Tbf I've heard some horror stories about Korean high school kids being able to get away with practically anything to how the law functions in Korea, the most that will happen is they have to write an apology letter and the parents may have to pay some form of compensation that's it
Yeah, one of the reason why my family moved to a lot of countries. I was bullied heavily for my appearances. I'm an albino and for some reason, that's a reason to treat me less than a human. If you're rich in korea, you can practically get away with almost anything.

@@thexvault this isn’t true, the biggest cases are completely unrelated to the author. At most, some are inspired by what her daughter has seen. I’m sure she has some experiences of her own but she has never implied she pulled directly from her own life and that’s okay. Not every story has to be personal, she can speak up for others

Korean citizens were asked about this show's accuracy. Most answered that the show actually was toned down compared to much of the bullying incidents that happened in Korea. There are countless incidents where victims were hospitalized in critical condition, near death, for up to months or years even. The reason why this happens is because Korea has a law that protects all minors from getting any severe or serious punishments no matter what crime they commit. The most they would do is have the bullies do a short period of social work, or pay for some damage caused to the victim, which in most cases, are not even enough for medical bills. The iron incident also happened, the victim actually came on a show to speak about it, and mentioned that her bullies were never taken seriously, and went completely unpunished. She mentioned that her bullies are now living a normal life, one working as a social worker.
@@Sthuthukile I mean, I got called cheesier and unoriginal things before. Now that I think about it, very very cringe inducing things like McGeek and nerd. Not to mention I was slightly obese when I was younger so I had to deal with very unimaginative fat insults.
I think most of the times, bullying is not the main theme. It's a pity that recently a Korean bullying case was brought up in TH-cam and the perpetrator mocked the victim as if she's acting like The Glory's main character (saying like "What, do you think you're Song He-kyo now?") instead of apologizing. On one hand, the drama somehow made an impact for a victim to speak up. On another hand, no matter how many times it's brought up, there's no drama that could make an impact about bullying like The Glory did.
I would also add the United States to the list considering that there are bullied kids that have then become school shooters as a result of the bullying and due to not having any support structure in their life to deter them from that path.
I promise you that this is not a typical revenge story that we’re used to watching. I think this is one of the best revenge story I’ve ever watched. Promise!!!!

The timeline goes back and forth a lot which makes it confusing at first, but the stapler-gun part was just Dong-eun's imagination :) Also, the show is mostly based off true stories! Obviously, I loved all the actors and their acting but personally I think the young versions of Dong-eun and Yeon-jin were incredible.
Not sure how familiar you guys are with the severity of bullying in South Korea, I myself am not knowledge and only did basic read throughs after the show, many real life victims thought the show downplayed the extent and actions done by the story. That alone is haunting.
Bullying is fundamentally different in Asia, places like Korea and Japan, its actual violence based on hierarchy and cliques, and there's obviously been quite a few major cases, but those are just the ones that got public, especially since even teachers often take part to some degree, ignore it, or are victims of hierarchy themselves e.g the bullies are rich, and their parents have sway, such as hush money, positions of power. A lot of what happens in this show is based on famous cases that have happened in real life, and is through the lense of another countries culture and its relationship with bullying and violence in general, and its a significant problem in South korea, and one that hasnt been adressed properly, as you saw even the law failed to help her
@xvii_medusa_xvii no its clearly not, most bullying does not get that far due to law and social reasons, people may be bullied for not being popular and a vague heirachry, in Asia hierarchy is more rigid and pronounced, in the west adults or police would be more likely to have gotten involved due to the extremity of the case, and the fact they were doing it so openly

Also schools here do not tolerate this kind of violence, there was this bullying incident that occurred in 2018, when a student physically bullied a schoolmate inside the bathroom of the campus. The incident was captured on video and was met with widespread shock and outrage on social media, with local celebrities, politicians, and netizens denouncing the incident. Soon the government expanded the anti-bullying law of 6 years imprisonment and a fine of 2,000 dollars.

