Thanks for the extra effort to get this one pushed through! It is much better than the chipmunks version, lol. I was surprised that it had to be altered in the first place. Been a while since I have seen that happen.
I've said it before and I'll say it again...what did you do on your 16th birthday? Because I'm sure you didn't get crucified in front of 10,000 fans at your own concert to transform yourself from a pop idol into the queen of metal!
Good traction, thanks! Nothing to see here. Just Su-metal celebrating her 16th birthday with her friends and some of their fans (like 9.000 of them) all chanting DEATH! DEATH! DEATH! DEATH!... haha... 😁 Now seriously, this is from the concert Legend 1997 (SU-METAL seitan sai) aka SU-METAL 16th birthday party and took place on December 21st, 2013 at the Makuhari Messe event hall in Chiba (Greater Tokyo Area). Lyrics are quite simple: "B-A-B-Y-M-E-T-A-L" "SU-METAL desu", "YUIMETAL desu", "MOAMETAL desu", "BABYMETAL desu" "Death death death death death death..." etc Desu (the U is silent so it sounds like the English word death, pretty much means "I am, you are, we are" so they were introducing themselves. This was usually an opening song but this time they used it as a closing number. The meaning of the whole thing is the sacrifice of SU-METAL, giving up her mortal life as a human and Idol to reborn as a metal Goddess. The beat on the intro (you got it right) and the final statue crumbling are homages to Metallica. The neckbrace thing is an homage to X-Japan's Yoshiki Hayashi. Until next time! 🤘🦊
Great reaction! The giant statue in the background which eventually crumbles at the end is an homage to Metallica"s "...And Justice For All". The neck brace is an homage to Japanese metal band, X Japan, because their drummer head banged too much that he broke/injured his neck requiring him to wear a neck brace. 🤘🦊🤘
This concert is formatted as a rock opera, which I find so cool. Overall it is the story of Su-Metal's sacrifice as a jpop idol to become a metal goddess on her 16th birthday. Of every concert they have done, this one is worth watching from start to finish just to get the entire context. They do a house version of headbanger to open, progress from very jpop to very metal, then a lament version of akatsuki and finally death. It's brilliant showmanship. I can't imagine, and am so jealous of, those who were able to be there in person. One of the videos from this concert (gimme chocolate) was the thing that went viral globally and arguably is the most important early step in their careers, went from somewhat popular in Japan to appearing on album/music charts around the world. thanks for the repost!
This is a great version of this song which is oftentimes as an opener to introduce Babymetal to the crowd - it’s a blast to watch live while they pump up the crowd. Not sure if others have pointed it out, but this song uses a play on words, with Babymetal “desu” in Japanese meaning “we are Babymetal”, while sounding to English speakers like Babymetal Death. Not the only song where they take advantage of a play on words between Japanese and English, but one of the most obvious. Thanks for the reaction 🤘🦊
Babymetal's tribute to Metallica! From the opening riffs to the crumbling statue of Su, which was an obvious nod to the And Justice For All tour that ended with Lady Justice crumbling at the end of the concert. That tour, late 80s, was pretty much the last time I listened to metal. Until now!🤘🦊🤘
Thank you for the extra effort! This is by far one of my favorite live performances of all time! Also for more heavy, absolutely take a look at *Rondo of Nightmare (Budokan 2014)* . Not only is it dark and ominous, but we also get an amazing Su-metal solo with an insane band flex. Bassist BOH shows off how to properly handle a 6-string bass too lol. 🤘🦊
For those who say BABYMETAL is not metal, I present you with BABYMETAL Death.😉 An interesting take posted on BABYMETAL REDDIT by VulpineDeity: Take it a step farther. Not only does 'SU-METAL DESU' mean she's introducing herself, it's also her super-hero transformation phrase. Like on Sailor Moon, Usagi says 'Moon Prism Power!' and turns into Sailor Moon, Suzuka Nakamoto shouts 'I AM SU-METAL' and becomes possessed by the spirit of the Fox God and transforms into the Metal Goddess SU-METAL. The magical girl who transforms into a hero is a huge trope in Japan, comparable to Disney princesses in the west. BABYMETAL DEATH! follows the trope and it's the moment that they all transform into their magical alter egos at the start of the show. 🦊 🖖 ❤

They are singing their names as a way to introduce themselves in japanese way but with the pun intended play of words: "SuMetal desu" means "I'm SuMetal" but she is trying to say "SuMetal death", same for the rest of girls with their respective names, and the rest of the song is: "B - A - B -Y - M - E - T - A - L DEATH! That's why we said all the time "notacult", unless you actually are or want to feel part of it. ;) Oh and just a note aside for anyone thinking this is disrespectful to western religion and whatnot, is not! KobaMetal explained he needed to make a bridge between fans and them so they can familiarizing with the BM concept with images the fans already knew, in this case he used the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series as a drive vehicule which is heavily influenced by christianity, kabbalah, gnosticism and even islam symbolism, imagery and iconography, the plot on this was never took as a blasphemy for any religion and it was mostly used for aesthetic reasons, same for BabyMetal, it was used to represent the "Death and Rebirth" concept of SuMetal own role persona while having a bridge between fantasy and reality, the reality is she decided to end up her idol career (death) with Sakura Gakuin and commit herself to this new rol (rebirth) as a metal queen for BabyMetal. Sorry if this sound as a rant but i just keep seeing BM fans and general people who still don't get it. Yes, and the truth isSu was empöoyed by Babymetal forore than one year and the Talent Agency Amuse wanted to change the Status of Suzuka Nakamoto. And the idea that the Idol would die was the idea.
