i know that it’s been 2 years, but i have wanted to play the drums for years now. would you say the electric drums are a good way to learn them? i’ve heard some negative opinions and it’s put me off
*When I was 14 and started playing drums it was so hard to do just the simple money beat, and she did it her first day lol* I'm 27 now. Drums are awesome
@kc you should definitely do it I have been a drummer for about 10-12 months now and playing along to songs is soooo fun and your rudiments paradiddles flams singles doubles triples and you should be good to go.
Yeah, but paradiddles is not something you should teach to someone who only has less than week of experience of the drums. That could put them off from practicing, and eventually, leaving the drums completely. For the first month, they should just stick to simply 4/4 rhythms, and practice being on time.
@@MM-vs2et Well tbh she was doing really well for having only a couple of days of practice. So if she shows some talent, why not teach her a little bit more difficult technique to motivate her?
When I'm playing my 230bpm blast or skank beats, I always open my hands in order to have a bigger motion than with a closed grip while still being able to control the stick with my fingers. I agree with you to an extent but when approaching very high speeds, in my opinion, you sometimes just need to open the hands.
Emil Anwar my daughter is 6 and she’s a natural blew everyone away at how fast she got it but she EXTREMELY self conscious which makes teaching further her almost impossible and she HATES daddy (drummer) teaching her more. Which is so frustrating because she soo soo good at it so it’s a struggle to get her to practice 😞 . Yesterday she just went back on it after months of boycotting the drums lol
James James agreed. thanks, we don’t. Although be do encourage her but we don’t force her. That’s not productive and no fun will be had by anyone involved.
In an old Steve Smith video he said technique is not to make you faster but to make it easier. Very true. Take it slow and you'll eventually start surprising yourself. That will be the turning point of really enjoying drumming. You're doing great so far!
14:58-15:05 I understand. You have to multitask a bit and you have to be well coordinated! It takes a lot of practice to get that down! It’s easy to learn the drums, but hard to master, just like the guitar.
I always feel guitars are impossible to learn!! Surprised to see you say it is easy and you didn’t even mention pianos. I can’t even understand guitars lol I never tried drums. However, I always feel like I’d be better at drums because I always hear the world in beats and rhythms rather than melodies. and as an Arab I’m one of those people who like to make a beat on any hard flat surface 😆 But after watching this video and hearing about tempo and all the different movements involved in drumming, I think I may have overestimated myself 😆 my coordination is lacking and I just might poke my face with those drum sticks in my first session 😂
I've been playing drums for about 10 years now. I was definitely getting some nostalgia. Just a couple of thoughts from my perspective: 1. Your pedal feel is something you'll figure out later. Just make sure that the spring stays attached, and everything is gonna be fine! Lol. 2. If you don't like a metronome, that's totally fine. Play along to songs, cause unless we're talking about trying to play to old Zeppelin, what you're playing along to was recorded to a click. Practicing technique to one is probably more ideal, but practicing playing is better with music (in my opinion). 3. For recording your drums to your computer, you're going to need to hook them up using the USB output on the back of the module (which can also give you the ability to change the sounds of the drums on your computer after you recorded them), or you need to use recording interface to capture the audio out of the module. Unsolicited advice from someone who started on an e-kit, and who has happily moved on to the real kit. Awesome progress for the first week, though. Keep at it! We need more drummers in the world.
,,We need more drummers in the world." Back when I first started, my brother actually asked me: ,,Does the world really need another drummer?" I'm professionally playing drums for over 35 years now. But that sentence stuck.... Don't listen to crap like that.
First I thought: Damn she's cute.. and she wanna learn how to play drums.. shiiit.. Then I realized you're from Germany and I thought: Jaaaamann ne Deutsche (:
This brought a smile to my face. I first touched drums when I was 13, I was lucky and could already do this much first day well enough that I became our band drummer. That never would have happened if I had trouble keeping a beat first day. I haven't touched a drum set in over 20 years but bought an Alesis kit recently and started practicing. Right away I could still hold a beat and play so I'm teaching myself new fills, I've had many of the same looks on my face and re-do's that I see in this video. The struggle is real, don't give up, keep on drumming!
Wow, I hope that you continue drumming. It's great stress relief. It is always great to have an electronic kit inside your house or practice. Especially if you have neighbors really close. You definitely made learning the drums look easy.
Tips for improving: Start of very slowly. Everytime U learn smth new start of slow. And im saying slow! Play at 80bpm, evey damn note as slow as possible. Then go faster but in small steps. For example: 16th notes RLRL on the Hi-Hat at 80 BPM. Then 100. Then 120. Till it sounds smooth. Use a Metronom: U dont want to play Shuffles. Well at least for now. Be directly on time (Ure on time when U dont hear it) Just for knowledge, imo music sometimes requires u to be a little bit lose but as a beginner, always play to a Metronom. Watch other drummers playing: I bet ppl who are interested in playing the drums have been watching Buddy Rich. Watch him and others playing, try to think: what are they doing with foot/Leg? How are they doing? (Are they using Fingers when they are going faster on snare or wrists) how can i adjust my playing with his style? Theres so many good musicians Out there, its such a big number i cant even tell. Thats why, watch what u can find. And If its in Pornhub, u dont care - U want to improve Get to know the drums: How are (again other ppl) the Setups? Why is XY using this cymbal and not the other one? How is he using his pieces? (U can use ur rim, the middle of ur snare, the topside and downside)How does my set Work - what can i do with my Set? Schedule Always try to have a schedule. If u cant have consistency in ur practice, at least practice with ur Hands and feets at Work, during class. It will Help. Air drumming looks funny, but also helps ur coordination. And If someone tells u to stop doing weird things with ur Hands (pun intended) ask em If they can do what ure doing. They mostly cant and If thats the Case, tell em to Piss of then lol. And the most Important tip Enioy ur drums. Love it. U dont Play this because ur Mom told u to ( Well im most cases), ure playing this because u want to. Always have fun.
@@theforgedstinkeye9865 Fuck no You should improve yourself whenever you want! Waiting 11 years to end the school and being completely dumb and begin everything from the start? But if u want to do this and if you gonna live 100 years then fine

