    I've gotta say, this channel is quickly becoming my favorite magic channel. The ideas and philosophies behind the colors and the color pie have fascinated me ever since i first read about it. Your explorations of such are insightful and entertaining.

    The influence of Red mana pushes daredevils to sled, ski, board, and luge. Red would look for new ways to express itself, perhaps even test itself, in the confines of the cold. That would explain the Klondike camping I did as a Boy Scout.
    Naya, Bant, Anzan, and Temur become more obviously expressive in the snow, leaning into their values of community, nature, emotion, and contemplation. Those are the color combos I'm more personally keyed to, so I wonder how the other wedges and shards would respond. Guild combos would be an interesting look too.

    Listening to how you describe white, it seems at least to me that when colors are forced into survival circumstances, they take on the qualities of their enemy colors. White becomes a source of inspiration, warming the souls of all of those it cares to keep them united much like how Red does on a daily basis by just existing, while also having to care only for those in their own community, quite alike to how Black cares only for itself and those who love them. Blacks usual amoral and self-intrested self is an excellent tool when White has it's back up against the wall.
    Blue taking the time to self-reflect and consider what got it into the mess it now finds itself in screams Green, as Green has always had a deep respect for the history and the ways things are not because they are natural, but that these ways were proven best over a long history. Blue when ripped out of it's prime, has to stop thinking and expanding itself, and instead regroup by understanding how it failed. Being forced to deal with the present and not the future for it's own survival allows for Red's strength to shine through Blue, forcing Blue into action and learning how much of itself it never knew it could rely on. Red is always the one to be intuned with it's body and allowing its mind to act as one whole rather than a concious and subconcious seperate. Blue being forced into survival allows it to finally be forced to act and learn that it's instincts aren't an enemy.
    Black would at first seem like an exception here, diving into it's own natural strengths to survive for Black has always been the one color who knew the world was always against it. However, even Black in these circumstances where everything is stacked against them starts to rely on others, while yes for personal gain, still starts to build a community much like White. Black in this event takes on a role White is well known for, being in charge and setting an example of how things are going to be and exacting punishment upon those who trespass against the norm set by Black. As much as Black may hate White in normal circumstances, it will quickly take on White's role to prevent anyone else from mismanaging that level of power, something White proclaims itself. Black also borrows from Green not in relation to others like how it borrows from White, but instead how in it actions. Green is a force of nature itself, understanding exactly its place and how the world is. Black has always hated how Green accepts these allowences from fate, but when it's back is pressed against the wall, Black learns some humility as it restarts from nothing.
    Red finds itself finally seeing all of existance through Blue's eyes, being forced to slow itself and take in the beauty of how things are, what things can be, all from a view worth killing for atop a mountain much like how Blue often looked down on all of existance from the perch of it's own nose. Red sees there is its own passion in simpley remaining at ease, peacefully still and taking in oneself in relation to all that is. That is how White will come in and give Red a boon, a supporting hand as Red must channel their fire and energy for the betterment of itself and others. Wild chaos helps no one when at any time one misstep can destroy everything.
    Green I think isn't as strong as Green would have many believe, for when Green is on it's heels it is forced to adapt and evolve, changing quickly as everything around it changes into something completely different. Is this not Blue at work, changing your very form, identity, and habits to an evershifting landscape? True, Blue's landscape it that of the mind, but when the landscape becomes your enviroment how is Green's response any different from Blue? In addition to this, Green becomes quite selfish as it struggles with everyone and everything around it as it thrashes and struggles to thrive, refusing to go down when everything is set up for its failure. In what other way could Black look upon Green, and smile fondly in approval?
    The snow shows us what the colors can do when pressed upon hard times, and from my view, they push away their allys and embrace their enemies in a desperate bid to survive.

    Snow cards are a type and mechanic I wish would just randomly pop up in other sets.Winter exists in many plains, and a freak blizzard in a warm area can be just as dangerous as anywhere else, even if the aftermath would probably be briefer. There would be even more of an excuse to create "thaw" or "freeze" as mechanics too. Fun video 😃

    Creative outlook! There are snow colors, but there are so many other cycles that are color based!
    You could (and don't worry about excecuting the ideas) make a video about:
    * The prototypes from Brother's war
    * The command cycle from Brother's war
    * The rare kicker cycle from United
    * New planeswalkers (I think the algorythm will like that)

    Hi~
    I hope you see this message because I just wanted to thank you for your incredible work.
    To be honest, I don’t know anything about MTG, of course I saw the art of the cards, I know that the game is popular, but nothing more. I even thought that the system by which the cards are divided is the elements. Water, fire, nature, light and darkness, because this is a very common practice almost anywhere.
    And how nice it was to be wrong this time.
    One day I went to the wiki to read about the different colors of mana and some of the factions. There was a lot of information and I did not understand anything, heh
    But, just a week ago, I came across a video of a Golgari swarm, and I'm like, "Hmm, that sounds interesting." And then I watched more videos, and another, and then a couple more, and for more than a week, almost every day, I've been watching your videos, some already many times, just because it's interesting.
    No, not JUST interesting, it's damn interesting!
    I am very grateful to you, because you opened a completely new perspective for me on many things, the color pie itself is essentially a philosophy.
    And your videos sparked my interest, curiosity and imagination. It's such a simple yet so versatile structure.
    And just yesterday I was in a very depressed state, thinking that maybe not all people have color, maybe not everyone deserves to be something bright and someone is just... colorless and empty. And on the same day I watched a video about the sixth color, and what was my surprise when you talked about colorless ones there. It... gave me hope that the color is still there in each of us, it's just that it probably doesn't stand out so brightly at times.
    And yet, such a simple thought as learning what something is NOT helps to understand what it is. It's so simple, but this thought often eludes many, including me.
    And now I just think about many things, linking these things to colors, and it has become a mental exercise for me.
    ...
    In general, yes, I am very grateful to you, I really like what you do, so you have one plus little fan of your work.

