It's about a "loser" guy who witness a murder but while running away he got run over and got amnesia, he was able to take away the psycho killer's diary but since he can't remember he thought he was the psycho killer

The scene when Dong-Eun saved the old lady is an accurate example of people who are suicidal but don't want other people to do the same. 3 mothers helped Dong Eun, Mrs. Kang, the old lady and Yeo-Jeong's mom. This show for me was actually all about mothers and how they treat their children and other children affect every different lives and it was beautifully written. ❤

My exact thoughts! The show had an ongoing theme about mothers and daughters.
Different kinds of mothers, from mothers like Mrs. Kang who will do anything to protect their daughter, to mothers like Yeon Jin’s that are ready to throw them under the bus if it means getting away.

    • @dknown

The inspiration for the writer is based on her daughter's question to her about bullying. And she found the answer through writing the script. So I think you are right to say this story is about mothers.

@@lettuce6321 Just to add, if Yeon Jin was raised and nurtured properly by her mother, she would have never become the person she did growing up and this show would have never taken place. Yes! Mothers can either be this or the first perpetrator/ curling iron in their children’s lives (which was the case with Dong-Eun). This story truly is about mothers. If Yeonjin and Dong-eun’s mothers weren’t like that, I wonder how different their lives and personalities would be… then perhaps one won’t be a victim and the other her offender.

I’m glad the show went through with the revenge route. I mean she didn’t kill *ALL* of them as planned, but most shows would end by saying “it’s not worth it,” or try to *redeem* the bad guys. She took her revenge, left satisfied, and said fuck it lets avenge my boo too!

    • @michanone
      @michanone ปีที่แล้ว +212

It wasn't about killing all of them. It was about taking away what they cherished the most. Taking what they used to torture her and use it against them.
The one always laughing lost her voice.
The one who always stared lost his eyesight.
The one who went wherever she wanted to was put into prison and lost her husband and daughter.
The one who always did drügs is now forced to go without them.
They all lost what "good" they had.

    • @johncra8982
      @johncra8982 ปีที่แล้ว +62

Yep, it was so refreshing to not have "revenge bad" shoved down your throat for the millionth time. And the real surprise for me came from realizing that more than a revenge story, this is actually a love story, about two victims getting revenge, restoring their glory/dignity, and then finding a love with each other that's so pure that they manage to find something to live for after their revenge - each other.
More and more, I keep thinking about the scene where Yeojeong plays Go with the husband, and describes something that no one other than Yeojeong and Dongeun can understand - why the revenge means so much to them. He's the ONLY one that really gets it. That's the scene where it really becomes clear that it's THEIR story, and that he really was put into the world just for her. Then when he reveals that he knew the truth all along, and he'd always loved her and intended to help her from the start, since before she even considered "using" him, he just ascends to being one of the most GOAT characters of all time.
Everything that we as an audience wanted for dongeun, that we wished for dongeun, he brought all of that into her life, and that's why it's so satisfying to see them succeed and find happiness and love together in the end. THIS SHOW IS SO PERFECT!

Something I don't think a lot of people got (maybe it's a cultural difference) is that the same deity that killed the shaman (the White Tiger spirit, whose talisman is the one that fell over the mother's face in the same scene) seems to be literally protecting Moon Dong Eun and Ha Do Young at the end (represented by the clouds covering the sky as they entered the prison at the end). It might seem unusual to use because normally we would take a "sign from God" to be something like the clouds PARTING.

Interesting tidbit. The writer mentioned in an interview that from the very beginning, she wanted Jae Jun to die from a fall just like So Hee so that Jae Jun's demise would be So Hee's revenge. She tinkered with the ultimate fate of many characters, but she was knew exactly how Jae Jun's end would be. Somewhat of an odd part of the show is that all of the male villains were killed - the homeroom teacher, Myeong Oh, abusive husband, crooked cop, and Jae Jun. Only female to be killed was the shaman, presumably at the hand of her god who she offended.

O think that's because the male victims still had the potential to bully and victimize other people, even if they were stripped of all their status and wealth, simply because they're men and can physically overpower women in a way that female bullies can't.
Whereas keeping the female bullies alive, but effectively stripped of all their power and wealth would probably be torture for them, because they're relatively helpless without it. Like, i'd argue that Park being bullied in prisom for the rest of her life is a far worse fate than death.

