Their belief, distilled to its essence, was “You only have one life; therefore, it’s logical that you do only one thing, but do it very well.” There were always exceptions-John Singer Sargent was a fine pianist, Arnold Schoenberg painted well enough to influence Kandinsky and Chagall, Marcel Duchamp composed, etc.-but an artist who excelled at more than one thing was often stuck with the label “dilettante.” Your generation’s approach is, on the whole, healthier, I think. I want to get back into oil painting portraits I did when I was younger in high school and a dropped it to due to the fact that I like to wait for the paint to dry the problem I'm having now is that when I start to layer color I cannot get the upper layers of oil to adhere to the lower there's what am I doing wrong thank you so much for sharing your talent with us
You're the most talented painter on youtube, love your work. But I'm a complete hypochondriac about using solvents, even Gamsol. Both my father and step father were painters using turpentine for years, who spent their last years with dementia. Whether or not it was caused by the turp, who knows. And unfortunately for me, the art I love and want to paint are the beautiful wet on wet portraits, I especially love Liepke. So I must spend days and weeks blending using walnut oil. This has utterly stifled my progress over the last 20 years
(I don't mean anything bad, I'm just asking, I'm really interested) you definitely live by creating art, and I assume you live by a good standard, I mean you don't survive? just answer me and I will delete the question🙏
