    The Japanese had something similar, the wakashu. Most of the famous samurai had a wakashu, a boy between around 12 and 20. Then there are the dancing boys of some Turkish cultures.

      @larscarter7406 Do you ever think that the trauma experienced by these kids is a product of OUR cultural mores? We tell them they are victims of a crime that our society thinks is worse than murder. A boy growing up in a place where such a "relationship" is considered a good way to advance in society, like Japanese wakashu, or a society where they are honoured like rock stars, like the Turks, will likely not be damaging, merely distasteful. I think our societal reaction traumatizes those boys far more than the act itself. Doesn't mean we should accept it, much less legalize it, but I think we should deal with it differently to avoid traumatizing our boys further.

      @@wfcoaker1398 maybe. A kid jumps from place to place just playing, learning and growing. They are not making lifelong decisions about anything really and are learning to accept the way things are. We usually try to teach them what's right and what's wrong as they grow up. Then someone comes along and says you've been permanently damaged and traumatized. The adults are always right so they are permanently damaged and traumatized from then on. I could be wrong though. I haven't been in that situation.

    You know, at one time in ancient history, maybe even before rome, there was a gay army that was so fearsome that it might have prevented wars from happening between city states for a long time. They all were afraid to attack it. Everyone knew that lovers would fight to the death to protect their lover. Look it up.😊

      Generations of Adults from young Adult ages at 18 always did ask that Big Million Pounds Question about Sex and ages.
      It depends on the Age of the young Adult and any younger Children under that age.

    The age of acceptable intergenerational relationships was 12 up to 17. OR ended when the kid needed his first shave (NOT a full beard!) whichever came first. These illustrations are misleading. A trove of literature and illustrations are available depicting who these boys were. Ganymede, probably the most historically recognized (A large moon is named after him) Greek boy was 12 when he was abducted by Zeus to be the cupbearer to the gods. Outside of polite social pretense about mentorship and education for these boys (one doesn't learn much as a waiter at Bachanalian fests) Ganymede was chosen for his "Great beauty" Apparently a boy so beautiful he stultified the gods. Other 12-13 year-old boys longed for a heroic man in their lives, sexual relations were a given, and parents approved if the man chosen was of good character and reputation.

      American hero John Paul Jones went to sea at the age of 12, growing up in a 100% male environment. British legend Admiral Horatio Nelson also joined the Navy at 12. Thomas Jefferson was sent to live with his tutor William Douglas, who taught Jefferson Latin, French, and the rudiments of Greek when Jefferson was nine years old.
      Many of the world's greatest champions were the product of their relationships with men as boys. This was the history of the world once - every Knight had a Squire, every ship had numerous boys, and much of Europe's economy was based on the apprentice system for the most of the trades.
      Today, in America, a man would be suspect if he showed any interest in a boy, and arrested if he said Hello. Boys are taught that men are dangerous and parents are downright paranoid regarding such relationships. And while their concerns are valid, (Thanks to the Boy Scouts and the Catholic Church.)
      Unmentored boys rarely grow up to be outstanding men in today's culture. A woman can raise a boy, but she can't raise a man. If he has no father at home, a boy will inveitably find a surrogate somehow, somewhere along the line.

    Ancient Greece was such a weird place. Fascinating, but very weird.

    • @kencowan3438
      @kencowan3438 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was not that weird... it simply preceded the Judeo-Christian antipathy to all things sexual (outside marriage). The Greek Gods were a horny group, seducing all manner of men, women and even animals (Leda and the Swan). If the Gods could have intercourse with everyone, why wouldn't the faithful follow siut?
      The Spartans were an incredible fighting force, and the secret of tehir success was that each soldeir had a lover who fought beside him in battle. This motivated tehm to fight harder to protect their loved ones;
      Alexander teh Great's two major love interests were both male... he was married three times, but twice it was with cnoquered peoples as a ay to cement the loyalty of a beaten foe, and thethird was his Greek wife who was thereto give him an heir ot the throne.
      What is truly weird is how moodern societies preach that same-(sex relatons, especially with adolescents, is not only illegal but harmful to the young. They never seem to grasp teh fact that for centuries the ancients had such dallainces and nobody seems to have been traumatized at all.

    Well, Ancient Greece was a males society, with women confined to the home and actually unavailable for sex outside marriage. It was also a warriors society in which military and physical training was central. The young men / older men relationship was part of this training, in which each young trainee at about 16 would be mentored by an older guy of 20+, while case of much older men having young boyfriends was apparently much more limited. The young trainee/mentor relationship was not always sexual and, when it was, it could limited to touching of jerking off (spartan were apparently particularly prude) but here too we don’t really know the proportion of these relationships which were also really sexual. Now my personal view is that maybe what was specific to Greek culture was the obsession with the male body because it was a warriors society practicing heavy and constant military training. Their there is a sort of esthetic view on the mal body, which is different to a sexual view of it, which is why it is probable that not the many relationships were sexual, even taking into account the unavailability of women. We also need to remember that to be a warrior also meant to get married and get sons to provide a new generation of warriors to the city. In truth, we don’t really know the extent of real gay sex among Greek warriors. 1 thing to be noticed is the Theban gay regiment called the Sacred Band constituted of 150 males couples was famous for being this, ie a gay army unit. That seems to tell us that, if gay relationships between warriors was respected, it was fairly unusual. Disclosure: I am gay myself

