Thank you for this trip down memory lane. As much as I've criticized Bioware for their over reliance on high-health, high-damage enemies for tension, you make a great point on the enemy variety and how much the variety in player characters helped this multiplayer feel unique despite what's laid out on paper. I think for Mass Effect fans, it was special being able to show the universe in a way that wouldn't be possible in Campaign. Does an unpossessed Collector shooting alongside a Geth, helping their Teleporting Poison Turion and Biotic Hammering Krogan make sense? Not really. Is it awesome? Hell yes!
Just remember, you could play as an Awakened Collector in multiplayer. You know, a Collector who broke free from Harbinger, remembers their memories as a Prothean and now hunts down the Reapers using advanced Reaper biotics? Fucking awesome.

This was a fun trip down memory lane for me. Thanks for this video. I worked on ME2 and 3, and was part of the MP team through all 5 DLCs. Multiplayer for us was a total labour of love and will always be a high point in my games career.
I'm actually shocked I found a video, a popular video no less, talking about ME3's Multiplayer and it's by someone who actually knows what he's talking about. As soon as you mentioned the Reegar Carbine and then later the Cerberus Harrier being the most broken things in the galaxy I knew that you've spent some time in the MP lol.
I loved playing this game with my Krogan warlord. I imagined that he’s that one krogan that wanted a fish from the citadel and he’s doing these missions for rarer species of fish he can eat.
An unspoken plus of the multiplayer was its capacity for roleplaying. Ever wanted to play Mass Effect as someone other than Shepard? Well MP gave us that option. Man I love this game.
This mode was a healing salve on my young traumatized mind in the wake of that absolutely soul shattering ending. I liked it because besides being a genuinely very fun mode, it was a canon/lore friendly mode where you could imagine being one of the 1000’s of elite teams or ragtag groups who fought the reaper threat. Back when the still had an imagination this allowed me to engage in light role playing with my characters and teams I built and grew.
LMAO! I remember a high school friend saying he dated this hot girl name Liara during sophomore year (said she was super hot) of course she went to a different school but he would show text messages he would receive so then we started to believe him and like 5 months later I randomly asked for her last name during lunch and he said "T'suni (or however you spell it)" and he looked at me with great fear. I told him never heard of her must be one of those kids that go to that rich school. He never brought her up again whenever he was with me. Few months later I saw mass effect 2 for sale and got it and saw that name... it clicked that he thought I knew who she was, which was a fake. Next day I went up to him and said "Bro your girl is a illegal immigrant" he paused and started to laugh. I kept it a secret ever since not to expose him like that. If you are reading this Anthony, I was a real one
ME3 MP slapped so fucking hard, even towards the end of that game when they added the Geth Juggernaut and shit like that. So much fun. EDIT: I don't recall the map, but on Platinum you could take 2 Geth Juggernauts and 2 of the Volus that gave shields. The Juggernauts could sit outside a crate that the big enemies couldn't get into, and the Volus would chill in there buffing, and you just spammed heavy melee on the Juggernauts because it drained the target and gave shields. That, with the damage reduction from the little missiles the Juggernauts could shoot, made Platinum wins super free.
@@houndofculann1793 I wondered what the box thing was about. I've only 'platinumed' using cobra glitches, lol, I'm just not good enough I guess. Now I have a new cheaty way if I play it again.

Regardless of personal biases, keep playing the games and making content you like; I think I speak for most of the community when I say that you make anything entertaining to watch.
I got into the ME Trilogy a few years after it finished up, and I absolutely loved going through it. When I got to ME3, and discovered that if I wanted to get the best ending, I had to play MP, I was kind of pissed at having to do something additional to make the ending as good as I could. But then I played MP, and I fell in love with it, so much so that I kept playing it even after my galaxy readiness was 100%, and eventually had to tear myself away from it to finish ME3 the first time. Basically, thanks for making this video, as I adore ME3's MP, and I'm glad to see a video dedicated to it!
@@cerberuscypher I have to admit I played it a lot in 2022 and early 2023, but not in last 6-7 months. I heard from many people that recent updates in 2023 caused many issues and connection breaks :( I hope EA app sorts it out... I hate that app tbh...