There are a couple of true stories this was based on. First is that there was a girl burned with an iron repeatedly and her father blamed her for the bullying. Then in Japan a man waited 13 years before attempting a revenge in which he was going to poison his classmates and blow them up too.
I was bullied not only by fellow students, but by some teachers as well, my Science teacher in particular. He was a cold hearted ex Airforce Pilot who treated his class like he was still in the service, and expected nothing but perfection, and if you're anything short of that, youre a nobody. One time he said to the class that after we were done with a test, we could either lay our heads down or read a book, so after I finished my test, i pulled out a Harry Potter book from my book bag. Next thing i know Mr Perfect walked up to me and said "What do you think you're doing?" I said what he said we could do after we were done, and he said "I never said you could read, put that book away!" Noone in class backed me up on it. Not to mention that sane teacher also pulled me outside alot with the doir open and lectured and humiliated me in front of my classmates all the time to the point that i was holding back tears. It was for completely unreasonable reasons as well. He didn't do this to any of the students that were actual bad seeds, but to the student that wasn't that good at Science and who did everything he asked. Instead of encouraging me and helping me get better, he straight up bullied me.

@@luckyblue2758 it’s a problem everywhere, yes, but the issue with korea is the social culture and laws side with the bully. In the korean language alone there is a systemic way to talk to people based on social hierarchy. This means the way you talk to someone older than you is way different than someone younger than you, not just tonely, but there are grammatical differences. Even if someone is only a year older than you, you have to treat them like they are a higher being than you. I’ll explain through schools (since this is where some of the most severe cases of Korean bullying occur). Often cases the bully is an upper class men, if not they are considered “higher” than the victim due to factors such as economic social standing (how wealthy their family is). This strict social and linguistic rule to respect your elders and superiors comes back from confucianism. Because this economic social standing comes first, even though the students are younger than the teachers, if they (or their families) have more social power than the teachers, they are the superiors. This in itself would cause intense bullying, but the legal system doesn’t help. In South Korea, if you are younger than 10 you can’t be charged for any crime you commit… it doesn’t matter how severe the crime was, even if it was unaliving someone you would get nothing. 10-13 can be tried under Juvenile court if the case is ‘severe enough’ which really doesn’t mean anything since that means each judge gets to decide. Once you are 14-19 you are charged under Juvenile court. Once you are 20 you are charged under the criminal act (essentially as an Adult) The reason this is insane is because if you are charged under the Criminal Act you can face maximum of 20 years imprisonment (due to Korean laws working in a unique way, they don’t stack crimes, they take the worst sentence and that’s what you serve, so if you unalived like 8 people in a brutal way, you wouldn’t get 8 sentences back to back, only 1 sentence for your worst crime). But if you are charged under the Juvenile Act, the most severe punitive action you can get is two years of incarceration at a juvenile detention center and community service without a criminal record. this intersection of legal systems and social hierarchy results in some of the most severe cases of school bullying in the world. Alongside social pressure for perfection from every human within Korea results in South Korea having one of the highest rates of self-unaliving in the world (in 2019 it was the 4th highest by country). And Suicide is the number one cause of death among South Koreans aged 10 to 39
OMG yesssss finally.. The bullying with the iron actually happend in south korea.. As per a report by the Korea Herald, the bullies would ask the victim for money. When this demand wasn’t met, they would hit her with a baseball bat, burn her with a curling iron, scratch her chest with a barrette, or even abuse her with fists and feet. The victim noted that her wounds had no time to heal since the abusers would burn her body every other day to check the temperature of the hair curler. They also, reportedly, peeled her healing scabs as punishment. The abuse eventually led to a protruded tailbone and a six-week hospitalisation. This lasted around three weeks.
What I found crazy was that a Korean youtuber reacting to this, at seeing the scene of the professor slaping her, said 'ah yeah, I've seen this happen at my school'. She said it with such a naturality like it was normal. Crazy
The country I’m from, corporal punishment was a thing in the early 2000’s. I once saw a teacher smack a kid with what was like an actual whip as a form of punishment in front of the entire class.
I'm glad you're watching another Kdrama! Kdramas are incredible. Just a tip for watching subbed - there is a "English subtitles" setting & "English CC" setting. Make sure you're always watching Kdramas with the "English SUBTITLES" setting (NOT "English CC") bc the English CC is not the translation but it is actually the closed captioning for the English DUBBING (which often is not the exact translation; they often change the wording to fit the dubbing better, so it is not exactly what the screenwriter actually wrote or what the actor actually said. This was esp terrible with Squid Game - the English CC translation was bad!)
They watched Squid Game previously...they've also watched a number of foreign tv shows and movies. The guys also talked about wanting to watch more foreign content. This reaction is not surprising at all if you pay attention.

