You can hear the smokers coughs, & ppl hacking during the news conference. Saying they switched from cigarettes to pipes, how did they think that was gonna make it any better?
@@gingerjiffy3368 it's relative, cigarettes have a mouth, throat and lung cancer (worst by far), and you inhale it to lungs, it's extremely addictive also, pipes use pure tabacco without additives, it is safer, vapes and nicotine pouches aren't completely safe either, but better than the alternative.
On the one hand, CBS News was VERY brave to present this report on the Surgeon General's findings concerning smoking and cancer. On the other hand, at the time, CBS was dependent on cigarette advertising for profitable ad revenue-- especially from Philip Morris, P. Lorillard Tobacco and American Tobacco.....three of the network's biggest advertisers {and Philip Morris was one of the sponsors of "THE CBS EVENING NEWS WITH WALTER CRONKITE" at the time}. You think they appreciated this kind of reporting? CBS had to walk a fine line about what was being reported here and their sales department- eventually, all cigarette advertising was banned from radio and TV by the government, effective January 2, 1971...............
I know its an addiction but seeing the effects on my own mother who had nearly died and was lucky to get a lung transplant how anyone can continue to smoke I don't know.
US General Surgeon, Luther Terry. He was my grandpa's 1st cousin out of Red Level, Alabama.

Pure tobacco vs all the additives in cigarettes. Doesn’t necessarily save them, but if compared yeah it’s better.
Pipe tobacco is not inhaled, it's much much safer
@@WarThug13 it still has a high risk of mouth and throat cancers

This is 2018 and some how we still got people smoking in America!
60 years later, not enough has bern done to eliminate smoking
I read Dr. Luther Terry himself smoked cigarettes (probably Camel) but switched to a pipe after that report was completed.
Harry Reasoner himself basically cut his life short as a chain smoker. Sad.
He had lung cancer, but he died from a blood clot following a fall in his home. He died in 1991 at the age of 68.
Yes, that is true. He certainly did not help his health by smoking, but I forgot about the blood clot. Great journalist who isn't remembered enough.
So, I'm confused. How did 'he' cut his life short?

Ironically I'm having a cigarette while watching this but I do plan on quitting smoking cigarettes by the new year in 2022... Wish me luck 🙏🚭🤙
13:51.... No intention of legislation what so ever. A waste of time and money.

Congratulations
lung❤️cancer
Voting for Democrats has led to many times the deaths than has tobacco. They should have warning labels placed on them.
