      This is a very simple device. If you think of it as a voice only device, it is easy to use. It would certainly not be my first choice for working from home unless voice is all you need.

    A demonstration of the T9 texting would have been helpful to see exactly how it works. I'm finding out that T9/Predictive varies a lot across phones and some are way more tedious and dumb than others.

    Fun fact: if you double press the app tray button, it takes you to a recent apps screen, ie a crude form of multitasking. You can fully close apps from this screen by highlighting an app using the d-pad and pressing the clear button.

    A couple of questions, I think with call quality in mind and it being sturdy would think make a good senior phone? I have tried just about every other flip phone ( mainly) the actel phones and doro and they all seem to have bad voice quility and bad speaker quility. I only wish that this phone had talk to text or at least a way to get that feature. Also could you turn on the FM radio without the headset plugged in?

    • @Bryanthecellphoneguy

      This would make an excellent phone for Senior usage. It is basic in layout, has white numbers on a black background for visibility and a loud ringer. You will need a headset to use the radio.

    I got this phone for my husband who is very challenged with cell phones and the cheap flips at ATT were not working well. ATT gave us this phone and it is really hard to operate :( How can I block #'s on it. I have read the manual but no directions. Any ideas on good flip phones? I am very advanced in phones but this phone gets the best of me

    • @Bryanthecellphoneguy
      @Bryanthecellphoneguy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Becky,
      This really is a great Flip phone for basic use. To block a number push the menu button, (centre Top) choose Phone, push menu (Top Left) Call settings,Call blocking, Menu, add number, enter the phone number you want blocked and choose block. If the number has recently called you and is in the call log, select it, push menu and select Block number. Pretty much everything that is done on the phone is done with three buttons, Menu, OK and options. Menu is top centre, OK is the centre of the square and options is the top left. I hope this helps.

      Hi, Sorry to hear you are struggling with this phone. I can help. First the open to answer part. The default is, open the flip and push send to answer. This is to give you the choice of rejecting the call and sending a text message. Most people would just rather have it open to answer and close to hang up. Here is how to change that. Menu - Phone - OK- Options button ( the one above C) - Call settings - OK- Open/close flip -OK - Turn both settings on.
      Notification light. This will be on whenever you have a missed called text message. completed download etc. From the home screen push the options button. (Top Left button). Select my notifications, press OK, press options, select clear all and press OK
      I hope this helps.

    Thanks for sharing how the UI and nav button work. I was going to get this for a senior with mild dementia, but I think the UI (especially that middle button) is a bit too far away from what he’s used to. He’ll pop himself into apps without wanting to. Shame, because it’s impossible to find a rugged flip phone with decent sound quality that’ll work on 4G & LTE networks. Back to the drawing board. Know of any other flip phones with interfaces like for example the ZTE or Alcatel flip phones? (which I know are infinitely worse in every respect than the Sonim. But there’s no point if a person can’t work the phone.)

    • @Bryanthecellphoneguy
      @Bryanthecellphoneguy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think the trick is to show them the basics only. Any phone can easily become overwhelming. Teach how to dial, push send and hang up. The only other thing to need to show them is that if anything shows on the screen that you dont recognize or understand, push the red button. That's it.Nothing else. No other phone is simpler to use.

    • @Bryanthecellphoneguy

      Hi Sherry. It's a rwo part process. First you have to enter a contact and then you can assign a speed dial number to the first 9 contacts. To create a contact go to the app tray button ( top centre 9 dot button), contacts, OK, Menu, add contact, OK.
      You can now assign a speed dial number to the first 8 contacts in the list. Make a call to the contact you just created. This will put them into the call log. Push the send button to bring up the call history and highlight the person you want. Press the menu key and choose speed dial settings and OK. Repeat the process or add a few contact first and then you can assign them to speed dials 2 through 9. You can only set 8 speed dial numbers as number 1 is reserved for voicemail. The rest of your contacts can be dialed directly from the Contacts list. Hope this helps.

      There are very few companies still making flip phones and those who are focus on what they feel the flip phone customer wants. Flip phones tend to sell to those who want to only make phone calls and have inexpensive phone bills. Flip phones also by their very nature have small screens which restricts what you could have available to touch. The average flip phone screen is 15-20% the size of a smart phone. To spend the R&D dollars to develop software for tiny screen when the vast majority of buyers want ever increasingly large screens make no sense. These are still feature packed phones but they are valued for their simplicity and low operating costs.

      The Motorola Quantico is very tough. Still working after 10+ years of abuse. Been in water many times. It has been thrown, dropped, accidentally run over with a vehicle, used as a wheel chock, and much more.
      Unfortunately the major weakness of the old Motorola is the rubber side buttons which have all cracked and fallen off in the last year so it isn't watertight now. If I can locate another Quantico or Barrage chassis for it with good side buttons I'll be rebuilding the Quantico to hopefully get at least another 5 years out of it.
      I have a Kyocera DuraXA that I activated for less than a month. Was a pretty good phone but was much larger than the Motorola Quantico. Battery life wasn't as good as the Motorola which I have the extra capacity battery in. Also texting on it was worse than the Motorola since the Kyocera didn't have all the basic symbols available. My old Kyocera from 2006 had all the symbols. Not sure why the DuraXA did not? Or they just weren't easy to find since I have yet to find them... LOL
      I am hoping someday to find a suitable replacement for the Motorola Quantico.
      As for the frequencies, I have no clue what any of my phones operate on.

      I'm looking for the Samsung Rugby flip that can be used with AT&T or what is the most compatible

      No, The Rugby was a flip phone made by Samsung. This one is much more rugged. Usually available at AT&T in the US or Telus in Canada.

    How do you enter email addresses?

      You dont. It's a voice device.

      @@Bryanthecellphoneguy Then why is there a space in the contacts for not only phone nbr but email addresses?

    • @Bryanthecellphoneguy
      @Bryanthecellphoneguy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mtande54 That is a bit confusing. It allows you to have a record of someones email address but you cant send an email from the XP3. If you are transferring a contract list from another phone it give you a place to record the email address as part of the data transfer.
