Hopefully Aklo can pull out a Link win or someone can pull out like a Young Link or Luigi win man more low to mid tier runs like this feel so refreshing for the game
Melee players are built different. Cause there's so many tiny little technical inputs...and then you have monster's like these who make it look effortless and make it feel like an entirely different game.
It's by far the most impressive video game I've ever seen played. I play slippi online and I'm pretty decent, but some of the guys I run into are just beyond cracked. They could be bullet chess champions if they put their mind to it
We’re witnessing history. No other character in any smash game has made this drastic of a change in viability. Donkey Kong was literally E tier like 10 years ago and he just beat like seven Foxes.
Ehhhh Corrin in Ultimate made an arguably bigger jump. Character was considered like low mid tier for the longest time, and even after a balance patch the character was still seen as mid tier at best. Now people are going as far to say she's Top 10 if not better, and that's a game with a cast of 80+ characters, most of all which are viable in some way, and most of the Top Tier are extremely overtuned or have DLC privilege's. For a character to go from being seen as mediocre to being on level with G&W, Sonic, Aegis, Steve, ROB, etc. is fucking insane. Besides, at the end of the day, DK is probably only going to end up being around Ice Climbers on the Tier Lists, which is definitely a huge improvement but not bottom to top tier level jump.
@@Forged4War206 You forgot about Corrin getting buffed, while Dk never got any, and even then then she's definetly not top ten, she's not even the best swordfighter in ultimate

10:10 This part is so interesting. You can tell June has played Donkey Kong a ton because of how much he trusts Randall. On the outside he looks like a god, but really it's just adrenaline and good awareness/reaction timing. Salt is doing the same thing here, but it's mostly just auto-pilot muscle memory in order to lock on to where Donkey Kong is in order to land that flying down air to attempt a spike. Luck was on June's side here though. Randall gives Donkey Kong in particular a huge boost. Could Donkey Kong be the best character on Yoshi's Story? Allow me to explain. The fact that Randall continuously patrols those two sides of the stage means that a character with poor vertical recovery can benefit against characters that want to spike/meteor him by employing the technique that June showed here. Furthermore, Donkey Kong's Up B move is uniquely situated to benefit from this in the following ways. 1: It has poor vertical movement, but excellent horizontal movement. This means that even if you're not directly above Randall, if you understand the benefits/detriments of your character then you can always be aware on this stage to use DK's up B to position yourself to favor wherever Randall is in relation to your character on screen, in order to employ June's technique. Tech off of Randall into an immediate Up B. 2: It covers the fact that Dk's Recovery is extremely telegraphed. DK's Recovery won't give you an immediate boost upwards. This is a difference with many other top characters in melee. Consider the character Marth. His up B is almost a direct opposite to Donkey Kong's. Instead of giving you an incremental boost diagonally like Donkey Kong, it gives you an extreme, immediate boost vertically and only somewhat horizontally. Due to this attribute of Dk's Up B other players, even if they're not well versed in the matchup, can discover very quickly that Dk's Recovery can be capitalized on. In that way Randall is almost an extension of the Yoshi's story platform for a heavy, slow-recovering character like Donkey Kong. 3: A Falcon specific matchup. After watching this set it became clear to me that Donkey Kong is actually kinda good against Falcon. This matchup becomes exacerbated on Yoshi's Story, where you have the Randall Tech as just the cherry on top. The other aspects of the stage also benefit Donkey Kong's strategy quite well. So for the sake of argument I'll mention another stage: Final Destination. So what's the difference? Firstly, the platforms are removed and it's just the one supporting platform as the only ground to fight on. This is a detriment to Donkey Kong's gameplan. Donkey Kong's ideal stage would have platforms at short to medium height off the stage so as to make use of his cargo-up-throw into up-air, which builds percent at a very high rate while allowing you good control over medium to high weighted characters. However, the blast zones on FD are a good distance away from the center of the stage, much more far away than Yoshi's Story. This isn't particularly relevant to characters like Marth, Falco, Falcon, or Sheik. But to a character like Donkey Kong it's almost like swimming in an ocean. What I mean by that is that even if Donkey Kong gets launched at a far away angle to the corner of the screen that he'll have a better chance of recovering than those 4 other high/top tier characters I just mentioned. So, from this we can conclude that Donkey Kong given the time to employ his Up B to recover from off stage is actually a harder to hit target than most of the other characters in the game who mostly just want to jetpack upwards in order to recover. Meaning he actually has a secret scheme against characters that want to abuse down air attacks to spike their opponents.... I say down air attacks because Fox's spike is still pretty effective XD Sorry Dk you're gonna need more than a scheme against that character. Okay, rant's over, leave a like if you enjoyed. Good work June, you really deserve this win!

9:33 bro was tasting the salt after that one
It's the third one this week. How can one monkey create so much hype
"dk feels like a dlc character"
that's a wild compliment I'm ever hearing from melee

In the year of our Lord 2024, a DK is in Grand Finals of a Major for the first time in I don't know how long. A DEEEKAYYYY. (Reference to commentary before aMSa's Grand Finals victory at Big House Ten)
Good ol' MONKE
Players have learned that the secret to good DK play is to use your head.
I believe it's similar to how Mariah is considered the worst character in HFTF, but since few people play her, no one really knows how to counterplay her. Donkey Kong was probably some mysterious lump they can't predict, and thus being caught by surprise constantly.
junebug saw how this would unfold in a dream
that was so much fun to watch, like holy shit
That outro track, PERFECT! haha 💛🐵🍌
Let's go!!! Tier List? Nah, not today :p. Smash will always have slept on characters or vast characters with potential & I love it.
I did a double take when seeing this, legit paused for a solid three seconds before going like : WHAT?!?!
