    My signs of hyperthyroidism cleared up with a high fat carnivore lifestyle. I also lost 46 pounds, got off blood pressure meds, and lost eczema on my skin. I feel better at 65 than I did at 23. I have followed a mostly beef, butter, bacon and eggs for the last year. I can’t wait to see how I feel at my 2 year anniversary. I do sometimes have seafood, turkey and chicken. I had cake on my daughters and wife’s birthdays in June and December. I no longer have gum disease. I have traded the boredom of this simple whole foods diet, for the boredom of doctor’s offices, dentists, pharmacy lines and blood draws. I would much rather be bored with this lifestyle and have energy, alertness and general feel good vitality.

    Oh how I wish this interview and the one with Amber had occurred earlier. 😢 I started carnivore with fasting and eating 4-5 pounds of meat on feasting days. Hormones tanked, stopped all fasting and introduced 2 to 3 sticks of butter a day but didn’t cut back on protein. I’ve been carnivore seven months and have put on almost 50 pounds in the last three months after I stopped all fasting. I did at least heal all discernible hormone issues, but boy oh boy, I cannot wait to lose weight. What a rocky journey this has been so far. These interviews of yours have arrived in my life better late than never. Thank you for always seeking to help those of us struggling in the carnivore community. ❤

      Why would you eat that much?

    • @LeanneJuliette
      @LeanneJuliette 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Why are you feeling it necessary to be eating 4-5 pounds of meat a day?!? Based on the 20% fat mince I have in my fridge right now that's between 5000-6500 calories a day just from meat! And 400-500g of fat.

    • @shannonmarko6809
      @shannonmarko6809 2 ปีที่แล้ว +57

      @@LeanneJuliette well, we all come from different metabolic issues, Leanne, and I definitely had leptin resistance, from my history of excessive yo-yo dieting and over exercising. When fasting, that hunger persisted. When I stopped fasting, and stuffed my body with nutrients, showed it we were safe, my hunger naturally went from 4-5lbs/day to 1.5-2lbs/day, over the course of 2.5months. Carnivore is supposed to be the cure all, but it isn’t instant. It doesn’t matter what I was “supposed” to eat, if I restricted, then carnivore would be just another restriction diet, and my starving leptin resistant body might have forced me off this healing path with bingeing. It’s been a trying journey, but I’ve learned more than most in my incessant quest for answers, and I thrive on a challenge.

    I have been following Stephanie off and on for a while and what I like about her is she never changes her style no matter what the trend comes and goes. I upped my fat and lowered protein, eating throughout a day since August and feel great. It’s not like unicorn firecracker energy, it is STEADY long lasting energy throughout a day. I followed a lot of carnivore who promote fasting (mostly men), but now I focus you and Stephanie since I am 44, female! I sleep better, no waking up for bathroom trip anymore. My fasting BS is on 70s! Thank you Kelly for great interview and now I am going to listen one more time!!😆😆😆

      "unicorn firecracker"🧨🎠energy might have been what we'd get in our 20's or 30's eating this way, yet we're smart enough to be realistic in our 40's & 50's(me)
      For decades, I ate 5 or 6 tiny meals throughout the day; a couple oz protein, & a handful of greens or other veg~ virtually fat free. It worked for weight loss, but after so many yrs of fat starving my body, I now struggle to get enough in trying to eat once or twice a day- which is how often I'm hungry now. Since I'm also ~ post meno, I'm considering going back to the "grazing" way, despite all the negative slant out there. People have to find their own best fit, imho~ & that's more than okay!

But that being said. Eating large amounts of protein at dinner still increases my morning blood sugars. Eating less protein and more vegetables at dinner made my morning Glucose levels lower. Large portions of beef for some reason raises my blood glucose levels. Finally, the big finding was...I learned about ApoB and Lipoprotein Fractional blood tests. I am a LDL Phenotype B which means I have way too many small dense LDL particles. So I'm eating more of a mediterranean diet now. More fiber and less fat....not zero fat. Okay. Where to start?! I LOVE STEPHANIE! She is so balanced in her outlook and 55 years old; WHAT?!!! I had just asked the protein amount question in Keto AF on FB this week and wasn't really convinced by the answer that it didn't matter as far as age, etc. I am 65, female, with an autoimmune challenge (MS diagnosed 30 years ago). I've been carnivore for 2 years and have noticed in the last few months that high protein is causing my glucose to be off balance. I was afraid of too much fat as I kept having diarrhea and thought it was the fat. So this week, I started eating my fat first and then a bit smaller amounts of protein. Diarrhea GONE. Whoa. Thank you, as always, Kelly Hogan, for bringing alternative views to our attention; so freaking helpful. We love you.

    Stephanie and I spoke together on a show with Bart Kay. We are very much on the same page here. I have been using 60-75g of protein for my clients for years and have taken a lot of slack for it from much of the community. It works. I myself stick to 90-120g and have added 50lbs of muscle in the last 10 years. So many try and tell me this is impossible. Look at Stephanie and look at me. We are both very well defined and have lots of lean mass using these amounts.

    This is so awesome and fun to listen to. I recently blew out my MCL and chose to only eat Carnivore (I’ve been ketovore) to see if it would heal quickly. Within 4 days I was walking normal and feeling amazing. I wasn’t doing jumping jacks - but there is no way I should be walking around without a limp! Go to today’s lunch of Avocado and protein shake - and suddenly I am in huge pain and limping around. Coincidence? I think not. This may be the push (smack in the head) I need to go all in for carnivore.

    you can clarify the butter by melting it at low heat and just skim the clear liquid butter oil on top which is most of the butter, and throw away the white milk liquid that collects at the bottom, which is very little. and you can store the clarified butter outside at room temperature for a year, and it doesn't go rancid.

