I do honestly prefer the Bjork cover. When I first saw Bjork in concert, years ago, it was a smaller venue and I managed to get in the centre right by the stage, she certainly has a very powerful voice to say the least! 😀

I had never heard the original. I didn't realise how closely Bjork had covered it. I think I prefer Bjork's version but only just.

the björk version was done in one take! An anecdote about the recording of it is on ep263 of ‘My Time Capsule’ with guest, John Altman. I encourage you to listen to this man’s amazing life, but if you want to skip, the Björk story starts on 37:00.

I like both but Björk seems to have a stronger voice. Maybe because of the recording quality? She screams better too lol
Also people think Björk is crazy but a lot of it is just she has a weird sense of humor. She will say things because she is amused by the reactions. She has said she decided long ago she was going to have fun and do things her way and if people think she’s weird or crazy then that’s their problem. She’s too busy having fun

I'll go with Bjork & hope to one day hear her version of No by The Associates which she shelved after the suicide of Associates singer the mad genius Billy MacKenzie. Nice comparison 👍

Has anyone noticed that often the most interesting songs ( musically) are overlooked in favour of others that are lightweights in terms of character and musicality?

Didn't realize this was a cover tbh and I'm quite surprised how close Bjork stuck to the original. She obviously put her own twist on it, as you say, by modernizing it and adding her own quirkyness. 😁
The Betty Hutton version sounds great but it sounds like she's just singing lyrics and is (was!) trying to get it technically correct wheras Bjork is just singinging from the heart.
Totally agree with your decision, I prefer Bjork's version as well.
Could you guys please do Guns N Roses, ‘Live And Let Die’ vs Mcartney's original version? 😊

I feel a bit foolish for also not knowing this was a cover for all these years. Perhaps the jazzy feel of the song should have given it away, but I thought it was just Bjork being creative and trying a retro sound for a change.

@@peterwalsh2470 I'm pretty sure that's what Bjork's marketing team wanted everyone to think as well! 😁

Little Miss Welcome to Bangkok used to play betty's song all the time before shows and on the coach on her Debut tour.
Have to disagree that bjorks sounds wilder- bettys version is very rough and ready for that time period, she sounds like Judy garland doing drunken karaoke and having a ball.
Bjork nearly never sings this song on tours after Post album.
Have u heard bjorks live version with her dolphin noises?

Betty Hutton in my opinion has a greater vocal range than Bjork and always seemed to have fun with her singing, she was also an accomplished actress. You may not know that Betty disappeared for several years and was found washing floors in a care home.

Björk is actually a pretty good actress too. She won Best Actress at Cannes for the musical Dancer in the Dark. The movie is so sad though, will rip your heart out. She had such a bad experience with the director she said she never wanted to act again. She does have a small but important part in The Northman that came out recently.
