    I have been told that prepping the items you want to mould as well as the container you are pouring your silicone mould material into with mould release spray at the very start. And doing two - three layers of mould release, making sure that each layer is dry before applying the next layer. I also personally would have poured around 7-10mm of the silicone mixture into the tin before adding the plate & making sure there was enough mixture for 7-10mm on top as well to prevent tearing.
    I do like the fact that you have explained some of the mistakes you have made & how you went about changing your future process & additional tips.

      Sara Helton that is a very cool idea! I've also seen that cookie cutters with a bit of hot glue around the bottoms to seal work well for smaller items.

    • @Happilyeverafteretc
      @Happilyeverafteretc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great idea Sara, I used the cookie cutters & hot glue method for my dragonfly wind chimes! It definitely worked (and I planned to leave the resin in the cookie cutters) but if I wanted to take the resin out of the cookie cutters it would have been very hard. Try silicone cookie cutters or lots of mold release!

    Sooo just so you know liquid silicone brings solid silicone back to it's liquid form. That's why you also can't use silicone lube on silicone toys. Don't ask me how I know that 😂

    This is such a nice video..I had few failed attempts of mold making so thanks alot that u gave idea of using chunks... but tell me just mix half liquid and half chunks can give smooth result or we have to pour chunks later so we could get smooth top? Please reply

    • @Happilyeverafteretc
      @Happilyeverafteretc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just poured half liquid and half chunks and had a smooth top and smooth insides with the chunks only on the open portion of the mold (which ended up being the bottom of my mold). I was so scared everything would be chunky but it wasn't! Worked like a charm and saved me so much silicone.

    Can you make a silicon mold of a spool of thread, sewing needles and a thimble?

    • @Happilyeverafteretc
      @Happilyeverafteretc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could definitely do a spool of thread... or even a thimble but I'm not sure if the sewing needle would work. Depending on how large it was and how you arranged it... maybe. And this might not be the right product. There are TONS of different silicone's for mold making, perhaps check into which ones are right for small, detailed items. Good luck!

    • @Happilyeverafteretc
      @Happilyeverafteretc  ปีที่แล้ว

      You always want to look at the instructions for the silicone you're using... I can only give suggestions based on the one I'm using. Not every other moulding silicone on the market. I wouldn't use one with a 5 minute pouring time for a detailed piece like this...

    So excited! Just ordered mold-making stuff (I ordered from the Reynolds website as they are the same manufacture as the silicone you used, but I ordered the dragon scale type silicone, as it's supposed to tale small details better, and is translucent- it is a little more expensive than the smooth on 30, and I was able to order in a gallon size) and I also ordered a vacuum chamber degasser from Amazon to help with eliminating bubbles. Both major expenses, but I already have everything else I need to get started. Thank you for this. I'm a new subscriber, and love your channel. And I love the tip about using fail left overs as filler.