    Women are different not inferior. Yet the Greeks were right about one thing. Women use men to get what women want. If a man wants real love, or real pleasure? It takes another man to give a man these things. I feel sorry for truely heterosexual men, whom will never know just how good love and sex can be. I had my first love affair with a man, more like a Spartan. They called it abuse, but all we felt for each other was love. When he was exposed for loving me? He lost everything, was completely ostracized by his family. So, he committed suicide. I cried and cried when he died. But never dared to tell anyone why his death hurt so bad. Thirty years later, gay sex became legal. So now I'm free to take a Male lover. Only minors are treated more like animals than rational human beings. How old, does one need to be to fall in love? Pediophila is a mental illness, it's not love. There are lots of lovers who have a significant age difference. What's right about treating minors, more like pets than people?

    There is a theory that the modern word BOY actually comes from efeboi through the Germanic word boi which apparently and with due reason originates in the Latin efeboi, and the efe portion was transmuted into effeminate, which is entirely likely.

    Adolescents do have sexuality and want to gain sexual experiences. Adolescents can be abused tricked or blackmailed by bad actors but adolescents may also benefit from a relationship with mature men. I dont consider sex between men of different ages to be inheritly sinful but it can be. And I strongly disagree with the popular view that young adults between 14 and 18 years old are "children". They are quite inexperienced but to call pedophilia relationship with someone who have pubes and masturbates daily is crazy. I believe we should leave people alone. It is their life and feelings and not our business unless there is coercion or violence involved. I am more worried about young people exposing themselves naked online without clear understanding of the consequences. The paradox is that online activities are harmless to one's body. You cant get hurt or pregnant or catch a disease. But you cant control the spread of your images and personal data. Only when we develop mechanism some kind of AI to scour the web looking for our personal data and ban it if we wish not to be seen, only then we can partially protect ourselves. Partially because data can be spread on VHS or other media outside the internet. Or may be we just need to cultivate an attitude not to care about our naked images being everywhere. But I dont think we need to abolish privacy and intimacy at the same time. So it looks like this will be a forever issue. Like abortion. Or like "god". What will happen to the young mind if they want privacy but get exposed to the internet. How are they gonna deal with it. This is an issue i am more concerned about.

      Yes, most certainly - especially among Patrician families. 12-year-old boy prostitutes occupied the fornixes (arches on the outside) of the colloseum with their togas hitched up at the rear to display their goods. We get the word "Fornication" from this

    • @StephenRyder-w3q

      Yes, boys were a frequent choice for sex in ancient Rome. The little guys prostituted themselves daily at the coliseum, habitating the fornices (arches) which are the outer ring of the architecture. They wore their short Togas (Toga praetexta, a white toga with a purple border worn by freeborn boys until they reached puberty. The purple border was called the latus clavus.) hitched up in the back to reveal the assets (no pun intended) available. Roman men frequented those fornices and that's where the word "Fornication" comes from. Females were also available there.

      Anyone who has reached puberty is not a "child" according to the dictionary and common sense. Post-pubescent minors have been known as "Adolescents" for hundreds of years. The word "adolescence" was first used in the 15th century.
      It comes from the Latin word adolescere, which means "to grow up or to grow into maturity".
      However, the concept of adolescence as a distinct phase of human development is credited to American psychologist G. Stanley Hall, who published his work Adolescence in 1904.
      Hall is also known as the father of Adolescent Psychology. In his work, Hall described many aspects of adolescence, including bodily growth and mood swings. MY fellow Americans, impaled on the horns of feminism, get dumber every year. Adolescents are simply the horniest people on earth - jog your guilt-ridden memories, hypocrites.

      This is why the three different terms exist: paedophile, hebephile, and ephebophile, all relating to different stages of maturity. However, in modern society they usually get bundled into one - "Paedophile."
      The etymology is always interesting, though.
      However, the principal difference is always the same. The abuse is one of power and it is the inexperience of youth, which puts them at greater risk and vulnerability. This is why both legally and morally, regardless of the apparent "attraction" or desire of the younger (weaker) of the two, it is the moral duty of the elder (the Mentor) to appropriately guide the relationship safely.
      For example, there is a huge difference between a relation between 25 year old and 30 year old (both experienced adults) compare to a 17 year old and a 12 year old, even though the number of years is the same.
      People might make comparisons with ancient Greek culture, but 2500 years is a long time for society to change value systems. Even when people harp on about "Democracy" most forget (or don't know) that all Greek Citizens were involved in it. But not all Greeks were citizens: neither slaves or women.
      And interested vid, but I agree with a comment I read that the Ai images were a little creepy in places.
