93-years-old, frail, sick and sadly not long for this world, and yet Bernard Cribbins still brings exactly the same energy he did to Wilfred Mott all those years ago. He absolutely had it right to his final moment. What a brilliant actor. R.I.P.
I bet it’s to free Wilfred from his guilt. Companions can suffer and die, yes. But they should NEVER feel guilty. Wilfred watched the Doctor die because of a mistake he made. Thus, the Doctor must have wanted to ease his mind in some subconscious way. Not to mention, Ten’s regeneration was the weird one-regrowing hands, regrowing bodies, splitting in half, makes sense that he’s got the warped genetic code.
The fact that Bernard Cribbins even did this speaks to just how incredible he is!!! He's 93 years old, frail, in a wheelchair and so sick that he dies not long after shooting this.😭😭😭 And yet he still has the strength to agree to do this AND to give us one last incredible performance on top of it!!!

I know everyone's talking about the actor but let's talk about the character for a moment. The last time he saw the doctor he believed that he had killed 10. That he had utterly destroyed him and there was no way for him to ever come back. Imagine what it must be like for him to see the 10th doctor's face again and know that his decision did not end hos story
Throw in the fact that he's kept silent, tip toeing around Donna in fear of accidently killing his only grandkid. That kinda pressure is enormous, so the relief must've been the biggest weight off.
Wilfred's reaction to seeing the Doctor again was exactly my reaction to seeing Wilf again. So happy for us the fans and for him as an actor that he got to do this one final scene. Beautiful moment!
I love that sweet old man...miss Bernard Cribbins but what a send off for such a well loved and venerable actor. This scene was worth waiting 15 years for and can't wait to see The Giggle..getting prepared for a good cry
Anyone else have someone cutting onions in their living room during this scene? I had to check to see if it was CGI Bernard, but I saw it was his last scene before he died. Made it an even more awesome scene. He finally got to see his granddaughter whole again and see the Doctor he loved one last time.
I feel RTD wouldn't have used CGI out of respect for Cribbins. Hell, did you see Tales of the TARDIS? They used a similar trick there for William Hartnell and Stewart Bevan.
Besides seeing Donna and the 10th Doctor again seeing Bernard Cribbins in this scene brought tears to my eyes and was easily the best part of this series arc. What a beautiful amazing man. The world isn't the same place without you in it!
i wonder how much of the crew was in tears after they shot the hug between the doctor and wilfred....not knowing it will be the last time they will get to work with a great man like bernard

For Donna it's been 15 years, for The Doctor it's been more than a thousand and 3 regenerations. And it was bloody fantastic to see good old Wilf one last time.
So going to miss him. I just about going through the whole series a second time before watching the three specials back to back since a friend had introduced the series to me a few years ago and have just rewatched series 8. Broke my heart watching Bernard's scenes, especially the final one at Donna's wedding. Such an amazing actor.
I didnt read up on Bernard Cribbins apperance in these specials so I was kinda disappointed when they said he was still alive in the first special when i knew he passed irl a year ago. ( Thought he would just be mentioned as alive and off-screen) Honestly i was surprised and very happy to see our boy wilfred again

They were intending on doing more as Russel T. Davies has said but because Bernard Cribbins died in the middle of the filming of these specials they couldn’t.
If you think about it, Wilfred was lucky not to suffer the trauma of rigeneration . Instead of meeting a doctor with a different face and personality , he met his doctor. A fortune that other teammates didn't have .

Whatever criticism I may have of this special, this scene makes everything worth it. Not only reuniting The Doctor with Wilf, but essentially the very same version he knew. Doctor Who does Member Berries right. So glad we got to see Wilf again, and that Bernard made it happen, he was a brief companion character but he left such an impact on me emotionally, and has some of the most quotable lines. I also always point with both hands when I say Merry Christmas cause of Wilfred Mott.
Headcanon: Despite going in the TARDIS for a long time making you immune to The Giggle, Wilf only travelled in the Tardis for a brief moment. Therefore I will from now on assume that Wilf is just SO strong willed and so kind of a person that it didn't affect him.
We all love Wilf but it’s weird the Doctor is so concerned about “leaving him waiting” yet had no care about Jack waiting for him for 2000 years or any number of actual companions
I suspect they brought Cribbins back without telling him about any of the woke stuff that would be in the specials. Not sure how a man like him, at his age and sensibilities, would have reacted.