Sadly, Asian Boss interviewed people on the streets about the legitimacy of this bullying in South Korea and many agreed and others said that it could be worse than this in some cases 😢
Now that I think about it, my biggest bully from middle school got arrested for breaking into an elderly, yes elderly woman's house trying to rob the place thinking the lady wasn't home because it was a Sunday morning and the dumba** thought she was at Church.
I'm so glad you guys are reacting to this show! The Glory is one of my favorite k-dramas I have watched this year. So many people I know have watched it, and they have all agreed that this first episode is one of the hardest ones to watch (my mom almost stopped watching because she hated the scene with the teacher so much!). For me the most tragic thing about Dong-eun's story is how all the adults in her life failed to protect her. I hope you enjoy this story!
I remember my school bully being scrawny and boney. He would mentally torment me any chance he got, but he wasn't the biggest issue. The biggest issue was the teachers and even the principal and vice principal didnt do much about it. One time they had both of us stay on separate sides of the (I guess you could call it a playground), but did that stop him, Hell no. One day I had enough and smacked him across the back of his headand knocked his glasses off. Of course a student ratted me out and i was sent to the principals office. She and the vice principal called my mom, who just laughed, i remember the vice saying "Ma'am this isn't a laughing matter." Then i could here my mana say over the phone "Yes it is, we told you something like this would happen." I got OSS (Out Of School Suspension) for 3 days while the bully got 1 or 2 days of ISS (In School Suspension)
From what I understand, righteous vengeance against awful bullies (who are normally wealthy and connected) is a common topic in Korean fiction. I wished I had a stress-ball when I watched this episode.
This was truly a well done series. You can tell that the team behind it really put thought, effort, and passion into this project. It's a great example of how powerful writers are as a core part of the creative team. It's a shame that the strike is something that writers felt pushed to do because it's such a simple solution if you value the work they do. Basic respect and reasonable compensation is the least they can do for those folks.
Growing up, I was bullied my entire childhood. Every day at school, I had multiple people in my year just push me around, grab and throw me, spit in my food, push chairs out as I tried to sit down, kick me, steal from me, pour paint in my hair. One time a kid threw a sharpened pencil that it went into my head and caused bleeding (only the tip, not like, a vampire stake or anything.) ... Most, if not all of these kids honestly, had no real background, or personal story. They came from good homes, had good friends... But they were just horrible for the sake of it. Power, entertainment, twisted understanding. They KNEW it was bad, yet they did it anyway... So, sadly, while it's nice to think bullies have some sort of reason to do this, personally or mentally, a lot of bullies do not. This show does have slightly one-sided bullies, at least during the kid flashback scenes. But as someone with experience, that is how asshole kids can be.
I agree that often bullies just bully for the sake of it. Cos of mob mentality or wanting to look cool, or simply bc its how they entertain their pathetic selves. But just bc you think you know whats going on in the life of a bully, doesn't mean you do. (Not that it makes any difference to the victim, nor does it excuse the bully's actions)
I haven't seen it, but I'm wondering if she told the bullies what they're dreams are as foreshadowing that she's gonna take every single one of them away from them. Like her idea of revenge isn't deleting any of them, but making them taste the same despair she did in THAT way so they'll continue to suffer or decide to delete themselves for her. Either way, I thought it was a great reaction from you guys and can't wait to watch more alongside you three!
I'm so glad you guys are watching this show! It's brilliant, and still so effective no matter how many times I have seen it. Watching you guys react to it my anger at the characters rose all over again, despite already knowing how the show progresses. I was bullied in school (no where near as badly as the main character here) and it did include some physical bullying, such as a boy running up behind me and hitting me over the head with a large stone, or having someone jump on my back and scratch my face, nearly blinding me in one eye. So the bullying scenes do trigger me particularly. It's only counselling that has helped me to move on from what happened, helping me see it from another angle, I have not forgiven them, but I have moved on. This show really helps to show how bullying affects the victim in every aspect of their life. As harrowing as this show can be, we absolutely need more like it.
the nurse actually did try to help her but she had no actual power to do anything and no one else cared. it's truly tragic that this drama is based on a true incident of bullying in South Korea. ❤