Hands down my favorite multiplayer game of all time. The free content they added over time was tremendous. I loved just about every class they added and enjoyed learning them all. Got my money worth for the game in single player but played it so many more hours in this. Coop multiplayer done well is my favorite.
I feel like there is one minor mistake in this video: Enemies can't instant-kill you if you SMASH THEM TO PIECES WITH A ROCKET POWERED FLAME HAMMER FIRST. Jokes aside though, I never understood why so many people talked shit about ME3's multiplayer. It was so awesome.
They can. But if you stand on a slope they can't. You can't get grabbed unless you're on the same elevation as the enemy. (Nor can you Shadow Strike it if you can't teleport to a spot on the same elevation)
@@KopperNeoman aye. Not seen this youtuber before but he mentioned you would get sync killed with the krogan warlord.... except you don't. Anything else you would just take on the nearest ramp and **** up. So many good classes in this game but I think I might have played salarian infiltrator + reload cancelled claymore more than anything....that was a beasty build. Especially when you use it to stun lock enemies. Also, using it on units that would normally grab kill you and just standing there saying “mine’s bigger” and just draining them is a real big dick move only the Geth Juggernaut can accomplish.
I greatly enjoyed Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer. My favorites were the Awakened Collector, N7 Destroyer, and the N7 Vanguard. I still love the Turian Soldier equipped with the Phaeston and a Mantis Sniper Rifle sitting and head-shotting enemies for hours. I know there were better rifles, but the single shot, headshot kill was incredibly fun.
I still love how some decisions from Mass Effect 1 can affect events from Mass Effect 3 in massive ways. I remember beating all 3 just to keep both the Geth and the Quarians alive lol worth it tho Legion is a beast
@@MarCuseus so being able to make peace between the geth and quarians isnt massive? Keep Wrex alive which leads to krogans prospering again under good leadership and making up with the salarians isn't significant? Rachni Queen? Maybe uve been blinded by the ending too much?

It's sooooooooo good to hear people praise and talk about ME, especially the multiplayer which I consistently play even today. Username: FracturedHorizon.
I just ran across this video. This was a fun trip down memory lane. The bit about how we patched weekly was interesting. We had myself and the combat team meet every Wednesday to discuss which weapons needed tweaking. Eric Fagnan had a chart showing where he wanted each weapon to sit according to a planned progression. Much of the metrics gathered were to see which weapons were receiving the most love and tweaking them accordingly so we would eventually see them settle exactly where we wanted it. I spent my Monday's testing the patch on each platform to ensure we hadn't broken anything. Since it was a small file that simply carried number tweaks, and as long as we kept that file under a certain size, we didn't require certification from Sony or Microsoft. I spent Thursday's checking the temporary patch for each weekend event. As I was the last person to handle the patch, I was the one who kept everyone on schedule so that each item was handled by a particular team member or members on certain days. It ran like clockwork thanks to a checklist Noel Borstad had put together for me to use. You can thank Brenon Holmes for the array of enemies and how they worked tactically. I shared my office space with Noel and Brenon, so I got regular updates on enemy progress. Initially, Brenon was against the idea of mixing factions in Platinum difficulty as each faction was balanced by their individual roles and how they contributed to ongoing combat. We wore him down eventually. Any free time I had I spent on the multiplayer section of the forums to see if there were glaring issues and to just generally have fun with the community. We were encouraged to do that. So, thanks for the nostalgia. It was fun. I really enjoyed my time at BioWare and it was great engaging the fans and jumping into random lobbies with them. It was a time I will never forget. Cheers! Derek "BWEGhost" Hollan
To anyone who decides to get into mass effect 3 multiplayer, if you play on PC (Which I would strongly recommend) you can open the command console by pressing "~" and enter the following "Unlockallmpkits Grantmpcredits 150000000" To unlock all characters and give yourself a shitload of credits to unlock guns. EA does not and cannot ban you for this and it makes the game infinitely more interesting. Asari Justicar Gang btw
I would feel a lot less compelled to play if I didn't have some sense of progression as I went along. I don't recommend doing this for anyone just getting into this mode, as it ruins most of the fun.
@@jollter I second this, getting every agent will make the your brain have an aneurysm with how many skills, passives, and builds you can choose from. Starting with the starter classes is a good way to get into and find what kind of playstyle you like the most. Also with mp creds, id be cautious with it. If you have a maxed out gun, you will steamroll through bronze and silver and lessens the fun while your learning the game. However, I'm not against it completely cause fuck loot boxes.
might do this, I appreciate the tip. I played the multiplayer when I was a console pleb ages ago, but I dont want to have to spend the lifetime it took to grind out what I had unlocked all over again. Sidestepping that issue could definitely motivate me to pick up the multiplayer again
@@Nethingispossible145 I'd advise to use the credit cheat, but not by that much. Just enough to get you a sweet bunch of unlockables to give you more fun options to choose from, and then progress legitimately from there. I once got 2,5 million credits through some bug and I think that's what actually started my addiction to that gamemode so that I played it for over 150 hours
I still remember playing the $hit out of this during High School on the 360 baby!! I'm super surprised that someone on TH-cam is giving this MP masterpiece some love. Thank you, now I have to go play this again :)
This was my favorite coop multiplayer I spent thousands of hours playing it with friends and breaking my TV's speakers with the massive amout of biotic explosions that you could do
I'll be the first to admit, this was the game that got my parents back into video games, and introduced them to Online gaming. The three of us, plus one extra friend- Depending on the day... We'd go into a Bronze or Silver run, and worked up from day one of this game to playing gold and platinum consistently. It was an experience, and I love it still.
Completely agree, such a gem. Shame that a lot of people never really got into it. I think they assumed the MP was crap because they got so frustrated with the ending of the SP. Another gem I still play is The Last Stand mode of Dawn of War II Retribution. Loads of builds to mess around with and so many potential team comps. Easy to pick up, hard to master and the progression isn't a punch in the face.
Therapist: "What is your greatest fear?" Me: "A Phantom and a Dragoon at the same time." T: "Huh?" Me: "I mean, uh... Rejection! Or Drowning, ... Yeah"
I do have fond memories of grinding this game. Not just for the the gameplay but also the community. Mics or no, everyone was actually playing to win and being cooperative. So much fun
Bro you brought back so many memories. Me and my friends would role play the N7 characters as like an elite spec ops squad. Me tanking as the fucking N7 destroyer with a big ass Revenant is some of the most fun and tense moments I've had playing video games.
I miss this multiplayer so much. I played it for almost two straight years, long after I finished the main game. I had a distinct build/ammo/weapon setup for every single class, every class was viable to a point (though some way more than others but that's just how it is.), and what I loved is that there was legitimate tech in the MP. From knowing just how to take full advantage of priming and what ammo to take, to the many hidden techs like the many cancels; animation cancels, reload cancels (especially Claymore), Nova cancel. The Geth Shotgun double shot, to name a few tricks. It walked this fine line between stable and broken that allowed it to function well (eventually, when they at least fixed the infamous Vangaurd glitch.) but was broken *just* enough for there to be cool tricks you could do. It was so much fun, something I've found myself having to both tell and convince people of over the years. Many sing its praises but just as many completely wrote it off and ignorantly continue to write it off, having completely missed out on it. I remember when Andromeda came out later, I didn't even try the single player first, I went straight to its MP because I wanted lightning to strike twice. Unfortunately like the rest of the package though, it didn't hold a candle to the ME3MP.
I miss this Multiplayer like crazy. Everything was spot on great review! The only thing I would say is the A button did EVERYTHING. In and out of cover, dodging, revives, etc. It gets you killed sometimes lol
I have SO MANY fun memories of playing this with my high school friends. We started playing from when the beta was active. I remember using the missle glitch for the highest difficulties. Standing as the last alive trying to survive the wave, pulling a clutch win with one of the turian operators. Thank you for this video!
Funfact, the ME3MP is still up since it's PtP based (though the Legendary Edition version of ME3 doesn't come with the MP, you still need the original release ME3 game for that). Second funfact, BioWare has long since stopped policing the MP so if you want to you can absolutely skip the grind (or however much a portion of it) by just cheating yourself a couple million credits via console commands, bypassing the random loot progression without any fear of getting your account suspended. You may also occasionally run into hosts who've heavily modified the game though so don't be surprised if you join a random game and stuff is whack.
Watching a video like this and hearing things about weekly updates and a genuine love of the game and attempt to make it better by the devs makes me feel like this is an archaeological dig and we are digging up relics of a past golden age long gone
I loved this multiplayer. My favorite moment was putting a Batarian glove on a Volus so I could do the Falcon Punch heavy melee. What's better is that since the volus was so short, you would not punch people in the head; you would punch them in the groin. Even better when it was a killing blow (humanoid heads would explode).

