I am absolutely obsessed. I am one of the laziest people on the planet, only play World of Warcraft and work in IT so I live a very sedentary lifestyle. I actually look forward to doing my 45 mins of Supernatural every single day. I originally had it set to 5 days per week for my goal and ended up WANTING to do it every single day.

Its been a couple of years for me now. I love it. Ive lost 50lbs since. That was lost mostly through dieting, but getting in shape qas a bonus. I also us synthriders, moonrider, beatsaber and fitxr boxing to keep things fresh. For non vr strength training I do so wall pilates and resistance bands. I never could exercise before in a meaningful way, and any attempt was miserable. VR changed all that.

This is the only exercise I've ever done that I look forward to, and I feel that the coaching is valuable. I paid for the subscription early on, well before the end of my trial. I can feel the depth of the workouts in my muscles.

An oldster in 2023, and while it could definitely add in some things and update some options... I need that professional, licensed music, and figure that's what I'm really paying for. Though mostly rock-- and that would be my personal cardio playlists-- I can do cardio to lots of genres and it is very cool to have symphonic, dubstep, and even pop music from artists I generally wouldn't ever hear. I also like the coaches and their positive upbeat chatter, though I know some don't and I guess you can turn it off. But yeah...

We bought an Oculus as our family Christmas present in 2021. I downloaded Supernatural and quickly became addicted to it. My goal this year, as a very busy mom and independent business owner, was to just "show up" i.e. give more time to working out and not just working. I've been having physical issues due to stress and weight, and I really need to get myself in a better place. We have Beat Saber too, but Supernatural has way more music and a larger variety of movements. They're also working on expanding from the arm targets and triangles to knee targets. They shared a sneak peek video in the FB community. I'm extremely happy with it. I find myself squeezing in workouts whenever I can. I was hesitant at first when it came to the coaches. I thought they would just be noise, but I find their reminders throughout the exercise to be really spot on and I even enjoy when they get a little goofy (check out the Valentine's Day workouts). BTW, great job on your first video.

I'm only on week 1 but I'm hooked! I absolutely hate excercise. Love activity and games, but the word aerobics or yoga or treadmill was instant dread. I am 53 and have a physical job and struggled making it through the day. I am hopeful that this will get me where I want to go. And it's fun, did I say it was fun!!!

For transparency Beatsaber has the free music-mapping AI engine Beat Sage for custom songs/levels and infinite replayability. These levels are not designed or voiced by fitness coaches, but are challenging and come in different flavors--free single saber, 90 deg, standard 0 deg, no arrows, and $25/month patreon for 360 deg levels. All levels go from Novice to Expert+, and there's mirror mode in native Beat Saber. I expend the full quest 2 battery and the extended battery without getting bored, burning 1200 calories when setting my weight 125 lb and height to 5.7ft every session thanks to Beat Sage levels.

One thing you forgot to mention is the meditations. I love the workouts but I do a meditation after each one. Sometimes with a coach or just music and stare at the different environments. One big thing in treating anxiety is just to notice the world around you and be in the moment. Each environment is so beautiful with little particle effects like dust, snow, volcanic ash, swirling water and others.
You are also completely alone and the colors are so vibrant. Compare the environments to google street view you and will see that they hyped the environments up to 100% and removed all excess that would be distracting. You can stare at glaciers, ancient ruins, lakes, deserts etc. They are the most beautiful places you can imagine. Turn a fan on to get an even more immersive experience.

I think another big diff is that the workout doesn’t keep track of “streaks” and if you miss a bunch in a row, that’s totally fine. In beat saber and similar games, it’s about streaks, and will pull up game over real fast if you miss a bunch! Totally diff motives. It really does make a big diff on enjoyment as a workout!

I got beat saber for active game play but I found that I was doing more wrist bends/flicks and that was not good for my carpal tunnel. I also found my eyes were getting extremely tired playing beatsaber- no matter how I adjusted the graphics. SN is calming, encouraging and designed with more full body movement required to hit the balloons with force of your entire arms in swing. I also love the playlists. Beatsaber playlists are a lot of EDM and it's not for everyone. I'm subscribing to SN after my trial is over!!