No carbs, no fat, no access to fays because the insuline spike caused by eating meat my poor body was swetting like a pig trying to convert proteins into fuel. I had to change my t-shirts at the middle of the night. At least 2 rounds to pee. During the day I was so tired I was like a walking zombie. Thank you both SO much for this interview. I'm mid-50s, about 3 years post-menopause, hormones and blood sugar out of whack, got about 60 pounds to lose. So in one corner, you have Dr. Elizabeth Bright, who emphasizes an 80:20 fat to protein ratio and how vital that is to balancing hormones; and in the other corner, several other doctors prominent on TH-cam advocating the opposite - "Oh no! Menopausal women need protein, protein, and more protein! You're losing muscle mass every minute!" It's been incredibly confusing to know how the heck to proceed. Stephanie explains the nuances, fills in the gaps and clears up the confusion for me. (Get the hormones and blood sugar fixed first with high fat, THEN look at increasing protein if appropriate.)

But ever since, my BG has gone up after being below 100 before and ketones went way down. Now I know its because I am not utilizing all the protein I have been eating. Also my sleep problems returned as did the struggle with snacking. I am definitely going to try her method and see how I do - Thanks! We are not men...my biggest struggle has been how to get more fat into my diet w/o the extra protein. Voila - I found pork belly at Wild Fork Foods (very reasonable prices too).
    Edit: Tried a pork belly recipe I found and ate it last night and my BG dropped that extra 30 pts I have been getting since starting carnivore, literally overnight! And my ketones were over 1.0 this morning for the 1st time all year. Amazingly simple and I only had to add a little extra butter (so far) to get things moving again.

I had a hard time with the smaller protein portions (I’m a volume eater because of my big salad days) but it definitely helps lower the blood glucose. I’ve been trying this again. My biggest issue is that I still feel hungry after the first meal. Maybe I should eat some fat first thing in the am with a little protein to help curb my hunger. Im just a volume eater and that’s something I have to get used to. I also think it’s my leptin being so low and it doesn’t register with me that I’m full until 45 minutes later.

    I've been eating a carnivore diet for a little over two years. I'm not overweight but have a little to much body fat. Nothing that I tried to do ever worked until I watched a couple of Stephanie"s videos. I weighed myself yesterday morning and made a not of my weight and body fat percentage. I ate very small amounts of protein through out the day along with eating more fat (butter) than I've ever eating before. I weighed myself again this morning and in doing this just one day I lost a pound and also saw a reduction in my body fat percentage. I went out today and bought a pair of jeans one size smaller than what I normally wear and I'm calling them my goal pants. I'm excited and look forward to the changes that I expect to see. Thanks Stephanie and Kelly!

    This is an eye opening video. One of the main reasons I have gone on carnivore is because of severe tinnitus. I always noticed throughout the years that if I had a high sugar intake, it would make my head spin and get very severe about 30 minutes to an hour after my intake of sugar and it would actually affect my hearing. I am a fitness and dance instructor and if I did a class after eating a considerable amount of sugar, I could hardly hear my students when they spoke to me. I am thinking that I may be insulin resistant. I have been doing carnivore for eight months and I’m still experiencing tiredness in the middle or late afternoon . And I have been told that high protein (meat) turns into sugar. I am going to try to decrease the meat and increase the fat. This makes a lot of sense to me. Thank you for this insightful video.

    Dividing the protein into smaller meals and adding fat two weeks ago after two years carnivore and it absolutely lowered the blood sugar almost immediately and kick started the fat loss.

      @@repentjesusiscomingsoon1529 I was one eating 2 lbs of meat in one meal for 1.5 years. Last two weeks been eating a 6 eggs and sausage in the morning and about three hours later about 6 ounces of steak, then around 1-2pm another 6-8 ounces of beef. I have about 1/2 stick of butter each meal and then usually eat another 1/4-1/2 stick around 7-8pm. Still working on it and am going to try to work in the animal fat instead of the butter, just have figured out what yet, prob pork as they talked about.
      I stayed exactly the same weight for 1.5 years carnivore and still have higher blood sugars than I want, though close to normal - 95-120 in that range. As soon as I added the fat, the sugar started coming down, was in low 80's two days ago. Fat from belly also started coming off very noticeably with the first week. My fasting insulin is down to 8, no idea where I started at, but it was 12 six months ago, so I am sure that I am not completely fat adapted yet either.
      Pretty sure I was undereating energy, I decided that a couple of months ago, but was trying to figure out what I needed to tweak. I do not work out other than walking twice a day and pushups every 2-3 days, but I do a lot of physical work in the sun all day long, most days.
      So close to healed after years of diabetes, so ready to get there!

    I used to follow Stephanie when I first started keto. And she has some valid points. But she has never been a food addict, fat or even overweight.
    Also, Dr Ken Berry (and many others in this space) has explained very nicely how gluconeogenesis is need based. Demand driven. Extra protein doesn’t just convert into sugar unless you need it.

      @@CG-mj8tk The body can run from either glucose or ketones. If your body goes into gluconeogenesis, that means the body isn’t getting enough fuel, so it’s making glucose from protein. The body will find a way to make fuel to run itself. That’s why Steph says to eat 80% fat in your diet-that’s the ketogenic diet. Eat enough fat so that your body runs on fat and not glucose.

Then I discovered I feel better on 80 percent fat all the time. Weight drops, sleep better, intense body pain from fibromyalgia is cut in half. Now to stick with it long term.

      If that's based on A1c, you do have to consider that often a continous glucose monitor shows that the blood cells must live longer on carnivore so the formula falls apart and blood sugar correlation isn't accurate, but if that was fasting glucose then you're definitely getting the dawn effect and need to change something.