I spent money despite owning Legendary Edition just to play Multiplayer with my friends on PC. Still fun and incredible. Ya'll did an amazing job.
Thanks so much for this then. I had a blast of time in it, and still come back for a few rounds now and then.

Yo, I was ADDICTED to ME3 multiplayer when it had come out. Me and my friends played it an obscene amount.

Man, them not bringing this into legendary edition was a crime.

People forget that we had helldivers 2 years ago and it was this. People couldn’t appreciate how good they had it.

Jokes aside though, I never understood why so many people talked shit about ME3's multiplayer. It was so awesome.
I've been sync killed in the middle of Biotic Charge so I think that could happen as well =P
Cheers!

To anyone who decides to get into mass effect 3 multiplayer, if you play on PC (Which I would strongly recommend) you can open the command console by pressing "~" and enter the following "Unlockallmpkits
Grantmpcredits 150000000"
To unlock all characters and give yourself a shitload of credits to unlock guns.

@@Nethingispossible145 I'd advise to use the credit cheat, but not by that much.

So there will be no repercussions for cheating?
Watching a video like this and hearing things about weekly updates and a genuine love of the game and attempt to make it better by the devs makes me feel like this is an archaeological dig and we are digging up relics of a past golden age long gone

I loved this multiplayer. My favorite moment was putting a Batarian glove on a Volus so I could do the Falcon Punch heavy melee. What's better is that since the volus was so short, you would not punch people in the head; you would punch them in the groin. Even better when it was a killing blow (humanoid heads would explode).