Thats a huge box and a great instrument! So much fun without disturbing anyone! Super cooles Video meine Liebe, weiter so - immer wieder eine Freude ❤️🤗👍🏻
I've been a drummer for about 6 or 7 years now and I still have trouble with the double off-beat bass drums sometimes - it can be confusing but practice makes perfect. It took me quite a while to understand how to hold the sticks and play the drums as firstly I was having a 30 minute lesson every week and took me about 4 weeks to know how to play the drums correctly rather than swinging my arms round like a lunatic. My genre of play is rock and performed in a few gigs, once with a well-known band in my town and the other with a band we formed but only played that gig as life got in the way but was great. Also, a choke is where you hit either cymbol on the grab into it tight to stop the noise - example in eye of the tiger with the beats at the start, where the crash is hit but then imiidiately stopped, that's called a choke! Great video nonetheless and you probably learned loads of techniques that I didn't learn for about 3 months!
The practising bits are so relatable! Every time I'm playing something percussive on the guitar I'm like "No. No. No. That's not it. No. Aaaaaaaaa. Why am I so stupid!" But the feeling when you finally get it right is so satisfying!
Dude, I've been drumming for about 10 years now, and I think the only gear I had for free was probably a drum key that I stole someone. This girl is starting to learn the drums and gets a full e-kit for free. Life's un-fucking-fair bruh. On the other hand, I'm really glad that there's a new drummer in this world!!! Cheers for that!
*I also play the drums and that was some amazing work there in only seven days!!!* *Btw, this is the first video that I have seen from you and I can already tell that you make some amazing video content!*
They are good for apartment playing but other than that no they arent good to learn on, you're not going to know wtf a drum key is, you're not getting natural authentic sound, you either have to have headphones or a drum amp, if you believe this is the way to learn then I'm sorry but you're horribly mistaken, electronic drums dont deserve any credit when put up against acoustic l, if you want to play drums then play the damn drums not pressure pads, sure the noise of drums can interfere with owning them depending on where you live but still fuck electric drums, good as a secondary but never as a main
I know im late to this vid so you probably wont read it, but to all the other people who are new to the drums: Move the kick drum a bit further away from you. right now your right leg is in sharp angles (knee and ankle) if you move your kick in a way that your leg doesnt have to bend like that, you wont be likely to get sore legs as fast. GOOD EFFORT THO!
I get what you're saying but by getting used to that, when it comes time to play fast using something like heel-toe where you need a 90 degree and developed legs your really going to struggle. push through in the beginning because it will make life easier later.
@@nathanhardy7008 Her angles are sharper than 90 degrees tho. look at 13:29 for example. You could get away with that if you play heel up exclusively (look at Taylor Hawkins) but for heel down thats near impossible. I personally sit a slight bit further away from my kick, (95 degrees maybe, almost right angles) and I can play as fast as I want with the slide technique. But sharp angles really wont do your shins any good, for both heel up and heel down. I can work, I just don't recommend it for beginners.
I can attest to this. I used to play for 2 years when I was 13/14 on a $200 acoustic kit. Just for fun. Now recently since I started recording my own music, i got an e-kit and started practicing with a metronome on my DAW. It took a good 2 weeks, but I finally got it down. I can go up to 200 BPM for some faster punk stuff. I don't lose the rhythm as often anymore
i remember ordering the previous version of this drumset. received this huge box and i had to get it somewhere else and i thought "damn, i gonna have to lift this huge box into my car, out of my car and up this house"... and when i finally got it there, totally exhausted i opened the box and found all those handy little seperate boxes... hated my self for not checking before xD
I got my first set 2 weeks ago and can't believe what I can do I've never played before REALLY and the kicker is I\m 65yrs old and having a hell of a good time..If you can play the drums in your head then it's comes so easy .Don't get me wrong I'll never be in a band but can still show off I only wish I started when I was younger
It is an absolutely amazing video! Thank you for sharing it, that is the journey of the drummer, very difficult but with practice and tempo, all go in time! You are trully an excellent drummer/musician self-taught. I can show it to my students how beautiful is the journey of the drummers! Thank you
Wow!!! This video takes me back! It reminded me of how I also used to (and still do) struggle with the drums. But WOW!!! I'm so happy with this video. Just SO HAPPY!
Hey!!Nice job!! The most important thing is to be happy when u play!! Do give up I'm sure if you practice and study a bit you will start discovering that meanwhile you can do things that in the beginning you've thinked that u couldn't, and that's when the long ride begins!! I ve suffer quite a lot at the beginning...some days I left my kit completely destroyed and frustrated, but takes part of the path!!! And dont last forever!! Belive me!!! Go grab that sticks!!!!
Always nice to see someone interested in playing drums. Many time tested techniques, rudiments and tricks to learn but first the basics. You can learn a lot by listening to drum parts and feeling the rhythm and beat. I do think, like anything else, aside from lots of practice, it helps to have a knack for any instrument. Some people have better timing naturally, some people are better dancers, and some are better mathematicians.
This is so cool, it’s amazing to see what you can learn in just 7 days. Thanks for the video, It really inspired me to start and I’m going to buy a drum kit in the future when I have enough money :) Thank you and all the best !!!!!!!