This drama gets very heavy sometimes and even though ep 1 spends the most time exploring the characters as high school students during the bullying, there are very sudden, pretty graphic flashbacks as well so be prepared for that. Otherwise, this show is so good and so worth the watch. The female lead and the second lead are both badass, the supporting cast is so convincing and absolutely killed their roles and the plot and how Dong Eun’s revenge comes to fruition is pretty phenomenal. I know that you guys are going to have a blast watching this!

Fun fact (not really): this k drama is based on a true story, and the bullying in the glory is actually a slightly watered down version of what the real victims experienced.
I’ve watched so many podcasts and youtube videos that break down the actual case and it’s insanely heartbreaking… the revenge isn’t real but the experience of being bullied like that was true if not watered down… it’s so sad
@@lixjoonhoneymt7149 Wrong, the revenge was inspired by a real case as well, but from Japan. The guy planned it all out for over 13 years. He failed because his mother found his journal and called the police. Since his plan was to kill over 40 people, which included the bullies, the teachers and the other classmates. He got charged with attempted murder and terrorism.
@@Ateezwooyoung that’s a different case, and it’s possible that’s the inspiration, i’m saying that in the case of the curling iron and other korean cases that seem to be the inspiration for the bullying in the drama, the revenge didn’t happen, because korean law basically sides and helps the criminal if they are a minor (if you are a minor in korean, below a certain age you can’t get any punishment, and above a certain age before age of majority you can only get up to 2 years in juvenile detention and then you don’t get any time after [even if you commit unaliving someone else])
Thank you for reaching to this show! It's my favorite Kdrama of all time, one of my favorite dramas of all time! I think i may have told you that tho lol. It was extremely hard for me to get through episode 1, but after that I was okay. For context, in South Korea, bullying wasn't brought to light really until a few years ago (mid-2010s). There are many stories like this, maybe not quite this awful..... Also corporal punishment was pretty prevalent in school. I believe the act forbidding it was passed in 1997 or so? And even then it was barely followed until many years later. Anyway, I would like to again thank you for reacting to this show!
If I’m not wrong, the reason why the principal hit her and did nothing about the bullying is 1) physical punishment was kinda allowed at that time in schools 2) Sk is a country HIGHLY based on hierarchies, so yeah the bullie’s parents are rich and powerful so everyone below them will do anything to grace them and try hard to not be on get on their bad side
and the real life bullying victim was also burned very much like in the show and still carrries scars today and shes been a on a few korean variety shows talking about it after the show came out
If you want to watch KDramas here's my two recommendation: Flower of Evil, a crime drama, and it's one of the best show I watched overall not just KDrama. Also, there's Attorney Woo, that's a really great feelgood legal drama about a female lawyer with ASD.

I was just going to take a break from the school violence theme after watching "Weak Hero Class 1" like 3 times in a row. But I know this show is super popular, I love the lead actress, and Kdramas excel at so many themes and I know how well they do dark/slow vengeance plots so I'm probably going to love this show too
The Glory is amazing. My husband and I loved it. Masterful acting by everyone involved. The worst part is that I'm pretty sure the bullying was based on something that really happened to someone.

A lot of what happens in this show is based on famous cases that have happened in real life, and is through the lense of another countries culture and its relationship with bullying and violence in general, and its a significant problem in South korea, and one that hasnt been adressed properly, as you saw even the law failed to help her

@xvii_medusa_xvii no its clearly not, most bullying does not get that far due to law and social reasons, people may be bullied for not being popular and a vague heirachry, in Asia hierarchy is more rigid and pronounced, in the west adults or police would be more likely to have gotten involved due to the extremity of the case, and the fact they were doing it so openly
@@Yasmine11011no it doesn’t, in Korea they don’t prosecute minors for their crimes… for the worst crimes every you can get a maximum sentence of 2 years in juvenile detention with community service, and your crimes won’t go on record, it will be like it never happened

Also schools here do not tolerate this kind of violence, there was this bullying incident that occurred in 2018, when a student physically bullied a schoolmate inside the bathroom of the campus. The incident was captured on video and was met with widespread shock and outrage on social media, with local celebrities, politicians, and netizens denouncing the incident. Soon the government expanded the anti-bullying law of 6 years imprisonment and a fine of 2,000 dollars.

