Sarkhan Vol. I’m not an expert in MTG lore but Sarkhan interests me with his fixation on dragons, his changes in colour and interactions with Nicol Bolas and Ugin.
Loooooove Nissa, love her to bits. On the more subtle characterization side, outside her main arc, one interesting dimension to her is that she's incredibly relatable to autistic people. We see ourselves in her extreme uncertainty and anxiety with things like social conventions, and her pure joy when she's engaging with what she loves. It's just a really nice thing to see when you've spent your whole life learning to mask such things.
14:22 To me, it's always been "on Dominaria she was abruptly booted out of the story because the hack lead of the new creative team had been tasked with preventing the previous team's romance setup from going anywhere."
Interesting and great video. When I think about why certain colors are present in a planeswalker/character are present in cards, I usually think about what has change in the character and which new habit or attribute have they gained to deserve that color identity
Amazing video. Nissa is my favorite character of Magic's lore and you explained many aspects of her personality that many people doesn't observe. Nissa is a lonely person and always feel like an intrude when it have to deal with other planeswalkers. I as used to just hate the mistakes of war of sparks books, but nowadays the new people in charge of Magic's lore seems to use the mistakes in favor for an even complicated and enjoyable arc of grown to Nissa, and I'm glad they're have this confidence to not just make an easy excuse to delete that poor written mess, but use this in a meaningful way to show how I can be difficult to Nissa and Chandra get well together, even if they have (or had) feelings for each other
After Nissa's latest developments in the New Phyrexia story, I wonder how people feel. I really love the Phyrexian storyline so far. But seeing Nissa's fate is heartbreaking beyond belief.
It was really fun to have MTGloreseekers involvement in this episode! This deeper look into Nissa as a character and how her color associations change over time wasvery enlightening. Once again, your video has inspired me to take a deeper look at one of my own characters and how his colors may have changed over his lifetime. Thanks again Dice!
Fascinating video and awesome collab to say the least. Definetevely one of my favourite characters alongside Elspeth, Saheeli, Garruk, Karn and Teferi. And yeah Jaya and Ajani. WotC seems to dislike/ is way too narrow-minded to deal with non human characters so I feel the worst for her, but I'm sure she will keep on adapting and dealing with the worse situations. Super awesome video and collab to say the least. Take care
@@DiceTry Yeah, it's interesting seeing an elf who deals with complex issues of self-worth and purpose. They're usually a very elegant, self-assured race, it's a fun subversion.
This was so awesome! It’s amazing how all your work and analysis of the colors philosophy falls so neatly when applied to a complex and evolving character. I’m here for anyone else you want to explore next 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
There may be little Story at this point from her being a relative new character, but what I'd like to see, is Kaya. She has an interesting path in my opinion and I find it interesting how her arch went so far with the gatewatch. A charakter with a little more story, but who seems to undergo some hard changes (literally) would be Tamiyo. I myself find it hard to understand the mentality of Green/Blue, which is why I'd love to see her explained.
@@iamthetable8131 But Tamiyo had blue in her colors way before she had contact with jin. In War of the Spark her card is also Green Blue as just one example.
So Niko's video would be...what? Two seconds long? All joking aside, this was well done. I like the idea of you branching out into more than just color theory, but now into character study. And Nissa has had quite the roller coaster of a journey for herself. Unlike with Jace, who I would classify as having something of a "hero's journey," Nissa instead has a journey of self-discovery. And you encapsulated that well with the challenges and obstacles she faced on that journey
This video makes me sad. It reminds one how deep and vast and thoughtful and creative MTG lore used to be before WotC changed their process to: "Which type of hat do we put on the characters before we let the random word generator create the 'stories'."
OK thanks for the input. May I ask how you were watching it. I do notice the music seems to be louder when using headphones but I'm curious as to how you were watching it. I'll look out for that next time when I'm editing though
In the universally hated war of the spark book Chandra says that she was never in love with nissa in that way ans that she actually likes guys. Totally unsatisfying way to end an interesting relationship
@@DiceTry That's...slightly disappointing. I'm not even gay, and I thought the idea of Chandra and Nissa(or even her and Lillyana) as a thing wasn't necessarily bad, because being a gay couple didn't really affect the story in any way, as they were both good, well built characters that weren't defined in the story by their sexual orientation...so why anger so many people that WERE fans of such a non issue?
@@pkphantom it had to do with a managerial shift in wotc at the time (who is thankfully gone now, sorta, instead leading hasbro as a whole but has still lead to wotc being able to have more representation in their stories again recently) who wanted to broaden the appeal to a Chinese market. LGBT representation is not tolerated there so they axed it. 😔
This was a good video but I think you give Nissa a bit too much credit. I always saw her as more of a wishy washy person who acted more out of self interest. The releasing of the eldrazi was a perfect example of this she didnt care what the Eldrazi would do to other planes so long as they left her plane alone then when they continued to destroy her plane after freeing them only then did she start to "care" about the threat the Eldrazi posed.
So what Planeswalker deserves to be covered next and why?
Gideon. I’d like to see his path and eventually his sacrifice
Sarkhan Vol. I’m not an expert in MTG lore but Sarkhan interests me with his fixation on dragons, his changes in colour and interactions with Nicol Bolas and Ugin.
Sarkhan sounds great, but only ir you make Kaiba comparisons.
I really really really want to explore Hualtis story. But we need more of her to talk about It.
Yeah I think he is a great candidate

Hmm I never thought about it that way thanks for the perspective. I can Def see what you mean now
I knew there was a reason I liked Nissa

Hey man, thanks for having me
Glad to have you it was a great addition!
Well, I randomly just checked on this channel and find a video released only two minutes ago. I’m going to enjoy this.
Perfect timing

Awesome video and great choice of planeswalker to take a look at!
Personally I didn't think much if nissa before making this video but I have come to really like her

Honestly I think she gets blue simply because of her being compleated by Jin Gitaxias. Ezuri got blue too after getting in contact with Jin.

@@overfailed3639 ah yeah that's true, I forgot that she splashed blue a lot too, especially with her first card being blue too
Good video, glad I stumbled across it from a Twitter post. Look forward to watching more of your channel.

Absolutely f%&$ing amazing👏👏👏👏
Now that's a review
Gruulfriends forever ❤️
Where is that animated nissa at @16:27 from? so trippy!!
I would say Vraska or Narset
Love the video, but I feel the music might be a bit loud. Not sure if it’s just me, but the audio balance seems a bit off.
