If anyone is wondering why this song strikes fear in the hearts of Westerosis, here's a brief summary: The Reyne-Tarbeck rebellion happened decades before the events of Game of Thrones. Tywin's father, Tytos was still the head of House Lannister. In comparison to his son, Tytos is a weak minded man who preferred being favored than being feared. He allowed the Reynes and Tarbecks (Banner men to the Lannisters) to borrow money from the Lannister and not demanding a payback. When it was Tywin's turn to become head of the Lannister family, he decided to make the Reyne and Tarbeck pay their debts. Not wanting to pay, the two families decided to rebel against their Liege Lord. Tywin wanted the lesser families to fear the Lannisters once again so he decided to wipe out both families. During the final battle, Tywin pushed the Reynes back to Castemere, which is their ancestral home. The Reynes knew that they had the advantage if they stayed within their castle, they had enough food to outlast the Lannister in a siege. Tywin, who was a tactical genius decided to re-route the river next to the castle and flood the entire castle (and now it rain weep over this hall). Every exit has been covered by the Lannister troops, there was virtually no exit, resulting in drowning everyone in that castle. This show of strength and no mercy is why other houses fears the Lannister and that is why this song strikes fear with anyone who messes with that family. I apologize for the shortness of this summary. THere are definitely more details in the Reyne-Tarbeck rebellion. TH-cam has a shit ton of videos on it. Im sure I left out some details and I am sorry for that. I am summarizing this from memory.
@@frostedcat I dont think he was an evil man. He did what he had to do to strengthen his family and keep the Lannister name feared. Is he a bad father? maybe. The Rains of Castemere history is actually the most tragic song. It says about the clash between House Reynes and House Lannister. The Red Lion vs the Golden Lion. Tywin Lannister trapped the Reynes and everyone in their castle, they hid underground and Tywin flooded the castle and the Lannister army heard screams of everyone and after some hours there was piercing silence. Couldn't be that cruel since most people in the show and real life didn't have a problem with it, even enjoyed the results. I don't know why but my cat love this song from his childhood and today he is going ,going to the heven he left us behind and for his goodbye we start this song and my heart says he is happy in the heven.
When you connect the lyrics to the events, the song becomes even more terrifying than before. The first part is a reference to the banners of both houses, House Reyne with the red Lion, House Lannister with the Golden Lion, in this part it seems to me that Tywin was actually saying "Unlike my father, I'm not someone you want to fuck with" *And so he spoke and so he spoke that lord of Castamere* is a reference to the letter he received after House Reyne took shelter in the mines and it's obvious that he wasn't even planning to accept any truce, he wanted blood, or to be more specific, he wanted water. *Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall and not a soul to hear* Tywin just saying "He said a lot of things in his letter, none which matters, The water flooded the mines, and now they're all dead"
I think it's quite the opposite. From the beginning to the "and so he spoke and so he spoke" the speaker was the lord of house reyne. It is used to show how house reyne was so proud and superb to compare themselves to their liege the lannister and even insult them; while is the last part that overturn the situation and show how you don't fuck with the lannister as you said In the beginning he said:"who are you that i must bow so low... only a cat of a different coat". It means that house reyne do not respect the lannister (tywin) as their liege and so he do not have to bow down as a sign of respect to them (he mocks them); the cat part it could refer to the lannister losing prestige and respect due to tywin's father actions (so they are seen not as lions but as cats). In the second part the lord of house reyes said:"in a coat of gold or a coat of red a lion still have claws..." he use the lion coat on their houses banner as a metaphor to say that even if you are my lord i'm still as strong and powerful as you (we are both lions even if our coat is of a different colour) The the:" and so he spoke...." part means that the lord of castamere said all this shit about us lannister then look what happened, in the rain part i agree with your view
The begging is what the lord of castemere is saying. The Lannister would never call other people their lords. “who are you that I must BOW so low?” “A lions still has claws and mine are long and sharp, MY LORD” The next part is Tywins response the talk and talk and now there is no one to hear them because they all dead. Basically saying you didn’t have claws sharp as ours.
Shall I begin to explain how a lions heart works; traded dishonorably calling a country to war as it feeds upon itself from within... tell the Lannisters I send my regards as this will never happen again🗡️🦁🪬👑⛑️🐘🏎️🔥🔥🔥🚨🌬️🔥🗽🔥🐲🦅🦉🌌🌍🌎🌏🐆🪽❤️

Not only that, after he massacre House Tarbeck and the Reynes secluded in Castamere, the Reynes actually send a letter to Tywin asking for forgiveness and that they will pay the loans taken. Tywin just ignored the letter because he wanted to. Not only that, can you really blame me for hating them? Just see the show or read the books and you will see how even people in Westeros hated them because of their actions (I use them as example since I'm tired of the overued "different times argument"

Oh GOD NO ....... NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Aahh shit... here we go again
That is really funny and original
That unfunny joke appears a myriad of times in the comment in every single version of this song
The song that killed robb stark
I am Lannister, hear me roar! Love it.
Mytoast Isdone Gotta Be the best motto of a house
We played this at my cousin's wedding as a prank. You could tell by the audience's reaction who watched the show.
I don't know why but my cat love this song from his childhood and today he is going ,going to the heven he left us behind and for his goodbye we start this song and my heart says he is happy in the heven.