There are a couple of true stories this was based on. First is that there was a girl burned with an iron repeatedly and her father blamed her for the bullying. Then in Japan a man waited 13 years before attempting a revenge in which he was going to poison his classmates and blow them up too.
The 1st scene with the adult bully in her room being hit with the stapler was imagined by Dong-eun (the victim).
I was bullied not only by fellow students, but by some teachers as well, my Science teacher in particular. He was a cold hearted ex Airforce Pilot who treated his class like he was still in the service, and expected nothing but perfection, and if you're anything short of that, youre a nobody. One time he said to the class that after we were done with a test, we could either lay our heads down or read a book, so after I finished my test, i pulled out a Harry Potter book from my book bag. Next thing i know Mr Perfect walked up to me and said "What do you think you're doing?" I said what he said we could do after we were done, and he said "I never said you could read, put that book away!" Noone in class backed me up on it. Not to mention that sane teacher also pulled me outside alot with the doir open and lectured and humiliated me in front of my classmates all the time to the point that i was holding back tears. It was for completely unreasonable reasons as well. He didn't do this to any of the students that were actual bad seeds, but to the student that wasn't that good at Science and who did everything he asked. Instead of encouraging me and helping me get better, he straight up bullied me.
That’s how he encouraged you. That’s how you get encouraged in the military. At least in the past. You completely misunderstood his intentions. That’s the problem with this generation. You all excepting to be treated like little babies and want to get spoiled and cuddled.

@@luckyblue2758 it’s a problem everywhere, yes, but the issue with korea is the social culture and laws side with the bully.
In the korean language alone there is a systemic way to talk to people based on social hierarchy. This means the way you talk to someone older than you is way different than someone younger than you, not just tonely, but there are grammatical differences. Even if someone is only a year older than you, you have to treat them like they are a higher being than you.
I’ll explain through schools (since this is where some of the most severe cases of Korean bullying occur). Often cases the bully is an upper class men, if not they are considered “higher” than the victim due to factors such as economic social standing (how wealthy their family is). This strict social and linguistic rule to respect your elders and superiors comes back from confucianism. Because this economic social standing comes first, even though the students are younger than the teachers, if they (or their families) have more social power than the teachers, they are the superiors.
This in itself would cause intense bullying, but the legal system doesn’t help.
In South Korea, if you are younger than 10 you can’t be charged for any crime you commit… it doesn’t matter how severe the crime was, even if it was unaliving someone you would get nothing.
10-13 can be tried under Juvenile court if the case is ‘severe enough’ which really doesn’t mean anything since that means each judge gets to decide.
Once you are 14-19 you are charged under Juvenile court. Once you are 20 you are charged under the criminal act (essentially as an Adult)
The reason this is insane is because if you are charged under the Criminal Act you can face maximum of 20 years imprisonment (due to Korean laws working in a unique way, they don’t stack crimes, they take the worst sentence and that’s what you serve, so if you unalived like 8 people in a brutal way, you wouldn’t get 8 sentences back to back, only 1 sentence for your worst crime). But if you are charged under the Juvenile Act, the most severe punitive action you can get is two years of incarceration at a juvenile detention center and community service without a criminal record.
this intersection of legal systems and social hierarchy results in some of the most severe cases of school bullying in the world. Alongside social pressure for perfection from every human within Korea results in South Korea having one of the highest rates of self-unaliving in the world (in 2019 it was the 4th highest by country). And Suicide is the number one cause of death among South Koreans aged 10 to 39

The bullying with the iron actually happend in south korea.. As per a report by the Korea Herald, the bullies would ask the victim for money. When this demand wasn’t met, they would hit her with a baseball bat, burn her with a curling iron, scratch her chest with a barrette, or even abuse her with fists and feet. The victim noted that her wounds had no time to heal since the abusers would burn her body every other day to check the temperature of the hair curler. They also, reportedly, peeled her healing scabs as punishment. The abuse eventually led to a protruded tailbone and a six-week hospitalisation. This lasted around three weeks.
What I found crazy was that a Korean youtuber reacting to this, at seeing the scene of the professor slaping her, said 'ah yeah, I've seen this happen at my school'. She said it with such a naturality like it was normal. Crazy
Corporeal punishment was legal until like a decade ago, I’m sure the US isn’t far from bringing it back