Ive been playing drums for 3 years. After listening to her learning this instrument (and drums is very hard), she made me appreciate this instrument even more.
Throughout this entire video I was thinking of the different techniques I've been taught, but most importantly I kept thinking ahead to the most important stuff. First I went like, "Oh gosh your pointer finger..." then you fixed it :D The next thing was the starting beat everyone learns, and I was actually impressed on how it was pretty consistent in tempo for just starting- but then it admittedly did start to fluctuate and that's when I went like "Oh where the met at?" Then you then started using it the next day. Very impressed with the progress in seven days, and you did all the correct steps to learning them properly. Admittedly I even skipped some steps when I started. huge props :)
Hey Nicole-- great work on learning how to play drums. I found your video through searching for electronic drums reviews and beginner video lessons. I can relate to what you said about always wanting to learn how to play them. I am a guitarist, but have always had drummers around to write songs with and always have appreciated their skills on their instruments. I am now in a place where I don't have a drummer and am attempting to use a trigger pad and my fingers to add drum beats. It is not going as well as I hoped-- the trigger pad sensitivity isn't what I hoped it would be. Trying to do drum rolls on the trigger pads is not sounding very realistic. I am coming to the realization that I will have to invest in an electronic drum kit to get realistic drum fills. So, I want to thank you for documenting your e-drum journey. I inspires me to take up new instruments and the challenges of learning something new. I hope you are still playing drums and enjoying it. Thanks for sharing your music journey. All the best to you.

@@MM-vs2et Well tbh she was doing really well for having only a couple of days of practice. So if she shows some talent, why not teach her a little bit more difficult technique to motivate her?
As a drummer for 13 years all I can say is. KEEP YOUR FINGERS ON THE STICK. your supposed to have a loose grip but keep your hand closed
When I'm playing my 230bpm blast or skank beats, I always open my hands in order to have a bigger motion than with a closed grip while still being able to control the stick with my fingers. I agree with you to an extent but when approaching very high speeds, in my opinion, you sometimes just need to open the hands.
I hold the tight because I hit too fast
Yes tight but loose pulses
tottally agree
TheGunCreator2 if you hold it tight, you won’t be able to hit as fast as if you were loose
When I started out, i used to practice at my pillows, and now I'm here seeing her starting out on a drum kit that's more expensive than my rent
My daughter play drums when she was five years old but now she is professional she has 14 years old keep working to be professional too ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Emil Anwar my daughter is 6 and she’s a natural blew everyone away at how fast she got it but she EXTREMELY self conscious which makes teaching further her almost impossible and she HATES daddy (drummer) teaching her more. Which is so frustrating because she soo soo good at it so it’s a struggle to get her to practice 😞 . Yesterday she just went back on it after months of boycotting the drums lol
wish. my mum got me a kit :/
James James agreed. thanks, we don’t. Although be do encourage her but we don’t force her. That’s not productive and no fun will be had by anyone involved.

