- This Video shows a comprehensive install of Mountune's Sport Springs. Please comment if you have any questions and give me a thumbs up if you like the video and do not forget to SUBSCRIBE for future videos like this! A big thanks to a quality company Mountune USA at www.mountuneusa.com
Can't wait for these to be released in the UK. If they are anything like the Mountune springs for the Fiesta ST then there was a definite improvement in the ride quality and took away the pogo / jiggle effect of the standard springs.
+mugenmark There is no jiggle with these and I'm not going to say they are not as tight as RACE but handle it in a different way with the springs being stiffer instead of just the struts.
another great install video you make it look so easy chris.
+mohammed bostan Practice and Penitence.
good video, keep us posted on the ride
+Zander13 Productions I will have an in car video review posting tonight!
Great vid! I really like your vids. Very informative. Can you kindly comment on ride impressions after installing these? Same level of stiffness as stock or perhaps more stiff? Less bouncy? Thanks
+gmannym3 a bit stiffer with almost no bounce. I have an in car review coming tonight.
+Christopher Ayres. That's great to hear! Thank you. Looking forward to it
+gmannym3 should see it tonight!
great video Chris, can't wait to see it in action.
+Charlie Times I have an in car review coming tonight.
Good deal...see you then.
+Charlie Times Yes Sir.
Hey Chris, thanks for the video! I will be doing this today, what do you recommend for torquing the bolts back on? Or just about as hand tight as you can get?
Looks pretty good , Chris ! Good Show !
+gpn854 Thank you much!
nice glad it's warmed up to do this Chris. I would like to know how much these will settle after you break them in. and ride quality
+NocoPBMLS2 So far I can only see them getting better.
Thanks for another great video, Chris. Once you get a chance to drive it let us know if the "pogo" effect is reduced or not with these springs from stock.
+HanksRS I am doing an in car review. So far that effect is gone due to the stiffer springs.
@@ChristopherAyresfrs2 If you wanted to lower the car a little bit more say 3/4 of an inch to 1 inch would you be running into any problems with the wheels rubbing or the undercarriage running into problems with speed bumps etc? I’ll probably go with the Mountune springs but if there’s an alternative that you recommend I might consider doing it if it lowers the car a little bit more.
Chris , Does the tie rod need to be disconnected to let the swing assembly lower ?
+gpn854 no it does not. It may make it a bit easier to push the knuckle down but is not needed, and unless your careful or getting an alignment right after you could through you caster off disconnecting it.
+gpn854 no it does not. It may make it slightly easier to drop the knuckle, but unless you plan on an immediate alignment it may through your caster off if not careful. I did not remove mine and had no issue.
Thanks again from good and informative video.
Did you measure how much lower to the ground car is now sitting in real life? Car look like it's maybe one inch lower than before. Ride comfort level changes are also interesting things heard from you in next vid.
+J M Yes. The front went down about 3/4" and the rears a little bit less. Yes ill have an in car review tonight as far as the ride it feels the same on bumps except it doesn't give you that recoil feel or bobbing feel, especially on the freeway. They feel like your in sport mode without the extra bounce the stock springs have from the dampers being stiffer than the springs. They do make freeway driving quite a bit more exciting around the corners as there is pretty much no body roll now. They still are not as stiff as race mode though. Thank You on the Video. The in car review should answer a lot of questions.
Hey Chris.. Did the springs dampen some of the bounce the RS has on uneven roads ???
They did a very good job of limiting it a ton! If you want it all the way gone go with some ST or KW coil overs, or Eibach pros. I think the eibach put it a tad low but are stiffer. The Mountune are lower but have the factory spring rates still.
I really like your videos, are you self taught or a trained mechanic?
+Norml B A bit of everything. Lol. I got my ASE license back in high school. Work for ford in salary launching the Focus, focus electric, focus ST, C-Max, and the RS in Germany. I learned most of what I know from there. You don't manage over 5 million foci built and not retain some good information. 🙂 lol. Thank you for the comment!
Hi Chris, since the car is lowered by the springs, are the oem drop links still ok to use without too much swaybar preload? Thanks, Anthony
No. The stock suspension components support the springs well.
Did you need an alignment after the install?
Yes. Anytime you change anything on your suspension you should get an alignment. Even just wheels.
Christopher Ayres... so the lower springs gave the front increased camber?
Yes.
Christopher Ayres from the factory 1 degree to?
About -2.5
hey chris how much where these for a set!
They are around 189 USD I believe.
Christopher Ayres thanks.man miss your videos on the rs! Helps me make decisions.
I know. I’ve been sooo busy with work and don’t have the balls to TH-cam full time. Lol.
Nice video. Do you know how to get the HID Lamp outside the Headlight? I removed the Headlight by removing the two Screws and Plug whos holding it. Turnlight is easy to get out but i didnt managed it to get the Xenonbulb out. Is there a trick?
+Foxslayer I have not done this but usually HD D series bulbs just pull straight out.
Christopher Ayres Okay thank you. Then i probably pulled too soft. Didnt wanted to break the Headlights.
+Foxslayer Again I have not pulled one out of the new Focus yet but on my Euro SVT which came with HID DS2 bulbs I just pulled it straight out of the connector. The bulb came straight out of the plastic it was in.
What brand of torque wrench do you use Chris?
+RayRay Hernandez 3/4 Craftsman 1/2 Snap-On.
Hi Chris, is the diameter of the front mountune springs larger than the oem? I'm asking because I already have some spring rubbing the strut tower with my camber plate and -2.2 camber setting
When I overlay them they are the same diameter.
Nice. Thanks ! one last qq. Did you notice an increase in front camber with the car lowered by 1/2 inch?
Yes. About -1.0-1.5 in addition to stock. That may be your issue is your 0 is probably -1-1.5.
Nice. I may just remove my GC camber plates. It only gave me like 0.2 degrees and I have to deal with the rattle noise. Hopefully, I can get -2.5 with the stock camber plates and lower springs. Just waiting for my recall cylinder head to arrive. Dealer says it takes a month. So I'm driving car with coolant in one of the cylinders!!!
Wow. That’s a long time. The more you ruin the engine the more they have to replace the long block. 😉
thanks for doing these videos
+Miami Daily Driver Thank you for watching. I hope I do my installs and Reviews justice for everyone, and if you ever have a question I answer every single comment I receive. Thank yo for joining the family and look forward to a lot of future content including a project I am doing directly for an aftermarket supplier, you can probably guess who. Again I approximate you taking anything away from these videos than anything else!
Hey Chris! Impressive! Where did you learn all those skills?
+Julien Durand I've built 3 cars. Just over trial and error. It's not as hard as people usually think it is.
Respect to you sir.
+Julien Durand No. I've just done this stuff quite a few times. Learn a new way every time you do it. Thank You.
Sorry Chris. Did you mean I can use my oem links?
Yes. With no issue.
Nice vid !!!
+Danny Colonne Thank You!
Take Pics before you de-assemble, it helps later
mac dawg will do that makes sense, my only issue is keeping retention when I make the vids to long but I don’t do it for the money I do it so people that are intimidated to do their own work have something to use. I’ll remember that on my next video👍
Hey Chris, thanks for this video. It made my install less daunting.
On another subject. Moutune is now selling a triple pass radiator made by CSF. Do you think it will make a difference in lowering the oil and ptu temps on the track? The coolant also flows to the ptu.. I already have a moshi oil cooler but my temps are still above 260.
Thanks, Anthony
