I use that on my 2006 Corolla every 1 to 2 years to keep them totally clear and free of haze. Works like a charm. I just use the drill buffing pad and a lot more polishing past then that guy uses (about 20 times more) and it works fast and easy. I use a variable speed drill at half speed, that way the polishing paste doesn't get flung out from the spinning pad because the pad spins more 'slowly'. Every now and then during the process, I take a wet shop rag, wipe down the headlight, and see what area needs more polishing, then continue with the polishing. After about 10 to 15 minutes the headlight is in new-like condition and good for another year or two of use. Unlike using sandpaper, this process is impossible to do wrong, no risk of doing any damage to the plastic surface. No need for clear coating, the surface of the plastic is left perfectly clear by the buffing/polishing pad alone. I guess you could put a clear coat on the surface of the plastic, but why bother when this polishing method is so easy and simple.
I love plastic x. Greatest product ever. I used it on my Toyota Paseo headlights and taillights and now they look like new again, and I still have a lot of product left. I got my best comment because they where selling a headlight restoration product around my local malls parking lot and the guy looked at my car and said "These are still new". LOL
@lc2dae yes! this is a medium option, more aggressive than hand applied, but less aggressive than our new Heavy Duty Headlight kit that does include foam finishing discs to sand with.
@myztichydra yes it is reusable and includes the product, drill pad, and towel. If you want more aggressive you can use the Meguiar's professional one that has sand paper. :D
I really need an answer, would retrofit these kind of headlights(such lenses) with projectors work out normal ? I mean all the car with projectors has plastic crystal clear lens ?
does this kit include everything but the drill right? and is this reusable i was thinking about doing this for my fathers car which are worse than those headlights its practically yellow
@DaleStiles thats the drivers side headlight that has the spider crack not the passenger which he did the polish on. He probably just did another 5050 on that side
@UnstableCore its just an old vehicle in bangkok that we found. it has oxidation problems and is faded from the sun, rain and extreme environmental impacts.
i hav same exact car but with those clear glass lights and theyr very dirty both nside n out. the silver surface on inside is also n bad condition so light doesnt reflect well
Use gear lube it works great because i used on my car and it lasted months and also it is cheep and to make it last longer take the gear lube off after the headlights are treated then apply a clear coat.
I polished my Chrysler Voyager Head Lights with 1200 grit W&D with soap and water, ONLY along the length of the light, then 2000 Grit and finally 3500. Then towelling polishing cloth with Mequiar's Heavy Cut Cleaner followed by fine cut cleaner and finally a compound similar to the Headlight and plastic restorer. My headlights are now as they were new, $20 in polish and Abrasive Paper worth every bit. NEVER in circles (Never use machine polishing IMHO it leaves swirl craze marks)
@Liberaltedjo to dry use a microfiber drying towel...G220 with Ultimate compound will be the strongest combination to remove defects...swirlx is the least aggressive consumer cleaner. microfiber towels should be put with only microfiber towels with normal clothing soap and air dried or machine dry with no drying towel.
@carguy379 On my car, as long as the scratch doesn't penetrate the clear coat itself, it will work fine. But if the scratch is paint deep then its ineffective.
@DawgcityClev toothpaste buffing works but it sure ain't no natural conconction given the chemicals in that paste. The abrasive nature of the toothpaste will work as a 3000-4000 sanding paper but it won't protect the lense in the coming weeks/days. Use a wax or a seal to protect your plastic lense from UV light and ozone. Plastics will get discolored when exposed to sunlight unless protected
@Liberaltedjo 1. PlastX can remove light to moderate defects 2. Gold class gives more of a wet look and is a shampoo and conditioner while NXT is a shampoo 3. Gold class is a blend of synthetic and carnuba wax and NXT 2.0 is going to give the best protection and is a pure synthetic wax and contains hydrophobic technology G220 DA's are available outside the USA
polish* ... and @lc2dae suggested sanding it down with 2000 grit wet sandpaper, and if you're doing a deep restoration, that's exactly where to start. plastic headlights go to looking brand new with meguiar's when done properly.
why you doing all this work and stay almost same 1st wet sand it 400g and then 2000g and clear code it become like new the job you do its for 1 month and go back same
+joseph sayegh Yeah I would combine his beginning up to and including the buffing paste, with the ending from ChrisFix about the clear coat and a final wet sanding or buffing, and then wax it.
Hi everybody :) Somebody would be so kind and explain why almost all the car manufacturers switched to the plastic headlamps?...(???) I still driving rather old car that has glass made headlamps and was shocked when discovered that all the new cars I have checked have sort of SOFT, easy to scratch plastics. Has anybody got less injured during impact with such a headlamp or car got substantially lighter?.... What was the reason for such an downgrade?
If it was glass this polish compound probably would not even work because it couldn't cut the glass to effectively polish. Youd just be basicly cleaning the glass.
I'd look into Pittman's Onestep deoxidizer, simply wipes it away in seconds and UV safe and non abrasive so it wont turn em yellow over time. just search pittmanautocare.
As a professional detailer, I can honestly tell you that method is only going to last about 3 months, that's a ripoff for customers. Do it the right way and get you some 2000 or 3000 grit sanding paper and a bottle of water, sand off the top yellow layers till lens has a cloudy film appearance then buff with a mild compound then a good wax and add clear coat
I have just recently done this to my Ford Falcon AU lights , results are excellent and the real costs were about $5 to do both headlamps , the right tools and buffing compound are important , job took less than an hour all up , I wet rubbed with 2000 grit wet and dry paper , then with toothpaste , finished off with a drill mounted soft buff and blue buffing compound , make sure the lights are clean before you start
Yep does not last at all i do this to my lights all the time on my beater and follow with a wax. It lasts a couple months and looks crappy again but on an older daily driver im not to worried about it just want to see. BUT this does work and will make your lights clear again just not a permanent solution.
I did min prior to my last post , they have not degraded at all , in the last few months , I park outside all the time , I did mine by cutting the degraded surface back with 2000 grit wet&dry paper (wet rub under running water) I then got my drill mounted buffing mop out and used some buffing compound ( Blue ) and buffed across and then top to bottom , results are still excellent , hand buffing will not give you these results , I did use some Carnuba Car polish to seal the surface after the polishing was done
+SONY THE DETAILER = That's funny, I use this same method and my headlights stay great for about a year, and that's with the sand-blasting effect of sand and salt on our Canadian winter roads. Its so easy to just take out the drill, put on the buffing pad, then have a go at it for a few minutes = its almost as easy as filling the car with gas. However, I did find something called Meguiar's Headlight Protectant that is supposed to help keep the lights from getting hazy. You have to re-apply the stuff every month, and to me its just easier to re-polish the headlights every year rather than protecting them every month.
1000 grit 2000 grit 3000 grit then plasix x or i heard tooth paste works too. i used the plastic x but ive heard good things about toothpaste too, lol ppl will do anything to save 3 bucks
I use that on my 2006 Corolla every 1 to 2 years to keep them totally clear and free of haze. Works like a charm. 2:47 "Allo-allo, what's goin' on ere then, sunshine?!"