The country I’m from, corporal punishment was a thing in the early 2000’s. I once saw a teacher smack a kid with what was like an actual whip as a form of punishment in front of the entire class.
I'm glad you're watching another Kdrama! Kdramas are incredible. Just a tip for watching subbed - there is a "English subtitles" setting & "English CC" setting. Make sure you're always watching Kdramas with the "English SUBTITLES" setting (NOT "English CC") bc the English CC is not the translation but it is actually the closed captioning for the English DUBBING (which often is not the exact translation; they often change the wording to fit the dubbing better, so it is not exactly what the screenwriter actually wrote or what the actor actually said. This was esp terrible with Squid Game - the English CC translation was bad!)

Sadly, Asian Boss interviewed people on the streets about the legitimacy of this bullying in South Korea and many agreed and others said that it could be worse than this in some cases 😢

Now that I think about it, my biggest bully from middle school got arrested for breaking into an elderly, yes elderly woman's house trying to rob the place thinking the lady wasn't home because it was a Sunday morning and the dumba** thought she was at Church.

I'm so glad you guys are reacting to this show! The Glory is one of my favorite k-dramas I have watched this year. So many people I know have watched it, and they have all agreed that this first episode is one of the hardest ones to watch (my mom almost stopped watching because she hated the scene with the teacher so much!). For me the most tragic thing about Dong-eun's story is how all the adults in her life failed to protect her. I hope you enjoy this story!
I remember my school bully being scrawny and boney. He would mentally torment me any chance he got, but he wasn't the biggest issue. The biggest issue was the teachers and even the principal and vice principal didnt do much about it. One time they had both of us stay on separate sides of the (I guess you could call it a playground), but did that stop him, Hell no. One day I had enough and smacked him across the back of his headand knocked his glasses off. Of course a student ratted me out and i was sent to the principals office. She and the vice principal called my mom, who just laughed, i remember the vice saying "Ma'am this isn't a laughing matter." Then i could here my mana say over the phone "Yes it is, we told you something like this would happen." I got OSS (Out Of School Suspension) for 3 days while the bully got 1 or 2 days of ISS (In School Suspension)
From what I understand, righteous vengeance against awful bullies (who are normally wealthy and connected) is a common topic in Korean fiction. I wished I had a stress-ball when I watched this episode.

This was truly a well done series. You can tell that the team behind it really put thought, effort, and passion into this project. It's a great example of how powerful writers are as a core part of the creative team. It's a shame that the strike is something that writers felt pushed to do because it's such a simple solution if you value the work they do. Basic respect and reasonable compensation is the least they can do for those folks.

Growing up, I was bullied my entire childhood. Every day at school, I had multiple people in my year just push me around, grab and throw me, spit in my food, push chairs out as I tried to sit down, kick me, steal from me, pour paint in my hair. One time a kid threw a sharpened pencil that it went into my head and caused bleeding (only the tip, not like, a vampire stake or anything.) ... Most, if not all of these kids honestly, had no real background, or personal story. They came from good homes, had good friends... But they were just horrible for the sake of it. Power, entertainment, twisted understanding. They KNEW it was bad, yet they did it anyway... So, sadly, while it's nice to think bullies have some sort of reason to do this, personally or mentally, a lot of bullies do not.
This show does have slightly one-sided bullies, at least during the kid flashback scenes. But as someone with experience, that is how asshole kids can be.
I agree that often bullies just bully for the sake of it. Cos of mob mentality or wanting to look cool, or simply bc its how they entertain their pathetic selves. But just bc you think you know whats going on in the life of a bully, doesn't mean you do. (Not that it makes any difference to the victim, nor does it excuse the bully's actions)
I haven't seen it, but I'm wondering if she told the bullies what they're dreams are as foreshadowing that she's gonna take every single one of them away from them. Like her idea of revenge isn't deleting any of them, but making them taste the same despair she did in THAT way so they'll continue to suffer or decide to delete themselves for her. Either way, I thought it was a great reaction from you guys and can't wait to watch more alongside you three!
I'm so glad you guys are watching this show! It's brilliant, and still so effective no matter how many times I have seen it. Watching you guys react to it my anger at the characters rose all over again, despite already knowing how the show progresses.
I was bullied in school (no where near as badly as the main character here) and it did include some physical bullying, such as a boy running up behind me and hitting me over the head with a large stone, or having someone jump on my back and scratch my face, nearly blinding me in one eye. So the bullying scenes do trigger me particularly. It's only counselling that has helped me to move on from what happened, helping me see it from another angle, I have not forgiven them, but I have moved on. This show really helps to show how bullying affects the victim in every aspect of their life. As harrowing as this show can be, we absolutely need more like it.

