  • Understanding the problem is more than half the battle. Once you understand what causes your breaks to seize up, it’ll be a lot easier to fix.

Great video man. I just installed front brakes/rotors. they're dragging a bit so I'm giving it your 3 point check. I had a slide pin that looked like yours...wishing now I had replaced it not polished it up.

Wow, yesterday I joined the "wtf is smoke pouring out from behind my tire" club. Nice to see I have loads of company. I was wondering if it were possible I could fix this myself versus sending to a shop. Video really helpful understand some of the reasons going on.

The guide pin has refused to come off of my brake caliper bracket. I kept wondering why I kept seeing smoke on my passenger side for months now. Just found out the piston and guide pins were seized. $600+ is about to go down the drain. Thanks for the video.

I did it and one caliper it seemed locked up. Pins were cleaned and move great.
I bled the caliper and now it seems like it’s better but rotor still hot to touch.
Do you have to bleed brakes with new pads? These are back disc brakes on Chevy Silverado 1500 with drum emergency brake.
I think it’s ok now. It rolls nice in neutral. On slight incline driveway it rolls back. I think the bleeding worked I guess. I’ll see if they get hot again to where it had bad burning smell. Bad.

I bought a used honda jazz (2012) and the disc brakes look the same. Rusty. But the brakes work well. Should I be worried with how rusty it is?

I have a 2001 Ford Explorer and the brakes seem fine, they are not binding because I can push the car very easily and they feel to work very good, but if I am going down a steep long road the brakes burn and smoke pours of them. Any ideas what could be the problem and could it be just poor quality brake pads as I do not know what brand is in it because I have only had it 6 months. Thanks.

This is a great video; I know to check and correct these things. Guide pins, slides, pads, rotors all look great, but brakes overheat at hwy speeds on an old '01 Nissan Quest. The tires start vibrating and rims are too hot to touch. I checked the reservoir and it is at the top fill line. Brake pedal properly retracts. Only happens when it's over 90F out and after 30min on the hwy. Gas mileage good. Both front rims get equally super hot. Brakes look to be in immaculate condition. Has to be something lightly pressurizing the front brake lines doesn't it? What could do this?

...switched from wagner powerstop pads to a cheap metalic pad and the problem vanished.

According to him it’s just time to start thinking about it 😅. In all seriousness though, the “new” caliper would just be a rebuild. That cleaned up pin easily has several more years. If it’s a customer’s then yeah. Replace it all.