I got my best comment because they where selling a headlight restoration product around my local malls parking lot and the guy looked at my car and said "These are still new". LOL
I didn't even know that headlights can get that yellow, the end result looks simply amazing!
@lunasicc916 this product is for light to medium defects. If you are sanding, you want our pro headlight kit.
Looks like a good addition to the product line
does this kit include everything but the drill right? and is this reusable i was thinking about doing this for my fathers car which are worse than those headlights its practically yellow
Pastx....can you use that on an ipod screen? that would be sweet.
Wait, do all headlights turn yellow after a long time? Including new 2011 vehicles? The material seems so different than older materials.
can for plastic use plastX ? if plastic not weight damage ? can use by hand ?
@DaleStiles thats the drivers side headlight that has the spider crack not the passenger which he did the polish on. He probably just did another 5050 on that side
where did you get that polishing wheel from?
do they sell this at walmart?and whats the reason for putting teh yellow tape in the middle?
Nice video. Thanks for showing how it's done!
HD would really help bring out the true finish this kit offers.
Gold class gives more of a wet look and NXT gives better protection. Yes, Daniel is an expert in Indonesia for Meguiar's.
@UnstableCore its just an old vehicle in bangkok that we found. it has oxidation problems and is faded from the sun, rain and extreme environmental impacts.
what kind of drill did you use?
would this not work better if you rubbed it down with 2000 grit sandpaper to remove corrosion prior
What kind of polish liquid would u recommend? I'm a college student on a budget and i need to clean my camaro's headlights. :/
i think for plastic headlight is the best sandpaper 1000, 2000... 5000 and than polish paste?
if drying use what ? PVA chamois ? i have AION chamois, if i buy G220 and swirlX can remove 100% ? how to wash microfiber towel ?
I used this product and another one from 3M. 3M will work better if the lens are really beaten down by weather. I will test them again on my BMW.
will this work with my canon camera lens?
sooo, if black car more good if use gold class yea ? soo black ? if NXT for high gloss, right ?
u know indonwsia meguiar's bos ? daniel
do they sell this at walmart?
i hav same exact car but with those clear glass lights and theyr very dirty both nside n out. the silver surface on inside is also n bad condition so light doesnt reflect well
@DawgcityClev it actually does, because its mildly abrasive, but it has to be paste, not gel or else it'll just make your lights smell good haha
@meguiarsasia i have this the first time i used the drill attachment it shred itself into alot of fibres and i had to get it off my car
@undertake782 if the plastic is exposed to UV rays and sunlight...yes over time it will turn yellow....especially in very sunny environments
this headlight seems made of GLASS ! I aint blind
@lunasicc916 you could use 1000 or 1200 and plastic x or fine compound
@BlueDemonGTR the backing plate came from the headlight kit
What will happen if i don't remove the tag?
so will this work in USA?
people said PVA chamois can make swirl,
i believe in u meguiar's, if megs water magnet that's very good for drying ?
Use gear lube it works great because i used on my car and it lasted months and also it is cheep and to make it last longer take the gear lube off after the headlights are treated then apply a clear coat.
How long does the application last?
About 8 weeks if you’re lucky
If you want the cheapest wax Meguiar's offers, it would be our consumer cleaner wax that polishes, protects and a bit of cleaning.
but no problem if i only have swirl use ultimate compound ?
if use likes PVA chamois no problem ?
Hello, I live in Istanbul, Turkey. Can I order these set with credit card ? Could you send it by cargo ?
That's amazing!!!
I polished my Chrysler Voyager Head Lights with 1200 grit W&D with soap and water, ONLY along the length of the light, then 2000 Grit and finally 3500.

