100 RECAPitations! I have to admit, when I made a random Kingdom Hearts video 8 years ago for a friend, I did not think I would stick around and keep making more of these. Thank you all for watching and supporting me, your comments (the good, bad and nitpicky) and contributions have made this all possible. I have long reserved one of my favorite games of all time for this milestone, and what more needs to be said? It's no secret this game is constantly rated as one of the best RPGs of all time, where the fun and creative story, and how its told, is only part of how great it is.
That being said, I am moving soon, and with all the social distancing quarantines, I have been able to do more the last few weeks but I will basically be on hiatus the month of April, maybe into the month of May (we'll see). Until then, you can still find me on my Discord and Twitter (links in description), and I would ask your patience until I return. Thank you again for joining me on the 100 adventures so far, and here's to many more. I'll see you on the next battlefield.
You are such a failure!
@@Scorch428 Um, what?
Love all your work! I travel often and I love nothing more than putting my headphones on and listen to some RECAPitations. THANK YOU!
Oni Black Mage your uploads are always worth the wait no matter how long. Be safe take care of yourself
You have made me into a fan with you FF6 Recapitation. And now I became a fan for life. Take your rest, friend. You sure as hell deserved it. Can't wait to see what game you have for us next.
I always get goosebumps when ever Glenn pulls the masamune out of the ground and lifts it in the air @13:23
"Tis nary a thing I cannust do" *Glenn Slices a mountain open*
When you started with the "Chrono Trigger has enjoyed the success of...", I was like WAIT. But then you went through the multiple endings like a boss.
Bless you, sir.
Even the remake ending that begins the tie into chrono cross
I gotta say, I'm so incredibly appreciative of the work you do with these videos! I played the majority of these growing up and I want nothing more than the stories and experiences to be shared with others, but many are not willing to get into older games, RPGs, or just longer games in general. Your videos provide a way for them to experience much of it in a detailed, entertaining, and easily consumable way. I've been lurking for a while, but I couldn't avoid commenting because now you're doing Chrono Trigger, my favorite video game of all time. I'm looking forward to the video!
A 40 minute Chrono Trigger video?? 10/10 already!!
Oni Black Mage I love these Recapitations. It allows me to relive the games of my past. Especially when the game is text only and I just want to listen to the story.
This game is a masterpiece.
@Special Noone is that a legit sequel ? I've been playing it a bit.
This game was a true gem amongst Jrpg's.Ill never forget when this game was released in the U.S.,so many memories and fun times. An rpg that was designed to be replayed time and time again, its very rare that a game can offer so much value without one being overwhelmed by its aperture and breadth,CT is very much that adventure imho.Great recap!
Can't believe it's 100 recaps already. I originally found your channel when I was looking for a recap of the Danganronpa games in order to get into the anime. April 25th will mark 5 years here for me, glad to have seen the channel grow in the ways it had. Looking forward to whatever the future brings, and I hope you're doing well and staying safe during this crazy time.
It's pretty crazy how Chrono and Marle defeat sorceresses, future mutants, dinosaurs, and an interplanetary parasite, and then are killed by some random Joe in the Porre invasion.
It is one of the what was all that leveling for if a joe blow with normal weapons kill you? Would love for an rpg that you level up get skills and become unkillable only to be called the demon lord
@@rudeondude21That's called Disgaea
Variann in wow legion xpac be like
Huh? Since when did chrono and Nadia get killed by a random joe
@@adventureoflinkmk2end of Chrono trigger on Ps1 shows an anime scene. Also Chrono cross hints at the fall of the kingdom when poore invades
I'm very happy your 100th episode is my favorite! Good luck in your endeavors. Stay safe and healthy. We'll be here waiting for your next one.
Simply the best time travel game. BTW in NG+ you can go straight to fighting the final boss. Probably a first. I played this many times to get all the endings. Great memories. Years later I played it again on the NDS.
NDS?
Nintendo DS. The game was remade for the DS.
@@sethh1943It was also ported to the PS1, Mobile/iOS, and PC.
First Legend of Legaia now Chrono Trigger? You are a wonderful awesome person Oni.
Not just a great game, but one of the best pieces of consumable media ever created. Period.
I love how the DS version had multiple ties to Chrono Cross. Guardia falling to Porre, Lucca finding Kid, Magus becoming Guile, the Masamune being lost to the ravages of war. It's all so well thought out. I wish a focused (and far less party bloated) remake of Chrono Cross would get made to neatly tidy up all those threads.
Congratulations on reaching 100 recapitulations !