I have a playlist of your color video essay's that I listen to daily that has really helped me be more intune with who I really am and casting off the poison that holds me back and weighs me down. Doing so has had a really positive effect on my mental health and self-image, and introducing your work to others has also really helped others to help expand their minds and work on themselves as well.

    @DiceTry Could we see perhaps a video on mental illness in relation to the color pie? What mental struggles, stressors, and illnesses are more likely to afflict people of different color combinations, and what methods would be best to help them through these struggles they are most likely to encounter?

    • @BouncingTribbles
      @BouncingTribbles ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Exploring what colors different illnesses themselves are would be interesting too. Like what color is OCD, is it blue? Like curses.
      Do you think it would be easier or harder to be one color pair, but have an illness that is the opposing color?
      Would an illness be the opposite of the color? Like a blue illness means you can't learn, and a red illness means you aren't spontaneous or creative.
      Very interesting thought exercise

    Eldritch Moon (and the Shadows over Innistrad block as a whole for that matter) will forever be my favourite expansion for me. It's the one that was running whilst I got proper into MTG, and it was the one where the world truly captivated and interested me. (As well as make me shit an entire brick once I saw Hanweir for the first time. Christ) I went on a large break from MTG again, and sadly I've missed Kaldheim, but when learning about it, I can safely say that it's an expansion that I absolutely would love to see revisited and get fleshed out further.
    Shit, I even bought Chaos Incarnate and bought a buncha cards to change it into a Kaldheim inspired deck, focused on demons and berserkers, with occasional zombies. Whatever that keeps the raiding and pillaging going, true to what Papa Kardur probably would expect.
    I'm also just a sucker for Norse inspired stuff generally and probably will make another Commander deck using cards primarily from the set, assuming the games shop that hosts Friday Night Magic don't get sick of me emptying their entire stock of Kalheim related cards lmao.

    Snow land's are cool and flavorful. I'm surprised they didn't expand in the land subtype. We got wastelands and those were cool for a few set's but then got left in the dust. I mean they could do burning lands, overgrown lands, flooded land's and even toxic land's. Maybe if WOTC actually had a brain geared towards fan's they could actually improve the over all mana base of the game which i think needs some major balancing.

    It's not a plane where the snow type has been featured but I think it'd be worth bringing ravnica into the discussion because of the effect the seasonal changes shown leading up to and during WAR had on the plane. One could theoretically take those changes further to guess what winter in ravnica would be like.

  • @leopardbunny
    @leopardbunny 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It's almost like Snow is an equal and opposite to Colorless, being neutral to the colors alike it and bridging the gap between, yet bringing them closer together through adversity, rather than distancing itself from them. A snow cost can be paid with any snow, regardless of color, just as a generic cost can be paid with any mana, including colorless. Yet colorless is separate from the colors, while snow is in tune with them and can take on a color, and snow costs specifically require snow, while colorless-specific costs are an exceptional rarity. A snowy landscape is also barren, not unlike a Wastes, yet often more difficult to tap into as snow mana sources tend not to offer much else and often come in tapped, while colorless lands offer much more access and abilities.

  • @eyezerocool

    Just curious. How is winter. "The end of a cycle." I always thought cycle that was infinite had no beginning or end.

    • @TheJamesGamel
      @TheJamesGamel ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Winter is seen as an end to a cycle simpily due to Spring being seen as it's begining. However all seasons are the start and end of a cycle. Imagine Fall as the start, how with every cycle everything that was strong and fought hard for withers away, and with these struggles it only gets worse. However through united efforts, people survive and make it through to better times and start to grow and expand in the Spring before finally coming to the end of the cycle with everyone together prospering in the fruits of their labors. The cycle is full beginnings and ends which is what makes it infinite and finite all in one.

    • @DiceTry
      @DiceTry  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The cycle is indeed infinite but if you were to think of winters significance it's the end of one cycle with spring the beginning of the next. It's a time where death takes the land. In many ways its symbolic of the end of our lives

    • @eyezerocool
      @eyezerocool ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DiceTry so it is more metaphorically the end of the cycle. Interesting. It's kinda of like how we measure time. A minute is a measurement of the intangible.

    • @andrewfortunato5086
      @andrewfortunato5086 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would say that when someone says a thing is the “end of a cycle”, don’t think of it as a finality, but more of something like the thing that kickstarts the next beginning of the cycle. If a cycle doesn’t have a thing that makes it a loop, it’s not really a cycle and is more of just a linear series of events

    • @foxoninetails_
      @foxoninetails_ ปีที่แล้ว +3

      While a cycle certainly can be the infinite expanse of the whole, the word is also often used for a single time through the endless loop. Winter is the end of one cycle, and spring is the beginning of the next; the totality of the cycle is endless, but each individual time around the circle is finite.
