“Offense, counter offense and recounter offense, defense is the other guys problem”
    - Tuhon Apolo Ladra (Pekiti Tirsia Kali)
Self defense is trash, self preservation and your defense is written into your offense strategy.

I am a student of the late Obosan Owen Watson. Here is what The Obosan taught me about “attacking his intention”. When he ( your threat) is verbally assaulting you with physical threats of violence to your body, to include threats of death, but your threat is at a distance that he cannot physically touch you, he is doing the “Monkey Dance” waiting to see your reaction. If he does not close that distance to where he can physically touch you then he’s talking shit and has no intention, thus you can choose to walk away, but not take your eyes off him. If on the other hand, after he has threatened you with physical violence, threatened your life and then he moves into your circle, your radius to where you positively identify that he can now physically touch you, you then have every right to believe his intent to harm you. He said he was going to harm you, he’s moved in close enough to actually physically harm you, you should believe him at this point. It is at this point you should strike first, attack his intent. This is paramount to survival, if you don’t know him you don’t know his skill level, if you don’t know his skill level in violence you don’t know what level of violence is about to be unleashed on you, what level of danger you are in. Assume the worse and strike, strike hard, strike fast. Speed, surprise, violence of action will save your life. This is attacking his intent. When someone threatens you with physical violence and they are close enough to touch you, believe them and act. Act or be destroyed.

I got snuck one time in my life by my friends enemy. He was looking for my friend and got close to me and snuck me while I was scrolling thru my phone to look for my friends number. I never let anyone get on my sides or rear since then and I do not take my eyes off of people who seem upset or intense even if I didn't do anything to cause them to be that way. You never know

True. No waiting or presets allowed in Self Defense. Pre-emptive attacks are clearly written and documented in the Self Defense systems I've studied. Doing full out, multiple attackers, drills will prove waiting is not a good option. Totally agree.

Someone threatened repeatedly that he was going to kick my ass after school. I now know his intentions.According to a principle of life as stated in Romans 12:18 how do I respond? The situation was defused with a question that made the person think and not a punch was thrown.Tired of hearing the taunts and threats I calmly asked the person what am I supposed to be doing while he's kicking my ass.For me,the day of the schoolyard scuffle was over and any aggression would be met with me going into survival mode.I understand this teacher.

Love it how he says your hands need to be in motion as you’re talking. I notice the other guys hands are always in motion and he’s always walking around and trying to flank you before the sucker punch comes. Nine out of 10 times the other guy is just standing there waiting for something to blow over and not happened then he gets caught out there. This is brilliant strategy and it’s definitely something that needs to be tied in personal defense

Personally I NEVER let my opponent hit first. Every fight I ever had once I felt the guy wouldn’t back down I hit him first hard and continuously. Usually it created confusion and fear in my opponents because they were never expecting it.

I think a good practice would be a normal conversation if you don’t do it already, it’s just start talking with your hands. That way your movement will seem natural when you have to do it under stress. Like any technique if you’re not a custom to moving in a time of peace it’ll become clumsy and contrite and at the time of war. You don’t wantTo tip this guy off that you were ready to attack.

I do not believe I would roll over and die; we speak of survival, of laws, and of God. If I were to watch a woman texting on her cell phone accidentally back her minivan into a very deep retention pond, with children inside; shall I say, _"This is about survival. It is likely they would drown me. This is natural selection."_ ? Would I be wise enough to consider that the van may sink slowly, and there may be enough time to break a window, perhaps allowing an avenue of escape? Would I be bold enough to jump into those deep waters, and take the risk to save one life? Would it inspire the others to escape a situation of panic and hopelessness?
I was nearly drown, trying to get a woman back to shore, who stood on a sandbar, far past the depth of the tide, across water too deep for her to walk, and she could not swim. I did not expect for someone so unable to swim be so far out. I did not expect the panic, when I tried to guide her back to shore. Ultimately, the best I could do, was to be driven down beneath the surface, bounce up off the bottom, take a breath, and keep throwing her toward a place where she or I could find footing. She clung to me like a stone. We did make it back. She looked me over with gratitude; I was somewhat confused. There are only two ways to die. As a dupe or a martyr.
Luckily, that day, I had the strength and providence to survive.