2:40 SHEERA IS THE ONLY PERSON WHO GOT IT. that scene always leaves a blurry impression on most people but sheera caught it by the balls as always.
he wasnt worried she had left him because he wasnt her type, that was him joking to lighten the mood he wasnt worried for her attraction to him, he feels secure in that, what he was worried about was her affection for him, to be specific, just how much she liked him. her leaving him that day 7 years ago could have been out of 3 things in his eyes, 1-She found someone to love and trust, her heart was won over, 2-she found another way around him and not having use for him meant he got discarded: she didnt have affection for him in the first place, and 3-she left him because she couldnt bring herself to ask anything of him that he already didnt offer(the go lessons) BECAUSE of her affection for him. he was still useful to the plan, he was still a needed piece but she gave up on him because she grew to like him in their lessons.
HE basically confesses Her Love to him in that scene which is why she looks so caught off guard. she can ask him for things now, as her intentions have been cleared up and their relationship has been redefined on basis of care and love for each other. and she asks for his help Only until this is all over. because she isnt planning to live past that and she doesnt want him to know that. god its such a good scene. I don't watch a lot of tv shows, I certainly don't watch kdramas, and I CERTAINLY don't watch romance shows at all, so it caught me totally off guard when I got to the final episode and realized that the thing I cared about more than anything else in the show was Dongeun and Yeojeong ending up together. Like the whole show, I was trying not to get attached to that part of the story, because years of horrible endings in Western shows and movies had trained me to expect the worst, most unsatisfying, expectation-subverting ending ever.
So when episode 15 ended with the two of them coming face to face in the hospital lobby, the way that scene was edited to make it look almost confrontational made me so worked up, put me SO ON EDGE, that I think my mind just entered a haze and I got this intense brain-fog that made it impossible for me to follow anything that was happening or being said 😅 It's like I went from trying to keep it cool and not be affected by anything tied to Dongeun and Yeojeong's relationship, to being so overwhelmed that I couldn't even understand any of the lines, and I needed someone to calm me down and just tell me if yeojeong was going to be okay 😂 I was like a baby freaking out. So when this episode opened with the reveal about yeojeong always having loved her and always having intended to help her, so much of it just went past me cuz I was just locked into that hyperstressed mode, going "SO THIS IS GOOD RIGHT? YOU GUYS ARE GOOD RIGHT? HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING BAD RIGHT YOU'RE NOT GONNA LEAVE HIM RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT???" 😂😂
I honestly didn't even register most of what happened in the first half of the episode because of it. Then when she left after their date at the ocean, I lost it so bad that I didn't even realize it before I grabbed a towel or a piece of cloth that was on my table and just chucked it. I was actually shocked at how emotionally invested I'd gotten, like I couldn't even remember the last time something affected me so much emotionally and took over my feelings to that extent. It genuinely surprised me to see myself react like that. And then I was just slumped in my chair after that, totally zoned out, convinced that it was all over and wishing I'd never heard about the show in the first place 😂
AND THEN the rooftop scene happened, and man, when the voice that stopped her turned out to not be Yeojeong, but YEOJEONG'S MOM?? BEGGING FOR DONGEUN TO LIVE BECAUSE HER SON COULDN'T BEAR TO LIVE WITHOUT HER??? 😭The reaction I had to that scene as it was happening was something that I don't think I'd EVER had with anything else. It was like Interstellar, times a thousand 😂 Like the memories scene and the "don't let me leave murph" scenes combined, and dialed up to a hundred 😂
And then the show restored all my humanity and gave me what is easily one of my favorite endings in anything I've ever experienced, across all forms of media. I swear When Dongeun walked back into their home with the groceries, I was holding my breath the entire scene up until the kiss happened. And then I almost fell out of my chair screaming. And I'm someone that NEVER emotes or reacts to ANYTHING I watch 😅 Just pure perfection all the way down. Looking back, I still can't believe how perfectly it ended. I legit feel GRATEFUL to the people that made this show, because it reminded me of just how beautiful and perfect stories can really be 😊🙏

@@johncra8982 That's essentially what kdramas do 😂 Even in the romance genre, the romance is just so stilted and awkward..you're relieved when it takes a backseat to the plot. But as the plot develops, they're sneakily developing the romance too.
I think it's also because there's no excessive touching and kissing, so when hand holding finally happens you're freaking out...there's more value to those moments because they're so rare. Whereas in western shows you get so many sex scenes that you're indifferent to it.

