The female voice was Anette Olzon, who was in Nightwish at the time

No, it was Aleah Stanbridge, who, in 2012, was still alive and who is also featured in the video.

Swallow the Sun are definitely a matter of the heart and a central part of my life, so thanks for the reaction!🖤✨️🥀 If you liked the gutturals, you should definitely check out their song "This House Has No Home", as this one is a prime example for what Mikko can evoke with his voice. But to be honest, the whole "Moonflowers" album is one of the most magical experiences in metal history, songs like "Enemy", "Moonflowers Bloom in Misery", "The Void", "All Hallows' Grieve" or "The Fight of Your Life" are profound masterpieces that are essential to listen to. Maybe you will also find emotional access to Swallow the Sun if you just get to hear the background story of Juha Raivio, the guitarist and mastermind of the band - all the songs on the "Moonflowers" album are about his endless grief after losing his partner and soulmate Aleah Stanbridge who passed away in 2016. There's even a project both of them brought into the world together: Trees of Eternity. If one knows about the infinite sorrow surrounding the music, it's getting to an entirely new level. As for me, Swallow the Sun are always tearing my heart apart and healing me in the most gentle way - at the same time.🖤✨️🥀

That album itself is incredible. It came out when my granny was dying. It really helped me to mourn because I had never lost someone before back then. One of my all time favorite albums.

Hail Swallow the sun! Hail Anette Olzon! Rip Aleah Starbridge....you shine forever!
The 2nd transition to Anette's part is so beautiful it hurts.

Swallow the Sun is a death-doom band. You'll often get what is known as beauty and the beast vocals in this genre. I love the clean singing from the male vocals and then when they suddenly switch to the beast mode. Swallow the Sun has been a favorite band of mine for a long time.

Actually I think you have to dive deeper into this Swallo The Sun experience. Definitely recommending the whole Moonflowers album, what a trip. Century Media published the album on TH-cam in full length with a fully animated video. In this combination it's even better. I'm listening to metal for almost 50 years, but hell yeah, this is definitely one of the best albums I've ever heard in my life. By the way, like your reactions.

Everybody is talking about the stuff from Swallow the Sun from 2012 onwards, but nobody's giving attention to their first three albums from 2003-2007. They are nearly perfect and heavier than their later stuff

They're a very versatile band with anything ranging from clean acoustic to death and crushing doom. Juha Raivio is the mastermind behind this and also Trees of eternity and Hallatar.. There's a sad story behind it all, google Aleah Stanbridge if you want to go to the deep end.. Hard to recommend any song but I'd say try Emerald forest and the blackbird..

Swallow the Sun is excellent. May as well also check out Trees of Eternity (guitarist Juha Raivo of Swallow the Sun), then the album No Stars Upon the Bridge by Hallatar finishing up with Swallow the Sun’s When a Shadow is Forced into the Light.

excellent band. Last gig I saw them was at the Tuska Metal festival in Helsinki in July. I spent the whole gig bobbin my head eyes closed in the almost front row.
They have a lot of Opeth vibes and then some of those good things from black metal mixed into their doom.

Their clean sound reminded me of a prog band I listen to called Pure Reason Revolution. I was vibing to the song, and that guttrral just crushed me 😆 was an interesting choice, tho I can see why it was recommended now. PRR has the clean vibe with lots of 3 pt harmony so different as well, idk just 1st thing I thought of. Good reaction Cosmic, TY ❤ & ✌️ all

They all look like they'ed rather punch your lights out than sing a melody. Really liked it, had doubts at first, thought it was going to sound like Auri, but reminds me of Forest of Shadows.

Go for Woven Into Sorrow th-cam.com/video/XKq4iECc8EA/w-d-xo.html
This is 2021 material. It is somber and tragic as usual. Mikko has developed his clean singing a lot. Originally he was a pure black metal vocalist so his progression as a frontman has been interesting to follow over the years. The genre itself kind of demands fragile sounding cleans and gutturals from the pit of hell.

I found that quite beautiful with a sinister edge which I love, I don't watch every reaction simply because like this one I now need to listen to more and I don't have time to listen to the couple of thousand albumss I already have, but guess what I will be picking up both of the albums with Kai on drums to see if I really like them, I have listened to the 2 Albums with Kai and I think I have nailed their sound, it is Auri meets Nightwish and Cradle of Filth, The drumming is not easy as it has to be so precise but it is at a very unusual time signature, proves Kai is a master drummer. Big Love

If you liked this band and this kind of music (Doom metal)... please react to Draconian "The Sethian" or "Sorrow of Sophia". They're a great band from Sweden, and they do this "beauty and beast" vocals very often. 🤟🏻
