I'm very impressed with the simplicity of your design. I'm working on the design of a tree climbing and cutting robot. Here in GA, yellow pines grow very straight and very tall...60 ft. They vare a hazard, as they grow quickly without establishing a good root system. Your design plus a 'hoop' that a saw can travel 360 degrees plus a linear actuator to control saw depth might be the solution I'm looking for. It costs $1K to $2k to have a tree company send a climber up the tree with a chainsaw, top the tree and cut sections out as he moves down the tree. If you are interested in collaborating on that idea, please reply back. I'm an electrical engineer so I'm well versed in electro-mechanical design.

your design can only help you climb poles, that too only fixed diameter poles as per your design, but never a tree. not even coconut tree.

There are springs designed as per the requirement of varying diameter. And This machine can be used to climb poles as well as tree trunk of varying diameter
