    I think part of what you have to consider in these plays is the size of these guys. They are absolutely huge so the agility and getting off the ground in the first place is huge.

    7:02 - the reason that play was impressive was because it was a kicker making the tackle. Kickers are the least athletic players on the team, usually not on the field, except for kickoffs, field goals, or extra points. They're usually the smallest guys on the team, and their leg is really their only weapon. As a result they're typically bad tacklers, because the guy carrying the ball is always faster, and stronger. So for a kicker to basically bury the return man with a picture perfect tackle was impressive.

  • @Lewis9709
    @Lewis9709 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    6:52 - he lost the ball, but the ball broke the plane of the endzone, and he had control for a second so it's a touchdown. If that had happened anywhere else on the field, it would've been a fumble and a live ball.
    On plays like this, a lot of times, the opposing coach would challenge the call and try to get the Touchdown overturned via instant replay.

      Helmets make up most of that too. The pads in pants are just pieces of foam you place in a pocket designed for them. Shoulder pads aren't all that heavy, as they're just plastic and foam.

    Every time someone jumps over another player you have to remember the average height in the NFL is around 190cm. Granted defensive backs are closer to 177 in average, but that's still not a "little jump" lol

    At 6:15 if he has possession of the ball and the ball breaks the plane of the endzone, even for a split second, it's automatically a touchdown. If that fumble occurred anywhere else on the field, it would still be a live ball, and could've been recovered by the Defense. But not at the goal line.

    7:07 the reason that play is special is because the kicker made a solid tackle which hardly ever happens. The kickers are usually the smallest most unathletic players on the team. They only need one thing and that's a strong leg. A kicker should be no match for a stronger faster player returning a kick. It's almost embarrassing for a runner to be taken down by a wimpy kicker, especially on a dominating solo tackle.

    I have really enjoyed watching you do this process with learning the NFL.....its a joy seeing someone come to learn (and hopefully eventually love) a game that most of us (your commenters) have grown up with.
    When it comes to rules, admittedly this part can be confusing, but when the player jumped over the pile and lost the ball.....its still considered a touchdown because the ball crossed over the white line (broke the plain of the endzone).....anything that happens AFTER the ball crosses the line doesn't count.....HOWEVER that same rule does NOT apply to when a player catches the ball in the endzone, only for persons running with the ball.
    As far as how impressive this video is, its hard to realize it in video, but most of these humans are running close to 20 mph, and starting/stopping/leaping & most times adjusting in mid air. Some people aren't coordinated to do this while walking around, let alone while being defended or pursued by some of the best athletes on the planet.
    In terms of videos to watch next, I think you should start focusing on single player highlights......I have a couple starting recommendations.
    Throwing: Brett Farve, Aaron Rodgers, Dante Culpepper (throws the ball very very far to Randy Moss), Dan Marino, Patrick Mahomes
    Running: Barry Sanders, LeSean McCoy, Bo Jackson, Marshawn Lynch (i'm just here so i don't get fined, lol), Mike Vick & Lamar Jackson
    Catching: Randy Moss (he's the one that caught that effortless one handed touchdown in the best catches vid), Cris Carter, Odell Beckham Jr
    Hitting: Ray Lewis, Ronnie Lott, Brian Dawkins, Ed Reed, Troy Polomalu, Lawrence Taylor
    There are soooooooo many more but this is a great place to start. Looking forward to more of your vids bro

    Baseball is by far the hardest sport to play. Hitting a major league fastball is the hardest thing to do in sport, but the fielders are extremely athletic. Check out the best infield plays. Its truly artistic.

    • @ukreacts6850

      Interesting take ... hardest but not the most dangerous, correct?

    • @Dailysiegeclips
      @Dailysiegeclips 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not the most dangerous no. There is danger involved because the pitcher throws the ball up to 100mph at the batter (160kmph) and if the batter gets hit it could cause damage. But overall the sport isnt as dangerous as football or hockey. Just skill wise its extremely difficult. Many people will tell you that hitting a major league fastball is the hardest thing to do in all of sports. And watching the fielders turn amazing plays is one of the most athletically amazing things to watch in sport.

  • @baraxor
    @baraxor 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    As long as the ball is under the player's control, the instant it "breaks the plane" of the goal line it's a touchdown and the play is over. The player could lose the ball a second later, or be shoved backward so the ball comes out of the end zone, it doesn't matter: the six points are good.
    With a catch in the end zone, if the receiver has control of the ball and can plant two feet (or another part of his body) within the end zone before going out of bounds, it's a touchdown and the play is over.
    The pylons at the corners are also in the end zone, so a player could be airborne and almost entirely outside the field of play, but if he can get the ball over that pylon without any part of his body touching the ground outside the field of play, it's a touchdown.

  • @lewis9702
    @lewis9702 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sometimes the 1 yard leaping touchdown is the most impressive because the opposing defense is all stacked up as opposed to being spread all over the field. So they're out jumping several defenders. Plus the ball carrier can't get a running start, so they're leaping almost from a standing position.