I love your videos, keep up the good work :)
I haven’t even watched the video yet but it’s you and you’re talking about Chrono Trigger so I automatically click “Like”. XD
OBM is gonna come back stronger than ever. If I were to recommend a game: I'd recommend Wild Arms and surprisingly Eternal Sonata.
I still have the disk for Wild Arms, such an amazing game.
My friend used to make fun of for loving that game. He'd flail his arms wildly every time.
@@Terrakinetic I just modded my ps3 and put all the old school PS1 Rpgs on it. Wild Arms and Chrono Cross included...
Bryan frye crazy how they said ps3 could never be hacked. They not only hacked it they even got the keys to it
You say Wild Arms, I’ll throw out Grandia, Thousand Arms, Breath of Fire 4
I honestly think this is the best game ever made, it’s story and aesthetics are so unique
Ever since I was a kid, I would recap this story in my head whenever I'm bored. Now I'm hyped to let you do it for me!
Can't wait for you to cover Brave Fencer Musashi!
Thanks for the video. Loved how you covered all the possible endings. Seeing all this reminded me why I loved the game back in the day!
Keep it up and look forward to new uploads!
I think this is your best work. I mean you always do an amazing job, but this is your best one right here
25th anniversary of the greatest RPG of all time. This is going to be good.
I played this game 100s of times and it never gets old
It's such a fun game that I keep replaying it and when I'm near the end I always have the feeling of having just started.
Everything about this game is awesome! First played it when it first released on the SNES back when I was 15. I’m almost 40 years old and I bought it for my iPhone and still play it to this day.
I played new game + too many times that all char has star levels
I totally agree.
26:34 Melchior was sent to Present era (Crono's era), not in Middle ages which is Frog's era
Edit 1: Aww, if Magus was included in battle against Zeal, it would have given storytelling nice addition as Magus is facing his mother
and speaks his mind about her weakness for succumbing to Lavos's power
He does this if you fight Zeal in the black ship right I forget
Thanks for these super well done videos for years. It's super nice to be able to just relax and watch a nice breakdown of an old game you enjoyed decades ago. Can even recommend to my friend who never got through Chrono Trigger. Appreciate the effort, hope these continue to be fun for you to make because I'll definitely continue to enjoy them.
your videos are amazing, I've been watching them for a few years. would love to see you tackle the silent hill series. the final fantasy and xenogears and saga series are definitely my favorites but I've enjoyed the resident evil and legend of dragoon work as well. the Mario rpg/paper Mario stuff would be awesome as well!
Hes done saga 1 2 and 3 and gears, love that game by the way. And he's done dragoon
Yes!!! I’ve been a long time sub and I cannot explain how happy I was to see you covered Chrono Trigger!!!
Picking up the “KID”......
Ha I get it
I see so this is where Chrono cross began eh
One of the few games I've ever seen give a valid and legitimate reason as to why your party is the number of members it is for battle.
Amazing video, as usual, keep up the good job man.
It's like you read my mind! So stoked to watch this. Already hit the "like" button! Keep up the good work. :)
A great recap of a true masterpiece! I hope you have a good rest of your day
So many endings. Cool time travel at it’s finest.
*Me before the video starts* Man...I wonder if he's gonna do all the endings or just the cannon one...
*ONB at **37:57* Chrono Trigger has enjoyed the success of selling 3.9 million copies worldwide.
*Me seeing there's still 10 minutes left to the video* Oh...my...god...HE'S DOING IT!
Crono Cross of course
and Brave Fencer Musashi if possible. long forgotten
He did chrono cross
I would really love to see you do a recap on rogue galaxy one of my favorite games that doesn't get the credit it deserves and alot of people could love it with a recap
Oh man, I didn't know Mitsuda-san also did the composition in Shadow Hearts! I loved that game, too! Thank you for that tidbit of knowledge
amazing editing at the end
This is really good. Thanks for the well told trip down memory lane.
Awesome dude I’ve been waiting for this one
Congrats on a new great video! I hope this channel grows much more, because you deserve it!
By the way, I noticed that writing anything including the word "black" will make youtube not show any suggestions. I think that might make it more difficult to find your channel. Have you considered changing your channel's name a bit?
PS: please consider doing the Golden Sun series! I know you'd make some great videos with that for sure!
I've been Oni Black Mage longer than youtube has existed, so I'm keeping my handle. Golden Sun is a good suggestion though.
Pre nap me: im bored im gonn take a nap
Post nap me: Theres a motha fin chrono trigger recapatation!!!!
So was the kingdom of Guardia falling at the end an the sword dissappearing was is Dalton coming back with that army he spoke about making? Would be nice thread tied up there
i come back to this every now and then, so good
Been 20 years since averting the Day of Lavos, only to find ourselves in an even greater challenge ahead. Stay safe and healthy, everyone!
