    My compliments for this video. I think it’s baffling that professional reviewers didn’t even pick up on this problem. I returned two Switch Oleds which had this issue, combined with terrible uniformity. The left side of both screens got incredibly green, while the right side looked pretty normal. To me, that really was a step back from my Switch V1. Luckily my third Switch Oled at least has reasonably good uniformity, which makes the green less annoying. I’d advise everyone who has this issue + bad uniformity to return their Switch Oled. It would be good if Nintendo actually felt that consumers won’t accept this.

      Sorry but do you know if the green tint is something that can get worse overtime? I'm assuming it stays the same but I still gotta ask

    • @jaspelino1963
      @jaspelino1963 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ItsJei I’m not sure. I read a lot about it last week, and some sources say green pixels are more prone to decay, which would mean that the issue might become less pronounced after intensive use. What that will mean for the overall picture quality, I don’t know. It might help if Nintendo pushes an update that changes the way the brightness slider works. The screen seems to be calibrated in steps op 10%, while the brightness slider works in steps of 5%.

    Glad I ran across this video, long story short for everyone to read this. I sent my first brand new Switch OLED back because it had the green tint to it I noticed a lot on minecraft and darker colors playing it in a dark environment. So I returned the first Switch OLED back to gamestop and got another brand new one. Well the same exact green tint issue exists with the second brand new one, at that point I contacted Nintendo and sent them my Switch OLED. They sent it back with a letter that stated it's been tested and everything works perfectly on it they couldn't find any issues with the screen. I guess they all have this issue I still enjoy playing it really wish for that kind of money that it wouldn't have that issue but videos like this really help, now the green tint isn't as present. Great video!

    I just tried this method with my OLED smartphone; it did the same exact thing. It alternated between a greenish hue and then back to a reddish hue as I adjusted the brightness. I think this issue is different from what some other users are experiencing. Those folks have shown their Switch OLED screens have a gradient-like green-hued spot center-left or center-right on the panel when displaying solid grey. It seems like it may be related to the voltage issue but to an uneven extreme degree. Others generally have a more subtle uniformed hue like the one you showed.

    I’m glad I watched your video because I also noticed you have a vertical band of pixels on the left edge of the screen that is slightly dimmer than the rest of the display when showing darker grays and mid tones. I didn’t know if this was a defect of my Switch or just part of the display. It’s so slight it’s almost impossible to see unless you’re looking for it.

    OLEDs are great! It is definitely an upgrade from the v1 or v2, but this model needs a revision of its OLED panels. The screen is an integral part of the switch, yet nintendo abysmally fucked it up; like the joycon drift issue. I want an OLED model but I can't risk buying a bad one.

    My OLED Switch has a pretty hard step from green to normal tint around 50% with Automatic Brightness OFF. With this ON it's a lot better, but there's still a green bump between 60% and 100% when I play indoors at home (between 0% and 30% it's very messy, but you never get there anyway). I found it annoying enough in games. Let's not talk about the even more annoying near black dithering (green speckled grain in darks grays) in games like Inside and Observer. My question to you Amok4All is... did the green tint stabilize a little over the last couple of weeks? My brother was more lucky with a great uniform and almost green tintless unit and said it got better after a week. I guess I'm lucky for having a as good as uniform unit though (little green on the left if you look real close in the dark). Hope to hear from you. I'm on the verge of returning the unit.

    • @Doppo69
      @Doppo69 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If can see it in games definitely return it! I have it like the videos slight green tint on left hand side of screen and not noticeable in games but wonder if to return and wait about 6 months for a better batch or screens to start hitting the shelves

    • @FerranoM
      @FerranoM 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Doppo69 I've returned it and get a new one in a couple of days. At first it didn't seem to be a big problem in games... but later, under the right lightning conditions, I've manage to bump against some nasty green tint fluctuations in the form of a hard flicker effect. Also I managed to spot a little more green on the left side in one game (Inside). What I've learned is that if you're 10% gray is fine (with a little margin of error of course) and the 5% gray peformances the same (and you're unit is uniform), then you're good to go. If the 5% gray differs to much from the 10% in terms of how the tint fluctuations behave... then return it!
      In my case they're replacing it under a DOA (Dead on Arrival). But yeah... I thought about what you said as the next step... getting (demanding) my money back if the next unit is also faulty and wait for like a half year and try again.

    • @FerranoM
      @FerranoM 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @pangiospp Good to hear from you! I had the privilege to test 4 Oled models at my local game store, including my own. They all share the same flaws. Hard step to green tint below 50% with Auto Brightness OFF, terrible dithering grain in dark grays… and uniformity problems with the green tint more leaning to the left, even in the lighter grays. There were some margin of error differences: one model more greenish to the left, the other model worse with the hard step to green below 50%, etc. In the end… the first model (my own model) was still the best, but they’re basically the same. So I decided to keep the one I have, put Auto Brightness ON at the value I like the most (both in brightness and in hue), just accept how bad the dithering in dark grays is and just play! As long as your model doesn’t have a mint green tint in the whites and the greener tint on the left isn’t (that) noticeable during gameplay… than keep what you have and just enjoy it for what it is: a flawed Oled panel with deep blacks and great contrast!
      Would I have kept my V2 Switch if I knew beforehand how mediocre the screen implementation of the Oled model was? Properly, yes!

    • @FerranoM
      @FerranoM 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @pangiospp Then don't expect it to be better then another Oled model. Keep this one if you like the deep blacks and contrast. Despite it's flaws, I wouldn't want to go back to the V2 model. The contrast is very flat, blacks are grey and there's less shadow detail. Don't forget the bigger screen and overall better build quality of the Oled model. It has a metal frame, great metal kickstand, now all metal rail parts and grip texture at the back. Also, the joy-con buttons feel slighty more sturdier. The V2 model is more squeaky and the full plastic back looks used faster. The grey screen (when it's turned off) with the ugly thick black bezels also are a massive step back. Overall the V2 model is going to feel as a downgrade if you've experienced the strenghts of the Oled model. And don't forget the near instant response times on the Oled screen versus the blurry LCD screen when things are in motion (which is like all the time). Oh, and battery life is also noticeable better on the Oled model. Hopefully I didn't make it harder for you. In the end it's your choice... what annoys you the most and what doesn't. Good luck making the choice! 😉

Specially when you open the game Doki Doki Literature Club and the game shows the blue logo and the black background, there's some subtle flickering on the right/left sides of the screen. Turn auto brightness on and max it out or put it and 50% and there's a chance you will see what I'm seeing. I currently have two Switch OLEDS that are suffering from this :/

    Does this green tint still happen when you have standard instead of vivid mode? Reason I ask this because it seems that the colour gamut graph in the other video showed that the green is higher relative to the other colors with vivid on. If so, it can be avoided without vivid mode and also there’s a chance Nintendo can better colour grade and release a firmware update? I could be wrong.