    • @johncra8982

@@g.j.9515 100% agreed. And it's funny, I actually don't watch a lot of romance stuff since it's not a genre I particularly care about a lot, but for some reason my favorite movies are films that when you start watching them, you think they're one thing, like a crime drama or revenge film or a thriller or a detective story or whatever, but then as you watch the film, it turns out that it's actually a love story 😁 Anyway, as of now, my three favorite love stories are Paul Thomas Anderson's Phantom Thread, a foreign film from Bollywood called Veer Zaara, and now, The Glory. Never thought I'd see anything that would end up next to those other two, but I'm so glad this show did it with ease 👏
And about the ending, personally I REALLY hope they don't make any more of this show. The show is perfect right now. All the thematic threads have been resolved, all the lessons and ideas that the writers wanted to share about revenge and glory and love have been explored to their fullest, and the beating heart of the story - the relationship between Dongeun and Yeojeong - has been given a perfect happily ever after ending that is rarer than a dodo bird these days. To drag this story out just for the sake of a plot point in which yeojeong tortures his dad's killer through some elaborate scheme that dongeun hatches... I can't think of anything more pointless and soulless. It'd be like watching the end of Return of the King and going, "oh man I hope we get to see a sequel trilogy about Aragon learning how to be a King!" Like, we already saw everything important. Just leave it be, DON'T ENDANGER THE PEACE THAT MY FAVORITE COUPLE HAS FINALLY FOUND!
The only extra content I'll accept wholeheartedly is mini-episodes of Dongeun and Yeojeong trying out different recipes together, getting gifts for each other, setting up dates, getting married, going on vacation, watching movies, just hanging out, etc. Nothing else 😤

But seriously, something I love about a lot of Korean media I've watched is the effortless skill with which the writers often infuse objects and symbols with a mountain's worth of meaning. In Decision to Leave, it's things like cellphones and pockets, in the Handmaiden, it's things like fabrications and drawings, and in The Glory, it's every single object that Yeojeong touches. Mrs. Kang's daughter is studying in the US, she will come back to Korea eventually! That's why Mrs. Kang started a business so their family can have something nice for when the kid comes home. If she sees her mother thriving and being happy, she also can enjoy her university years overseas to the fullest, without worrying that her mom is miserable back home.

Actually it is enough. She lost her voice meaning she can't be stewardess anymore. She already broke up with her fiance. She is not from rich family anyway, meaning she has to work for living and she won't find good job without her voice. All she can do is job like cleaning etc. And she maybe can't get husband to support her. Most men wouldn't want to marry mute woman.

I mean it all make sense, she was the most sane one out of that group. She even was a potential victim herself, since they stated several times that if it wasn’t Dongeun it would have easily been her. Now I’m not saying she is completely innocent, but she is a saint compared to a murderer, two rapists, and a drug addict, don’t you think? Plus, she wasn’t being difficult with Dongeun at all, she even helped her accomplish her plan. It’s as if she was also being saved by Dongeun in the process. Moon technically freed Hyejeong from that group, even if she had to potentially lose her speaking ability and prestige for it. Now she gets a second chance at life, to restart everything and leave her old ways behind.

    • @SoggyMuffin007
      @SoggyMuffin007 ปีที่แล้ว +15

@@itaatisa8357 I agree, the consequences that Hyejeong received was more than enough. At her core, she never truly intended to hurt Dongeun like Yeonjin and the others did. She was simply trying to survive through school, cause she would have been one of their victims herself if she didn’t play along. She isn’t completely innocent but I think Dongeun gave her a second chance at life, even if it’s going to be a shabby life form now on. At the very least, she can go restart, contemplate her past actions, and become a new person. If the Heavens forgive her, then maybe she’d gain somewhat of her speech back too.

@@itaatisa8357 I don’t Hye-jeong’s muteness is permanent. Surgeries have advanced a lot, there are people who actually got their voices back after ending up mute thanks to a surgery. If Hye-jeong gets herself a surgery, she will be able to speak again, and she can continue to be a flight attendant (the doctor himself even said that, sometimes, voices do come back). However, I still think her punishment was too harsh compared to Sa-ra’s as she’ll probably have PTSD. I would rather have Sa-ra end up either with a lifelong disability or dead. And Hye-jeong should have had a redemption arc instead of a pencil stabbing.

The ONLY itty, bitty thing that I wish was different was how Dong Eun came to the decision to continue living. Instead of his mom randomly showing up at the exact moment she was going to jump to beg her to live for her son, I wish that Dong Eun came to the decision herself by thinking about how much she loved Yeo Jeong and remembering all of the people who have been on her side this whole time. My heart rate was dangerously high up until the kiss happened 😂 I've been burned by so many horrible endings in so many shows, movies, anime, books, across different languages and cultures, just so many stories that end with some tryhard tragic expectation-subverting nonsense that sacrifices satisfaction in favor of cheap shock, that I was convinced Dongeun wasn't going to end up with Yeojeong, and that I'd just end up hating having gotten so invested in the show instead.
And then they hit me with one of my favorite endings of all time to any story in any medium 🥳🥳🥳 I almost fell out of my chair fist pumping and screaming out of joy when they ended up together, and the last words of the show ended up being Yeojeong and Dongeun saying "I love you" to each other.
From being completely alone and heartbroken her whole life, and feeling like she would never feel anything other than hatred and grief, to discovering the purest, truest love ever with Yeojeong, and realizing she wanted to live life again with him, God, Dongeun and Yeojeong deserved all the love and happiness in the world, and the reason I'll always remember and love this show as long as I live is that THEY GOT THAT LOVE AND HAPPINESS WITH EACH OTHER! 🥳🥳🔥🔥🔥
I seriously wish more people, especially in the west, pay attention to this story and realize that you CAN satisfy the audience by giving them exactly what they want, by giving them all the wish fulfilment they could desire, and by giving your story a beautiful happily ever after ending. Just making everything miserable isn't some easy short cut to being a "serious and mature **WORK OF ART**"
You can satisfy people with a happy ending and still be a masterpiece, this show proves it 😊🥰