@@knownbarkert6153 You're salty because I pointed out she's doing something incredibly basic. Go cry to your soy boy friends.
I can’t even understand guitars lol
I never tried drums. However, I always feel like I’d be better at drums because I always hear the world in beats and rhythms rather than melodies. and as an Arab I’m one of those people who like to make a beat on any hard flat surface 😆
But after watching this video and hearing about tempo and all the different movements involved in drumming, I think I may have overestimated myself 😆 my coordination is lacking and I just might poke my face with those drum sticks in my first session 😂
I was so confused when he started to speak German 😂😂
When she said there were different ways to hold the drumsticks I thought to myself "Dear god please don't play traditional."

Lul
Lol imagine using matched grip like a lil’ b*tch
Agree
Why not
I've been playing drums for about 10 years now. I was definitely getting some nostalgia. Just a couple of thoughts from my perspective:

Or what about actually counting? And sight reading and playing....
,,We need more drummers in the world."
Back when I first started, my brother actually asked me:
,,Does the world really need another drummer?"
I'm professionally playing drums for over 35 years now.
But that sentence stuck....

7:40 Congratulations, you are now a professional drummer that can play 100+ songs

Aw when she thought she broke the kick pedal haha,
3 years and I’m even saying uhh wut do u mean
Tips for improving:
Start of very slowly.
Use a Metronom:
U dont want to play Shuffles. Well at least for now. Be directly on time (Ure on time when U dont hear it) Just for knowledge, imo music sometimes requires u to be a little bit lose but as a beginner, always play to a Metronom.
Watch other drummers playing:
I bet ppl who are interested in playing the drums have been watching Buddy Rich. And If its in Pornhub, u dont care - U want to improve
Get to know the drums:
How are (again other ppl) the Setups? Why is XY using this cymbal and not the other one? How is he using his pieces? (U can use ur rim, the middle of ur snare, the topside and downside)How does my set Work - what can i do with my Set?
Schedule
Always try to have a schedule.
And the most Important tip
Enioy ur drums. Love it. U dont Play this because ur Mom told u to ( Well im most cases), ure playing this because u want to. Always have fun.
huh
Also you should add DO NOT look at where you are positioning your foot or hands. You will end up concentrating on one piece and lose focus on others.

when you're a drummer and your neighbors bother you by start doing building or noise and then you realize that you can make more noise than them
I've been a drummer for about 6 or 7 years now and I still have trouble with the double off-beat bass drums sometimes - it can be confusing but practice makes perfect.
20:22 he explains it so well, that’s exactly how it feels and it’s very challenging to make your arm not move when hitting the bass drum.
You're a natural... I don't play, but have always wanted to learn.. You're inspiring me so much... Thank you..
The practising bits are so relatable! Every time I'm playing something percussive on the guitar I'm like "No. No. No. That's not it. No. Aaaaaaaaa. Why am I so stupid!"
But the feeling when you finally get it right is so satisfying!
Oh so so true! So frustrating but so rewarding once you get it right :)

Those electronic kits don't get the credit they deserve sometimes, they seem like a great tool for practicing at unconventional times

I can work, I just don't recommend it for beginners.
jaja your reactions when you are having trouble playing something, I believe every drummer does the same thing in frustration, I did the dame things.
Great job! I will definitely try this out! Thanks!

the metronome is the best way to fix this, in the beginning u will feel limited. but it will pay off after a while
I can attest to this.

Throughout this entire video I was thinking of the different techniques I've been taught, but most importantly I kept thinking ahead to the most important stuff. First I went like, "Oh gosh your pointer finger..." then you fixed it :D
The next thing was the starting beat everyone learns, and I was actually impressed on how it was pretty consistent in tempo for just starting- but then it admittedly did start to fluctuate and that's when I went like "Oh where the met at?" Then you then started using it the next day.
