Eu vivo nessas belas montanhas.

This is a very wonderful symphony. It dates from 1944. Note that the title is ambitious but Villa Lobos met perfectly that challenge.

In your opinion, what is the most complex orchestrated work by Villa-Lobos?

@@romulo5177 Difficult to answer, since on one hand this is partly subjective and n the other hand I am far from knowing the whole orchestral work written by VL. Choros 10 appears to me as a total success in orchestral writing

I had just finished listening to the St. Clair performance of this work, and on comparison I find Karabtchevsky's a more compelling one, and in better recorded sound. He lets this music breathe and sing more, yet is also more dramatic. I had forgotten that this was the symphony that Villa-Lobos "etched" out of the mountains; I don't know how he accomplished it, but the end result is an engaging, thought-provoking, musically satisfying opus.

ronald b woodall "Symphony No. 6 ‘On the Outline of the Mountains of Brazil’(1944), which launched his mature symphonic style, derives partially from his educational work. “Millimeterization” was the process he invented for obtaining a melody from an image. On a piece of transparent graph paper he would allocate the vertical lines to the pitches and the horizontal ones to the durations; this transparency would be superimposed onto a photograph, whose main points would determine the melodic contour. A skilled teacher could then harmonize the often unusual tune thus obtained, and the result was intended to encourage creativity in children. Villa-Lobos used this process twice in concert works, New York Skyline (1939), for solo piano, and this Symphony No. 6. This method was occasionally adopted, later, by such composers as Messiaen and Cage."

+ronald b woodall Hy Mr. Woodall. I think and I feel it masterpiece overcomes the technical aspects of the geometry of these mountains.
You got the goal! The most important thing is that music is fabulous! And the Karabtchevsky with the OSESP got a fascinating sound! Congratulations and grateful for the file.

I'm not sure. I think the best version I heard was from Roberto Duarte, Slovak Symphony Orchestra... (I do find this OSESP version 'sleeping' a bit, but I'm still only on the first movement..)
