Eh, some people do have a lot of willpower, and I have no doubt that there are some people in the world who could probably still be sane after learning that their life is meaningless or something, and in all honesty, if you look at the size of our universe, and just how small and impossible we are, you really do get the feeling of being meaningless, just look at the night sky, that's the endless expanse of space, where life *could* be, but also very likely isn't, we are all just specks of dust, hell not even dust, smaller than dust, floating in the absolute massiveness of a universe we still don't quite understand. I hope that doesn't sound too edgy, but to be honest, all you need to do is really think about how small we are in our own universe, and that alone should give you a feeling of hopelessness. Personally, I get more of a feeling of wonder, rather than hopelessness, because pretty soon, and it is probably going to happen sometime in the near future, Humanity will be able to travel the stars, will it be in a ship that travels faster than light? Or a way to create and manipulate wormholes? Who knows? My only regret is I probably won't be alive to see the day when Humanity becomes an Interstellar civilization.

I really do believe SCP cares and are trying their best for all of humanity's sake, but because of the mountains of supernatural BS they're always tripping over, they've ended up being extremely cautious.
Because of the possibillity of Cold Fusion being impossible in real life and thus the reason this SCP is able to give them this knowledge is because the knowledge itself is anomalous. All anomalous knowledge is potentially dangerous so the foundation doesn't take any chances. An excellent example of this in action is SCP 1812 (a pretty interesting SCP that I suggest reading if you have the time) which without getting into spoiler territory is a pretty good example why the SCP foundation is so tight lipped about knowledge.

In this theoretical knowledge spot I placed right above you, is the secret of eternal life and happiness. Or you could walk into another knowledge spot that’s in the corner of the room where you work, and it suddenly gives the knowledge of how ducks commit necrophilia. It’s an SCP that you can have a lot of fun with, or terribly dangerous, revealing secrets best left unknown.
I’d want to use this thing very frequently, even if it meant knowing something I’d wish I hadn’t. I’d want to know whatever was being hidden from me anyway. Being left in the dark for “one’s own good” is terrible.

My favorite thing to come from this scp is the tale where a guy steps into the field and starts losing his shit, panicking and freaking out. The agents around him are like wtf what’s wrong and he’s like “It killed all of them! 55! It’s not safe, it’s not contained!” And then everyone forgets about it. Gives me chills every time.
Definitely one of the more interesting SCP‘s, since it seems that it could be somewhat beneficial. On the other hand, it could fill your head with the kind of knowledge that would make a man go insane, so there’s that.

Fun fact: the "ethics committee" was a running gag on the site back in the early days. Mostly people making jokes like 'reassigned to the ethics committee' being a euphemism for 'killed for incompetence.' After a while some authors decided to actually flesh the Committee out, and give them a real presence on the site. The first EC tale I read was "Ethics Committee Orientation", written by Voct in 2011, and immediately after that was published I saw a bunch of authors get really keen on writing for the Committee. Fast-forward to now, and the Ethics Committee sits next to the O5 Council, RAISA, and Mobile Task Forces as a core part of how the Foundation ticks. God I love collaborative fiction. tl;dr: even the most horrifying things the Foundation does need to be approved by the Ethics Committee, and the fact things like D-Class and human sacrifice are accepted is a sign that the foundation are Not Nice People At All.