Lannister sends their regards
every morning listen it before I go to work
Top linda! Melhor série de todas pra mim.
this is the only song in the series where I made sure I found the name and listened it again. but I loved all the music at the wedding.
I can only think of two songs from the series; the title music and The Reigns of Castamere.
When you connect the lyrics to the events, the song becomes even more terrifying than before.
The first part is a reference to the banners of both houses, House Reyne with the red Lion, House Lannister with the Golden Lion, in this part it seems to me that Tywin was actually saying "Unlike my father, I'm not someone you want to fuck with"
*And so he spoke and so he spoke that lord of Castamere* is a reference to the letter he received after House Reyne took shelter in the mines and it's obvious that he wasn't even planning to accept any truce, he wanted blood, or to be more specific, he wanted water.
It is used to show how house reyne was so proud and superb to compare themselves to their liege the lannister and even insult them; while is the last part that overturn the situation and show how you don't fuck with the lannister as you said
In the beginning he said:"who are you that i must bow so low... only a cat of a different coat".
It means that house reyne do not respect the lannister (tywin) as their liege and so he do not have to bow down as a sign of respect to them (he mocks them); the cat part it could refer to the lannister losing prestige and respect due to tywin's father actions (so they are seen not as lions but as cats).
In the second part the lord of house reyes said:"in a coat of gold or a coat of red a lion still have claws..." he use the lion coat on their houses banner as a metaphor to say that even if you are my lord i'm still as strong and powerful as you (we are both lions even if our coat is of a different colour)
The the:" and so he spoke...." part means that the lord of castamere said all this shit about us lannister then look what happened, in the rain part i agree with your view
The begging is what the lord of castemere is saying. The Lannister would never call other people their lords. “who are you that I must BOW so low?” “A lions still has claws and mine are long and sharp, MY LORD”
The next part is Tywins response the talk and talk and now there is no one to hear them because they all dead. Basically saying you didn’t have claws sharp as ours.
The only song I know word for word.
That's a pretty good song. The voice is perfect.
dark shit, like it
Had no love for House Lanister until I heard their song.... well played, well played....
So u love Lannisters cos Tywin wiped 2 houses? In a shortcut.
Funny how we would hear the song playing in the series but until Cersei tells Marjorie the truth about it you realize how dark and disturbing it is.
Goosebumps
When your brain decides it's "The *Trains* of Castamere" from now on...

Winter is coming!
Next time at the renaissance festival I should sing this like Thoros was when walking to the entrance on the path.
I'm utterly obsessed with this song
THE NORTH REMENBERS
What did you have for lunch last Thursday?
Good. Let them never forget.
@@bradschultz2436 A pizza with peperoni tanks for asking
Lannisters have paid their debt sir nothing has to be remembered, not anymore
Bronn of House Rain will have his revenge on those Lannisters now, care of Cerseis Crossbow.
that would be a hell of a plot twist
I hate the Lannisters but I love this song
@hammas ali
Only reason they killed Robb
@@shahidArkam Just that? I hate the Lannisters, but killing Robb is the softest thing they did. The event behind this song is way worst than that
@@rolandorodriguez4504 Can you tell me about that?
@@Chmiel109 Short story, Tywin massacre both House Tarbeck and House Reyne. Yes, they openly revolted against their liege lord, however, he could have just remove their lands and titles.
The Lannisters send their regards
Best ever 💯👍🏾❤️
I'm back to say we always pay our debt ❤👀🐐💪🏾
Rip the starks
I always imagine this as Tywin singing it , the voice kind of fits !
The red wedding gives me nightmares!🥶
This song hit different after episode 9 season 2
October 2024
Producers for HotD singing this to the producers of LOTR Rings of Power.
I love how this song is all about putting people in their place. Gets me motivated when running my businesses
And who are you?
The proud Lord said
That I must bow so low?
Only a cat of a differtent coat
That's all the truth I know.
In a coat of gold
Or a coat of red
A lion still has claws
And mine are long
And sharp, my Lord
As long and sharp as yours.
And so he spoke
And so he spoke
That Lord of Castamere
But now the rains
Weep o'er his hall
With no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains
Weep o'er his hall
And not a soul to hear
And so he spoke
And so he spoke
That Lord of Castamere
But now the rains
Weep o'er his hall
With no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains
Weep o'er his hall
And not a soul to hear

Such a lovely song for such a depressing scene
Tywin does not mess around. Period. I would be seething if I saw my grandfather and father were destroying our house and reputation and name with cowardly behavior and witless tactics.
Returning here after 2 years
This will be played at my funeral
It should also be played at Charles Dance’s funeral. He did amazing as Tywin.
I love this song and the lyrics helped me learn it. :)