Hey super nice video on one of my favorite games of all time.
I love how Chrono Trigger Rick Rolled everyone xD
I have a suggestion for you: Live A Live
Please make a video of this gem for your series. Live A Live is AWESOME!
SO GLAD you included the DS content; makes the transition to Chrono Cross much less rickety.
I want to get my hands on a DS version of Chrono Trigger. I love any video game that has time travel elements!
This Game is so wild. Finally played it recently and it is quite the experience. Incredible Soundtrack too
48:44 picking up the "Kid" nicely done lol
Great recap, and I appreciated the extra to show all the endings.
Just letting you know, I just bought the GBA Castlevania games on PS4 and when I complete each one, I will return to watch your recaps.
At this point, all I want is a Chrono Trigger REMAKE. It's been 25 years and counting bois... :(
Also remake: is this released across multiple disks/computer programs episodically, or game redone with better graphics and music
OBM is fantastic! love watching all of these "What happened in" , reminds me of my childhood. Keep it up!!!
Damn. Now I am going to have to play this game again soon. Can't wait. With the Coronavirus I have time. May start a game tonight.
It must have been awkward when Cyrus’ ghost saw Frog and Magus working on a same team
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS SINCE YOU DID CHRONO CROSS!!!!!
FINALLY THE PROMISED RECAP IS HERE!!
seriously though, these videos are always top notch and by far heads and shoulders above others that do similar things. I really wish you could do the Legend of Zelda series but i remember when you addressed that last year i believe. Have you looked to see if you could do a general video on the Zelda timeline itself with out any copy right issues?
Good news in that since then, Nintendo has lifted their whitelist banning, so Zelda and other nintendo 1st party is back on the table
Epic Story and a great recap.I Wish there we're more Games Like this.
Earthbound please!!!
You should totally due a recapitation for Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology! The story in that game is absolutely epic.
Awesome video, you deserve more views!
So what ever happened to Crono? Did he become king? Have kids? Get killed in the fall of Guardia? Wander off somewhere? Did Marle live through it? Is any of that answered in Chrono Cross or elsewhere? It's one of the most popular early RPG's of all time so I imagine I'm not the only weirdo who's asked.
If I remember right, chrono and marle died in the fall of Guardia. It was the porre army lead by Dalton. Chrono cross explains it in more detail.
one of the rare JRPG (or RPG in general) that has multiple ending... 13 multiple ending. XD
The character Ayla was taken directly from Clan Of The Cave Bear. I noticed that right away than first time I played Chrono Trigger.
ChronoTrigger: An absolute amazing game made by the greatest musician, artist and JRPG creator.
Also ChronoTrigger: *_STOP MESSING WITH THE FUCKING TIMELINE!!!_*
Still waiting on my Dragon Quest trilogy!!
Ima simple man. I see Chrono Trigger, I click video. My favorite game ever. Even more than Pokemon.
I love Lucca so much. I hate what the sequel did to her
17:34 Earthbound
It's about TIME!!! ...(cuz it's about time travel? derrrrp) But also--yeah, I've been waiting for a RECAPitation of this, one of the greatest RPGs of all time. Love these videos!
to be a fly on the wall when they are talking about creating the setting of 90's rpgs:
"we want the player to feel like it's saturday morning when they start the game, the first day of school at the end of the first act, soccer practice halfway through, halloween in the third act, take everything away for a moment but then give them super powers at the end"
40:15
This also happens if the group successfully defeats Lavos when they encounter it in the Ocean Palace.
I'm playing a romhack of this here and there, and even though I'm likely to be incarcerated for saying this, but I didn't like this game as much as the masses. That having been said, it is certainly great, and in the original version, I do wish the speech of NPCs in Frog's era mimicked his manner of speaking. The original version just makes his speech-based characterization curious at best because literally no one else uses his mannerisms. Nonetheless, this is a well-written time travel adventure that tugs at my tears at the end of the team's first encounter with Lavos, and, putting their money where their writing is, allowing the players to still complete the game without rescuing the friend they lost. By today's standards, this is still a remarkably impressive feat of storytelling and I fully understand why so many people love this game with such fervor and passion. Many of the eras Crono and company explore feel like their own, fleshed out worlds with their own concerns, values, and even cultural mannerisms in some cases. Very excellent game, and yet I can't name it as one of my personal favourites. Does that make any sense?
Also, I let Lucca hug Crono. Your take on the additional endings were hilarious. :D
It probably doesn't, but I still view this as a fully worthy choice for RECAPitation ONE-HUNDRED~! Congratulations on another series cleared. Be safe and healthy going forward, and with any luck, I'll meet you on the next battlefield.