In our culture (I think?), newly built places (houses, buildings, etc.) need to "blessed" and there should be a "sacrifice" and it's usually an animal. We also get some of that animal's blood and put it in the walls of the new house/building. We call it PADUGO.
For example, for a small house, killing a chicken as a sacrifice would suffice. If it's a bigger house, a goat or if much bigger, a cow.
For buildings, like huge/buildings such as hotels, malls, etc. it would always be human sacrifices cause sacrificing animals would not be enough.
During the construction of such buildings, we would always, always hear on the news some "accident" that occurred at the site killing some of the construction workers. As harsh and evil as it may be, we would always assume that that was the "sacrifice," and it was set up and made to appear as an accident so the building and business would be "blessed."
When I saw Jae Jun falling on the concrete, I immediately thought that Jae Jun also served as the sacrifice for the blessing of that building. 😅
P.S. I'm not actually sure if this belief is only in my country (Philippines) or it's an Asian thing. 🤔

If I were very honest with you guys, I hope Hye-jeong will be able to get her voice back. She wasn’t really as bad as her “friends” as she just wanted to fit in with them and was in love with Jae-jun, and I also feel bad for her because of the way Yeon-jin and most especially Sa-ra treated her. With all the surgeries available at this day and age, Hye-jeong could really have a surgery be performed on her vocal cords and be able to speak again. After this, she can continue to work as a flight attendant, while also changing to become a better person and make amends for her participation in the bullying. Hye-jeong getting her voice back as well as her flight attendant job would also be a very fitting punishment for Sa-ra as I’m sure that she wouldn’t like it if the so-called friend that she actually hated was living her life like Sa-ra never attacked her while her life is slowly deteriorating because of that same attack. On top of that, if Sa-ra ever gets out of prison, I hope she will be poor as fuck and have no choice but to be a janitor at the very same airport where the flights Hye-jeong works on as a flight attendant take off and land as she would see for herself that Hye-jeong is enjoying her life, while she is forced to work at a job that doesn’t pay her well and that forces her to accomplish tasks that she hates (I’m pretty sure Sa-ra wouldn’t enjoy mopping floors and scrubbing airport restrooms for 90 wons a day).

I think the beginning of this episode answers one of the rhetorical questions Dong-Eun had asked in one of the first few episodes: “I wonder which is stronger- the solidarity between the perpetrators or the one between the victims”. All the perpetrators who had committed those heinous crimes stabbed each other (quite literally lmao) in the back and ended that messy tangle of ill-fated relationships amongst themselves on the worst possible note. Whereas, the victims (Ms. Kang, Yeo-jeong, Dong-eun, and now, even Gyeong-ran and So-hee in a way) helped each other achieve justice, though they all went through their ups and downs.
I believe the question was flawed to boot with, since a perpetrator would only look out for their own self without dedicating themselves for anybody else’s sake; the “solidarity” they have amongst themselves solely exists since if one goes down, they will take the others with them too, but that’s not the case with victims. When one achieve justice, you see hope for yourself AND for others, so their solidarity is tied by quite a distinct knot, that undoubtedly imo, is the stronger and purer one.

I love how this wasn't a Kill Bill style revenge, she just set things in motion and revealed the truth.

My favorite thing about this all revenge is that at the end of the day what she basically did was to instigate chaos between the bully group so they'd betray eachother and she never in fact dirtied her hands, she always manipulated someone else to do the dirty work, if they had been real friends, if they trusted eachother, her revenge would have never worked, but she knew them so well and how greedy, selfish and self centered they all were that the only thing she really needed to do was planting the little seed of doubt on each one of them and they all ended up like this, it's like when they say a thief will think everyone else are also thieves 🥴

Producers need to know when to stop while ahead. We don't need to know anymore of this story. They cleaned up all the lose ends. We know what will happen to that guy. No need for any risk of messing up. I agree S tier.

The show has a lose end though, Yeo Jeong’s as he hasn’t gotten his revenge yet. I don’t think the writer would have made his story arc such an important one if she wasn’t planning on finishing it up.