My son likes Beat Saber and I recently got him to do Supernatural with me so we can track scores and compete a little, but I see him treating it like Beat Saber so it isn't really going to have the same fitness impact it would if it was being used as intended. I think an important difference is that Beat Saber is more about accuracy and speed, but Supernatural SHOULD be approached keeping form in mind. It's meant to be for a workout, if you focus on speed too much then you are just flicking your wrists, but if you try to keep in mind it's about moving your body correctly and working your muscles then it's a very different thing, it's important to hit hard and follow through, to pay attention to how you position your feet and legs and how deep you lunge. I kind of wish they would score it differently so it rewarded correct form instead of focusing so much on speed.
I am not at all into exercise, but I am having so much fun with this. One really nice thing is that I will pick a few routines and when I'm done it feels like it's only been a few minutes when it's been nearly an hour. The focus on hitting targets and keeping your body lined up right and listening to the coaches while enjoying the music really takes your mind off of how long you've been doing it. I usually do a Flow, a Boxing, then either a stretch or a meditation every day and I'm excited to get on it as soon as I get home from taking my boys to school. I also really enjoy how encouraging the coaches are, you can tell they really give a crap about what they are doing and are having fun.

  • @Leisurous
    @Leisurous 2 ปีที่แล้ว

supernatural is definetly a better workout. In beat saber you just use your wrist for highlevel play because the less moving you do ther faster you can hit notes and the easier it is but with supernatural the goal is to litterally tucker your self out and get the workout in. Super natural shines in its boxing mode though which really does seperate itself from beat saber

  • @ChristopherEvansCurMudGeoN

The thing is, you can treat Beat Saber in exactly the same way, I have exercise targets set up and use those to be active, no need for a sub.

Completely different range of motion from one app to the other. Supernatural is designed to target specific muscle groups. BS is not. You can definitely benefit from BS, however it's a game at the end of the day and Supernatural is not.

Nice overview, thanks Jacked In. A shame it's only available in North America. I'd love to get in shape with this thing, but alas - those of us in Europe have no chance. (well unless we jump through hoops with VPN, american credit cards etc)

Actually, I DO jog and/or power walk several times a week. I've done this for years now, but I honestly don't care for the cold, and it's cold where I am. And it would be nice to do something different. The supernatural looks fun. I might give it a go. Thank you for sharing this info.

Dude! Use a soft towel or something. Paper towels contains sand and will scratch the lenses if used over and over.

I was very skeptical the occulus would do anything for me but after my failed attempts at trying to get my husband to return it (but then his Christmas gift LOL), I figured since the occulus wasn't going anywhere, I might as well give Supernatural a try. So far, I actually look forward to making time in my day to do it. Coaches are so "smiley" it kinda rubs off after a while. I wonder if they will have actual live stream classes in the future. If i don't have to drag my ass to a gym, I just might do it.

Great first video! I'm highly considering buying the quest 2 and this game. I have a torn meniscus which makes continuous running difficult and the bike at the gym gets repetitive. I really want to get into VR gaming and this game looks very fun, interesting and looks like it will get my blood pumping as well.

I think the music on Supernatural is much better than Beat Saber unless you know how to add custom songs to Beat Saber - but it takes time to hunt down custom songs, and they often come with poor routines with only one difficulty level. For the sake of time and consistently good workout songs, Supernatural is worth the money.

I’m like a week into doing this consistently and I love it. I did the best saber demo and hated it so I never paid for it lol but I will gladly pay for supernatural- it’s worth the entire cost of the damn headset tbh.

I hated exercising and was never motivated to stay with anything for any decent period of time. Supernatural is awesome. I'm literally looking for opportunities to jump on. 30 minutes between work calls ...let me get on supernatural and knock out a workout. It's fun, the coaches are motivating and funny, the scenery is amazing and the music is really great. Totally worth the $20/month.

I personally play Beat Saber daily and I choose certain songs prior to each "play" so it for sure can work for losing weight. The downside to Supernatural is the free trial being apparently difficult to cancel, and being automatically charged for the next month. I just move MORE in Beat Saber! So yeah, at the end of the day - both are great for losing weight just depends on if you want to go with a sub.

I don't use Supernatural but I've burned 115,000 calories on my Quest 2... That's like 30 pounds of human effort. Had my goal been to lose weight I could have lost a massive amount just playing video games.
