Anyone who tells you to skip part 2-3 is not a true friend even if in own time do before part 4, so you can see the progression and still hear Bars
I will check them out in order -- thank you for watching and commenting
@@HIM_066xMusicReactions No Problem was great reaction your thoughts was good on it liked what had to say! :D Welcome to the Knowledge-Seekers (:
agreed , anyone who saying skip is purely on it for the flow or whatever , his progression alone is worth seeing..... how you could want to skip 3 is just lame lmao
Don’t jump straight to part 4, watch all of them, 1-4!
@laughingoutloud8612 For sure -- I got you
The town he was talking about is not in the UK. He is talking Tulsa oklahoma(Black wall street). The MTV reference is not literal. He is referring to the videos that were shown on there helping to shape popular culture
I don't know if it is because I watched BET more than MTV growing up but I feel like MTV's impact on hip-hop differs from Akala pov. His comments about mtv for me ring true about BET while MTV for me did shape the culture but more so in a lets push white rappers like Asher Roth, Iggy etc. at the expense of the Trinas and Guccis of that era. What are your thoughts @united46?
You don't get ot
@@deebazzi I understand, however, it might just be a generational disconnect for me regarding the MTV and BET I grew up with vs the one Akala is talking about. I appreciate you commenting I was just looking to get a different perspective -- life is all about learning and I appreciate everyone's opinions. Stay blessed 💯
@@HIM_066xMusicReactions that's all good. I think MTV was more global.
He just uses MTV because it's 12 years old...he's basically saying popular media..celebrities and trends heavily shape the way the world thinks
Akala is a very smart man. He lectures at Oxford and Cambridge uni and has a genius IQ
Oh wow I thought he was just a dope lyricist
literally tried to disagree with everything he blessed us with😂. don't disagree as a default the man is a scholar and wouldn't say anything other than facts. he's also a lecturer and author.and self publishes everything he does. akala is different he's basically our modern day shakespeare.
I’ll be 35 this year. I’m also from the uk, same as Akala and I can confirm that back in the day, when I was 13-16yrs old roughly, mtv was the one for all different genres of music, mainly R’n’B because that was the main genre that was popular back then.
MTV was just THAT channel!
So what he’s saying is, those music videos that got played on mtv during that time, if in their lyrics they were bigging up “popping magnums” then everyone on the streets would suddenly think they’re big and wanna go “pop magnums” even though the majority wouldn’t even have a clue what that term meant 😂
That’s what he means when he says “if mtv said” hope that helps give some context.
I’m sure the accent barrier makes it difficult sometimes
Respect 🇯🇲
Nice, refresh YT and this was on the top, then I get shout. ❤
Part 4 has a "spoken word opera" section while you're talking about whether he does different things.
Ooo "spoken word opera" I am looking forward to listening. Stay blessed @Kolor-kode
yup , 3 is probs my fave along with 4 , its just outstanding in everyway. people like akala makes me proud to be English , not them fake suits or fads out there. him, mic righteous and lowkey. need to do all there fitb's in order , don't skip any of them.
and btw NOT gay but your eye's look really freaking cool Lol , bit of a weird comment i know :P peace and love from England 🕊🕊🕊🕊
@123456twat Thank you for watching and commenting. I got you g -- I will add lowkey to the list. Stay blessed
He's not talking about crumbs of food, he's talking about £££
Ah makes sense -- thanks for breaking that down for me @Monkee2112
Did MTV have influence and you doubt it?
Mate the entire world dressed and acted differently when nirvana hit.
Cultures are spread by popular media, which mtv had a monopoly on….
when the kids see the postcode grime artist on the social media, it changes an entire generation’s though patterns and behaviour.
“market bedness to the kids in the ryhmes”
You ever see the boondocks episode where Huey watched BET for 2 weeks or something 😂😂
I hear you @Sharmac77, however, in the US we had other platforms such as BET and...I mean, you can even make the argument that radio stations like hot 97 had a choke hold on hip-hop and black culture for far too long
@makoto3212 😂😂😂
You should do all 4 in order. All of them are good. Everyone likes part 4, but Part 3 is one of my favourites also.
I can def do that thanks for watching @alexisdonaldson3430
Please dont just do part 1 and 4 all of them are moving great reaction bro from the uk
@liamspence4334 I got you g -- stay blessed
It's funny you said "It's crazy they would have picnics" while watching a black man get hung.
The word "picnic" was previously "picknig", short for "pick a n****r".
Families would go to the park with blankets and food and pick out a "convict" to be hung.
That is mad -- Thank you for educating me @ReedoTV. I appreciate you
AND it's important to know he was talking about the US history there, not UK. The KKK never existed in the UK.
@@drum253and we never had “lynchings” of black people in the U.K. to my knowledge! Especially not 60 years ago. Pretty sure that’s exclusively an American thing!
K Koke fitb 🔥🔥
💯 Say less -- I got you @krislaight5781
You missed so many bars and when he was on about lynching he was on about America not the uk
@simongreenaway4891 I know Akala is one of those artists where you catch a new bar every time you listen. I am also trying to balance video length and find the sweet spot where I can give the people who don't like long videos what they want as well as those who don't care how many times I pause ....lol and it is kind of hard but I will get there -- I appreciate your patience
Tulsa in the uk? Lol
You never know😂🤣 we got a Manchester, Essex, London and more in my state
Jumping from here straight to part four would be ridiculous, in my opinion.
Its called part four for a reason. Its because its the fourth PART. To skip part 2&3 ,just makes no sense whatsoever and would be monumentally disrespectful, I think. It is one piece of work in 4 parts. Do you only read the first and last quarters of books?
Makes absolutely no sense.
My big criticism of this reaction was stopping every 4 bars and GUESSING what he is saying or is about to say, often then continuing with the performance with the wrong notion of what he is saying. Of course its a reaction video and of course your view is the whole point and, therefore, pauses are necessary, but, not so frequently, maybe and with not guessing, but, rather, really listening, would improve this no end. He is Dr Akala, writes bestseller books, novels lectures worldwide as well as at Oxford University. He holds two doctorates....he kinda knows what he's doing. That doesn't mean you have to like him of course, but, allowing more flow so as to really grasp what he was saying, would have improved this greatly, I feel. Glad you got to hear him. Personally, id say listen, privately, to it again a few more times before moving onto part 2, 3 and 4.
PS the KKK do not exist in the UK, that section was addressing issues in USA- that was missed and confused mainly by, I feel, the too frequent pauses. I do appreciate, however, that his Camden accent (London) may, possibly, be harder to follow - especially at speed - if you're not from UK and used to hearing similar...maybe?
Good to see you anyone checking him out though and my criticisms are all meant in good faith, humour and full respect. Its only my opinion, of course.
Cheers...please listen again to this though, with no distractions..you missed a lot and he really is worth it. He's such an educator.
All the best fella. 👍