the nurse actually did try to help her but she had no actual power to do anything and no one else cared. it's truly tragic that this drama is based on a true incident of bullying in South Korea. ❤
the curling iron thing was actually inspired by real thing that happened and the girl came on a show a talked about it and the teacher hitting students was too much her but its actually a thing in korea
This drama gets very heavy sometimes and even though ep 1 spends the most time exploring the characters as high school students during the bullying, there are very sudden, pretty graphic flashbacks as well so be prepared for that.
Otherwise, this show is so good and so worth the watch. The female lead and the second lead are both badass, the supporting cast is so convincing and absolutely killed their roles and the plot and how Dong Eun’s revenge comes to fruition is pretty phenomenal. I know that you guys are going to have a blast watching this!

There are5 bullies, including the basketball kid. 2 guys 3 girls. There's even a power dynamic within the group.
Fun fact (not really): this k drama is based on a true story, and the bullying in the glory is actually a slightly watered down version of what the real victims experienced.
I’ve watched so many podcasts and youtube videos that break down the actual case and it’s insanely heartbreaking… the revenge isn’t real but the experience of being bullied like that was true if not watered down… it’s so sad

Wrong, the revenge was inspired by a real case as well, but from Japan. The guy planned it all out for over 13 years. He failed because his mother found his journal and called the police. Since his plan was to kill over 40 people, which included the bullies, the teachers and the other classmates. He got charged with attempted murder and terrorism.
@@Ateezwooyoung that’s a different case, and it’s possible that’s the inspiration, i’m saying that in the case of the curling iron and other korean cases that seem to be the inspiration for the bullying in the drama, the revenge didn’t happen, because korean law basically sides and helps the criminal if they are a minor (if you are a minor in korean, below a certain age you can’t get any punishment, and above a certain age before age of majority you can only get up to 2 years in juvenile detention and then you don’t get any time after [even if you commit unaliving someone else])
Thank you for reaching to this show! It's my favorite Kdrama of all time, one of my favorite dramas of all time! I think i may have told you that tho lol. It was extremely hard for me to get through episode 1, but after that I was okay.
For context, in South Korea, bullying wasn't brought to light really until a few years ago (mid-2010s). There are many stories like this, maybe not quite this awful..... Also corporal punishment was pretty prevalent in school. I believe the act forbidding it was passed in 1997 or so? And even then it was barely followed until many years later.

If I’m not wrong, the reason why the principal hit her and did nothing about the bullying is 1) physical punishment was kinda allowed at that time in schools 2) Sk is a country HIGHLY based on hierarchies, so yeah the bullie’s parents are rich and powerful so everyone below them will do anything to grace them and try hard to not be on get on their bad side

What a great surprise, I love this show
and the real life bullying victim was also burned very much like in the show and still carrries scars today and shes been a on a few korean variety shows talking about it after the show came out

If you want to watch KDramas here's my two recommendation: Flower of Evil, a crime drama, and it's one of the best show I watched overall not just KDrama. Also, there's Attorney Woo, that's a really great feelgood legal drama about a female lawyer with ASD.

But I know this show is super popular, I love the lead actress, and Kdramas excel at so many themes and I know how well they do dark/slow vengeance plots so I'm probably going to love this show too

The Glory is amazing. My husband and I loved it. Masterful acting by everyone involved. The worst part is that I'm pretty sure the bullying was based on something that really happened to someone.
