    Rather then dump $3 or $4 grand on a supercharger, slap some tires and wheels, and lowering springs. I would like to see you take a car like a Chevelle, run through a mechanical inspection so that the viewers can see what needs to be done as a starting point. Then go through and redo the steering and brakes, suspension (shocks and springs). Anything safety or handling fixes then run through a complete analysis of the engine, transmission and differential. New tires/wheels if needed. This would be more real world and what Joe Viewer would be going through.
    Videos like this, give the viewer the expectation that I can just throw thousands of dollars on speed equipment and drive it on the street safely. Let's set the benchmark of when it is appropriate to add speed equipment.

    • @45H16E
      @45H16E 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +blanchae agreed. Because in what world does it make sense to put a blower and two Holleys on an unknown motor - unless you aren't paying for it yourself or you do know the motor is sound. And did the dude claim, "for not much money"? really? Maybe he meant, not much (none) of MY money but "only" $10K of sponsor dough. Don't try this at home kiddies, you'll waste a couple of years of your kid'sfuture for a blown up car.

      Real World Budget Build:
      1. Shabby garage or driveway
      2. Limited air tools
      3. Craftsman/cheap hand tools
      4. Buy a car in the midwest (rust!)
      5. Buy all of the parts on a budget that assumes you make $45,000/year, have a mortgage, a wife, 2 kids, and a dog.
      6. Assume you're going to have to drive the car every day.
      7. Assume you're going to have to pay for the gas for the car with the previously mentioned budget and a commute of 20 miles/day.
      8. Make the car safe to drive, not just fast.

      ...and a bunch of people helping you.
      And money for the parts. They forgot to include the part where you work for a year or so before you can buy that blower... mission failed!

    • @bobbyleescott
      @bobbyleescott 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ziiofswe you can pick a 6-71 and manifold up for like 2100 on craigslist. springs are 500 bucks front and rear on craigslist. tires and wheels another grand max. 7k in a day isnt out of a lot of peoples capabilities if they save for it. granted finding a beater malibu for 3k no is hard but not impossible.
      and you have to be pretty damn slow to not be able to do in it in a little over 8 hours even without a shop so long as you have buddies and beer

    • @ziiofswe
      @ziiofswe 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      2100.. that's equivalent to about a month's pay for me, if I don't buy anything else at all that month... no mortgages, no electricity, nothing. In other words, that wouldn't work. So it would probably take me a year to put that kind of money aside. And on that price I'll also have to pay custom fees, possibly VAT and other stuff, since I'm in Sweden.... So yeah, it would probably take me 1-2 years for the blower alone...

    • @bobbyleescott
      @bobbyleescott 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, i do have it lucky here in the US, after i finished school i was lucky enough to make that as a monthly salary and dont always think about how much other people make in a month.

    • @ziiofswe
      @ziiofswe 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, Sweden is a bit of a "semi-socialist country", we get lots of stuff for free or almost free like health care, education etc etc... which means taxes, which means lower income.
      And since I don't have any control over 30-35 percent of my total salary (closer to 50-60% if you include various fees etc the employer also has to pay), I can't say "yay, I've been healthy the last two months, let's buy a blower for those money!"
      But then again, you probably have a health insurance you have to pay every month, regardless of if you're sick or not. It's difficult to compare countries! Easy to be "home blind".
      I think the biggest problem is that you actually have those compressors available on your market, while we have to import them if we want some cool stuff up through the hoods.

      There was water in it cause they didnt drain the radiator before removing the intake manifold. And a stock internal 350 will last a fair while under boost from a supercharger. And considering they said this one looks like it was jsut rebuilt, it will probably last even longer.. It's not like they will be pushing 30-35psi like the turbo guys, i'd be amazed if they pushed anymore then 17...

      They looked ok, like the gasket. Which since it wasn't disassembled meant they were still inside the block in their correct location so must be good. Only time you need a rebuild is when you window a block, right? Which happened shortly after this video ended...

    Blower was a waste of money/time. Could have had a crate motor and better rims/tires for the brake/suspension upgrade.
    and still some $$$ for other stuff. Car looked as bad finished as when they brought it in, maybe worse with that stupid blower.

    • @FernandoEidPires
      @FernandoEidPires 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not to mention they re-used the gasket and tried to use the same oil filter... What the heck!

    • @tarstarkusz
      @tarstarkusz 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fernando Eid Pires Not to mention those old Malibu Clssics aren't very fast anyway. I had a 74 or 75 Malibu Classic when I was a teen in the 80s and stock it was only like 150hp. If you want to put a blower on one of these thing, you have to overhaul the engine and make some changes. I tell you what though, that was one comfortable car.

    • @davidjames2788
      @davidjames2788 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      tarstarkusz '72, and '74-5 are very different things, before the gas crisis hit in '73 that Chevelle (Malibu was a trim level.) made around 300 horsepower.

    • @tarstarkusz
      @tarstarkusz 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      David James I have very vague memories of that gas crisis, I was like 4 years old. I wonder how they made such changes in such a short time. I know mine only had a double barrel carb. They must have been using a different engine from some other car or trim level to drop the power in 1/2 in only a year or 2.

    • @davidjames2788
      @davidjames2788 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      if it had a 350, it was still the same basic engine, but after 73, leaded gas went away, and emissions laws got strict, so everybody had to lower compression, and de-tune their engines. Heck the 454, was making north of 400 horsepower in 1970, a few years later, it made somewhere around 240.

    You don't just install a blower on an engine without lowering the compression ratio to 7 to 1. Obviously don't know what they are doing. And the bald mechanic must be gay.

    • @br8302
      @br8302 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      With a low boost blower like a 6-71 you don't need stupid low compression like 7:1, that car is probably 8:1 compression just fine with maybe 6 psi, you just need to make sure you have good fuel and good afr

    • @shredBucketheadshred
      @shredBucketheadshred 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      fiddlerpin depends on how much boost its running, they might have had it under driven an hardly pumping anything. pulled the timing an put some decent fuel in it an it will be just fine

    • @shredBucketheadshred
      @shredBucketheadshred 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      br8302 a 6-71 is not a low boost blower whatever that is, if its driven hard enough its going to make plenty of boost an volume

    • @polymomen
      @polymomen 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      U can run 9:1 compression easily with a blower its only been done since the 60's 7 to 1 compression aint good for nothing! Not even boost smh

    just whack the steering knuckle with a good size hammer where the ball joint is wedge-mated in. if the ball joint goes through it, hit it on the side. should take one or two whacks. when you are done, hit the knuckle on the top side lightly and repeatedly where the ball joint enters (to flatten out any deformation). takes about 12 seconds

    Still pretty awesome I think you about doubled the value of that car which is pretty amazing for 6 hours work.