  • @BasedHawaiian

    I didn't see any good explanation why the small lifts from the knees to standing is so impressive. He doesn't use his hands at all past being on his knees. I think I know the trick he uses but actually these small lifts are the most impressive. Have some of your friends on the rugby team try it. It is a simple exercise. I would imagine only one in a 1000 (it may be more rare than that) can do it & only then with some practice & a few tricks. Most of the athletes can bounce up with their knees underneath them. But this isn't what he is doing. He lifts gently to his knees. And it isn't CGI.

    I'd definitely say the "leapfrog/hurdle" move isn't a required skill. I just watched your Barry Sanders video before this, you notice he stayed low to the ground. It's kind of an evolution of the game. Players big and strong enough to run over defenders prompt the defenders to overcommit to contact, and if the ball carrier is agile enough, he can use that to his advantage. It's still dangerous, but a calculated risk. If you notice the way some of the defenders are launching themselves, it might be more dangerous to stay the course.

    You have to be aware they have to catch the ball in bounds. That is the reason for a lot of those gymnastic moves. It was done to keep the ball in bounds either along the sidelines or in the end zone. Along the sidelines both feet must land/stay in bounds. In the end zone the ball must cross into the end zone before the player goes out of bounds or knees the ground. Once the knee of the ball carrier hits the ground the play is dead.
    This is the reason for much of the acrobatics. Within the context of the rules the moves make sense.

    Hurdling: not a requirement for a running back or wide receiver, but a talent which can come in handy, as you've seen. The one time I can think of where hurdling or forward leaping is somewhat expected are those goal-line plays where the quarterback or a running back attempts to leap over the line to move the ball a few feet to make the touchdown. Vertical jumping: you expect an excellent wide receiver to be able to leap upward over the defender to pull in a pass, as the video shows. The shots where someone is getting up from the ground: apparently those impressed whoever made the video; that's all. Good video!

      @@ukreacts6850 You can also see players touching the pylons (Foam markers that stick up on the edges of the end zone) with the ball because if the ball touches & you have not stepped or landed out of bounds its a touchdown. The pylon is considered part of the end zone. This includes people whose body is completely out of bounds but in the air & no part of their body has touched the ground, & they reach the ball out over the end zone. That's a touchdown. 8:06 What was he going to go? A lot of times in the NFL a single yard makes a huge difference. For example if you're on 4th and 3, and you get 2 yards not 3, you immediately turn the ball over to the other team and you get nothing out of the drive. That's one example of many where a single yard makes is a big deal.

    It should be noted that in American Football, "Blocks" are considered a far more aggressive action than a passive one.

    The way he gets up off the floor is impressive because he’s barely using any hands it’s all in one stride. You should try to get off the floor and see how hard it The same way he does.

    To help a little, those yellow flags were for pass interference. As a defender, you have to be either facing the ball (actively going after the ball) while also not hindering the receiver. In most of those cases you questioned the defender was not reacting/facing the ball so it'll be called for pass interference.
    Also, some of these are here because in the NFL both feet have to remain in bounds to count as a catch, so some of those reaching but keeping their feet straight is to just barely keep them in bounds to make the catch.

    You are the hardest to impress NFL reactor on TH-cam, and I watch all of them. Guy jumps like 20 feet, and you say, nice little jump there. React to bull riding wrecks. No way you'd not be impressed.

    First let me just say welcome to the US! It’s been real fun watching you react to the athleticism of the players, but I think it would be interesting to see your reaction to the culture of football, and for that I’d actually recommend college football. The NFL is great, but if you want to see true passion, tradition and sheer love for the game you have to check out college football, which contain teams over 100 years old. I’d recommend starting with Best Traditions in College Football video. Can’t wait to keep watching your journey.

    Interesting that you mentioned the variety of plays in American football v rugby which has less variety. I think you'll find the same in a baseball v cricket comparison as well. Baseball (MLB- Major League Baseball) videos you might like to react to: longest home runs, longest outfield throws, fastest infield throws, head shots, homeplate collisions. A lot of other English You Tubers have enjoyed reacting to baseball as well as American football.

      A lot of great videos on youtube about baseball, I think he'll be impressed.Remember in most countries its mostly just soccer maybe a little rugby and cricket, non-americans arent use to the enormous amount of sports we have at every level from high school to the pro level.

    I think you may underestimate how high and how far some of these jumps are. Some of these travel 6 or 7 meters. Most of the airborne catches these guys are a meter or more off the ground while making a crazy hard catch. But yes, some of them were just nice plays.
    You should check out Sports Science w/Drew Brees. It'll give you an idea just how accurate some of these QBs are.

    During the break between plays, there is a lot of strategy being thought and planned by the coaches on both teams just for the next play. You would be impressed at the level and amount of strategy that is involved in every play.