I fucking love your channel. Ive spent hours being fascinated from all the stories you tell lol
Great work man!
Can’t wait! 😍
wow love your videos man. can you do lunar silver star story?
I've got a small bit of a disconnect here...
Guardia falls 5 years after present of CT. Meaning Chrono/Marle/Lucca are all still alive, still there... and still three heroes who were capable of going head-to-head with a being capable of destroying the planet.
... and Guardia loses?
Dalton is confirmed to not only amass a Porrean army, but to seek help from other creatures from others times.
Crono and co. might have lived and maybe even put the conflict on a halt, but that alone is not enough to ensure that a large portion of Guardia wasn't ravaged
Guardia sure loses, but by Chrono Cross it's still a dominant kingdom and is recovering well.
For the future whould it be a burden to you to, when covering time-travel games, put in small font what time the events we're watching on screen at a given time of the vid happen? Thank you for the video :)
You know, with how many time travel games I end up covering, that's a good idea, thanks.
Ya a bit like which storyline we're on in your Zero escape games. By the way the videos pushed to try that seriess thanks!
I remember playing chrono trigger back on the snes. It was an amazing game.
The 2nd best review on YT!!! Xygor gaming has my 1st!!! I love all you Jrpg TH-camrs!!!!😊😊😊
RIP Akira Toriyama.
This game is a huge part of my life as a gamer.
So much time travel and still, an easier plot to follow than FF XIII
This is one of the best games of all times...a fairy tale that you are the protagonist that's how I felt as a boy
I played this game when It first released on the SNES. I was fifteen years old and I still play it today. I’m almost 40 years old now lol. Have it in my iPhone.
Should also note that there are some small dialogue changes and a very big extra reveal in the DS version of Chrono Trigger, summed up
Azala asks Ayla to "Look after" the planet after her defeat, showing she is graceful in her loss with the two leaders showing mutual respect.
Chrono and Marle marry after the ending while Lucca finds a lost child with a curious pendant, deciding to take the child with her, eventually starting an orphanage.
There is an optional dungeon after the main game where Chrono and the crew can cross paths with some personal demons of varying types, allowing each of them to unlock extra power for themselves, however once this is all done they eventually cross into another dimension where an alternate Magus has arrived (If your Magus is here, he even comments as such to differentiate the two), he has found Schala and is trying to free her, as Lavos from that time has captured and started to fuse with her. The group fight the Dream Devourer as that Magus is knocked away and despite their best efforts, they are unable to ultimately stop it. Schala does eventually awaken as Magus returns but her consciousness has started to become absorbed by the DD, she speaks with deep depression and sadness of all the conflict, seemingly losing her will to live from all the chaos that has been wrought from her life. Magus pleads for Schala not to give up and reaffirms he wishes to save her, Schala is touched and even calls him Janus for the first time in his adult life, before saying that no power as he sees it will save her, before using her very last power to send Magus out of the dimensional hole, resigning herself to her fate. Magus feels a loss of all purpose of his life after this, deciding that he has nothing left to live her and casts away his consciousness, inducing loss of memory and letting his body wander with no memories to find new purpose.
Love these videos by the way, you do a great job!
I only played the typical run and didn't see any of the alternate endings. Sometime after that my game was stolen by someone (probably a friend of my brothers.) I was upset, but I understood it was a game and I had "already beaten it", and got over it. Didn't learn about the different endings until many years later, so by that time my. Reaction was just "Damn, really? All well."
This is quite a telling!
the final boss
titled Lavos Core
is very easy if you gave all strength tabs to crono and all magic tabs to robo
and use them
and then use any other character
preferably marle or magus
due to healing / strong multiple hit
What is Chrono Trigger....... it's about a redheaded mute who goes on a time traveling adventure.
Still love your stuff
Waiting for the lunar games recapitations still
Always wondered why Frog used a sword when he had such massive guns.
those 'guns' are needed to use the sword... iirc, masamune is pretty heavy.
Maybe a suggestion ; Have you ever played the Etrian Odyssey Series? It was a lesser known rpg series on the DS and 3DS. I recommend checking them out. Recapitation or to just play them! Keep up the good work OBM.
Oh, I've played all the Etrian Odyssey series, I agree its a fun series ... I haven't done a rogue-like game for a Recapitation yet, so that's a good suggestion, thanks!
I freaking love Chrono Trigger :) :) :)
I'm surprised you haven't done this game till now
ooo the train station form the end of time i cant wait to go back home this world wears me out place your hand on the wall hehe