NEVER in circles (Never use machine polishing IMHO it leaves swirl craze marks)
And what about glass lights? Like golf mk3?
That is glass lights in the video
@Liberaltedjo yes plastx is to be used on plastic parts
yes, the best is to use microfiber drying towel.
@Liberaltedjo to dry use a microfiber drying towel...G220 with Ultimate compound will be the strongest combination to remove defects...swirlx is the least aggressive consumer cleaner. microfiber towels should be put with only microfiber towels with normal clothing soap and air dried or machine dry with no drying towel.
to można zrobić zwykłą pastą ścierną do karoserii np. Tempo:)
can use wax or rubbing compound and drill away
I WILL HAVE TO GET THIS DONE
@carguy379 On my car, as long as the scratch doesn't penetrate the clear coat itself, it will work fine. But if the scratch is paint deep then its ineffective.
@DawgcityClev toothpaste buffing works but it sure ain't no natural conconction given the chemicals in that paste. Does your toothpaste offer UV-protection?
On my Corolla which is the same exact model as that one, it's glass... On the newer ones, it's plastic...
I can do that with tooth past on glass which is what they are polishing and it won,t cost £20 quid at halfords
good job man
@speedmasteruk1 i used to have that exact car it's thick plastic u can tell when u knock on it
if you used a light sanding paper like 2500 or 3000 preferably. Really if you are sanding you should use our professional headlight kit.
@UnstableCore i really wanna see u doing that soap and water, make a video and see if it come out the same -.-
you need to protect it just like you would your car paint
@Liberaltedjo
1. PlastX can remove light to moderate defects

G220 DA's are available outside the USA
I use polisher and brasso for the MOT ever year
@UnstableCore it doesnt actually. you need polish and sometimes even sandpaper to remove it
polish* ... and @lc2dae suggested sanding it down with 2000 grit wet sandpaper, and if you're doing a deep restoration, that's exactly where to start. plastic headlights go to looking brand new with meguiar's when done properly.
no problem

@lunasicc916 Wet sand with 1000 vertically then 2000 horizontally, then use this and it will look perfect!
@UnstableCore a real scratch will not be removed with just soap and water
the problem is with sanded headlight !! no Meguiars product can remove that unless you scrub it with a sandpaper .
u have facebook ?
i've NXT now, but i want to try gold class, gold class pasta / liquid ? for best result
well finally, someone had washed the headlights ...
Hi everybody :)

That headlight is glass not plastic
Toyota Camry its plastic.
Its a Toyota AE101, its plastic. I've got the same :)
If it was glass this polish compound probably would not even work because it couldn't cut the glass to effectively polish. Youd just be basicly cleaning the glass.
If it was glass you wouldn't ever need polishing compound.
It's not a headlight, it's a headlight cover.
Have it and i love it
@badlamb yes
That's a GLASS HEADLIGHT! The title is missleading.
You can get the same results with wd40 with 1 wipe... but of course it drys out.. Toothpaste works the same as this and cost way less...
yes

Why does the music sound something from an 80's crime drama?
Where was the plastic headkight?
SE PUEDE UTILIZAR PULIMENTO DE CARRO QUE SEA SUAVE , EL BLANCO Y CUALQUIER CERA DE CARRO NO OCUPAS NADA ESPECIAL
this is a no name Thailand drill..... its best to use a plug in drill like a black and decker.
to make them better and more perfect, yes....usually sanding is for professionals...this is a consumer item.
toothpaste does, but you have to use generic normal toothpaste or with baking soda in it , non of the whitening stuff
@gone911helloWRX Toothpaste on headlights? LOL What brand? I'll throw that in my book of natural detailing concoctions. Natural lemon removes rust!!
Sean Brown u absolutely wright.Sand paper, compound and job done.Cheap and easy.Clip is jus an advert, expesive stuff not worth it.
Produkty do polerowania plexi na verad pl
on this lens in germany are forbidden an illegal... only on clear glas allowed!
1000 grit 2000 grit 3000 grit then plasix x or i heard tooth paste works too. i used the plastic x but ive heard good things about toothpaste too, lol ppl will do anything to save 3 bucks
No, your replying to a comment I made about how dirty this car is.
if the board has plastic on it, yes
i just replace a new plastic headlights..so simple
and recycle the old one because you're not a barbarian
great
