. I also had a $19 UV flashlight from Harbor Freight. My old 2 Frequency UV light is too bulky and unreliable now so you may miss some minerals with the cheap one.

Great explore with nice colors. Copper mines are always more interesting, although some gold and silver mines have good mineralization. Thinking about the stressed timbers, particularly where that can was pinned behind a support suggests the ribs are moving in rather than the back coming down. Just a thought, probably wrong?

I also like the fact that you have a stocked jeep with stocked tires and able to go anywhere!
The Jeep does pretty good. It's a mostly stock 4 banger minus the track bars and sway bar. Tires are shredded from the sharp rocks where we always seem to end up. Thanks again!
Looking at the timbers, they look fairly fresh. Not aged, rotted or darkened. That mine must be the perfect environment for wood presentation.

We had a heavy rain come through and closed up the Manzanita mine. I been digging it out. Probably will take several months and beers to get it cleaned up.
Oh boy, too bad. That must have been one heck of a storm system.
It was only 1 inch in about an hour on 2 consecutive days. 2 inches total. The ground being so dry, could not absorb it all so it became a mud flow. I started digging out the mine after the first rain to find my work filled back in the next day. Bummer.

Good explore.. Burgermiester or "Burgie" as it was called for short was a low price beer along with Lucky Lager, Brew 102 and others. Eventually all three disappeared from stores. I sampled it but Bud was much better.

This is one of the adventures with a lot to see. I loved all that mineralization, oxidized copper blue-green. The timbers and stulls looked cool, and hand sawn lumber!
That backfilled area, the end of the main was interesting to ponder why do that to your own mine? I thought it might be later miners (probably obvious?)? And thinking how the timbers sank all that backfill probably weigh it down, without a clear idea what was weighed down? The cut out floor, with raised rail (that manual, push switch) might have been built in a withat would sink it with all that backfill?
I overthink all the time, it's a habit 😇

Great mine! Is it possible there was an uplift that raised the back of the mine causing the supports to appear as if they sank? Right after the sunken supports the floor seemed to rise and there was a stole about 3 feet above the floor. It , as you said Tom, is hard to believe that that section sunk.If you guys drift over near me I will buy the Burgermeister! Cheers!!!

Oh yes, there is a fair amount of old dynamite left in the mines. I'm not sure how viable it is after sitting around all these years. One of the most recent mines we were in had about 25 sticks left in a box.

Burgermeister Beer can worth about $15 some old Beer cans are worth a lot more. I sold one (Lion Ale) for $375. It had an ad on the side that explained how to open the can with this new tool called a can opener. The inside was Galvanized ad look very good.

Hi Stephanie. Most of the colorful minerals in this area are related to copper. I'm not a geologist, so I am not going to tell you your Malachite and Chalcopyrite from your Azurite and Chrysocolla. They're all in there somewhere. Thanks for the comment!👍😊

The markings X2, X3, etc denotes cross cut drifts. Xcut #2, xcut #3, etc.

We've been doing this for quite a while and try to be as careful as possible. If we think the mine is too dangerous, we will use rope and harnesses or not go in at all.
Generally, if you see blue or green colors in the mineral vein, that would indicate that there is copper. Thanks for the comment!👍😁

If you've seen burger meister it was year ago it got bought out in around 1961

Burgermeister(s) were post prohibition lager beers that did not get sold nationally to compete with the ones that did. died out in the 60/70's. I remember the name but not so much of seeing the actual product.
