      The police really wanted to find something on us I think.
      The chief was ok though and he spent most of the time with us showing us a big map on his wall and the areas he claimed Armenia have stolen.

    That made me think about the Chinese police. To go on a subway in Beijing, you have to pass security check, drink from all water bottles you have and be prepared to show your ID as they will randomly select stations to check ID. To enter Tibet or Xinjiang on road from inland China, there are at least seven checkpoints where you have to show your ID and be prepared for full security check of vehicle. To fill up your fuel tank in Xinjiang you have to show your ID and your face will be scanned to make sure it is your ID and driver’s license. When I came to the UK to study, I was really surprised about the lack of security checks. Travelling to the west of China is really difficult, fortunately those check points are mainly focused on local vehicles, most of the time.

    • @tomw5400
      @tomw5400 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Plus there are at least ten junctions in the centre of Beijing with at least one armoured vehicle per junction with police around and police patrolling the area.

    Lived in Baku, Azerbaijan, for a year, working at Sangachel.
    Really enjoyed my time there but the country is absolutely old-school corrupt.
    Almost every cop expects to be bribed. almost all the girls you see in bars are "for hire" and almost every BMW or Merc' on the streets is stolen from another country.
    Once you figure out how things work, though, it really isn't a bad place to live

    Great video and story - yes all familiar to me as I have been to this part of the world. Beware, KZ is no better. I had the Police Chief take my passport in one town and it cost me US$250 to get it back. Then another episode on a train, detained by 2 machine gun toting teenage police who tried to extort money from me. Its all par for the course in eastern europe. Bon voyage et bon chance yes amis.

    We just had to make a similar video about when some guys started throwing stones at us at night in Guatemala. Didn't film enough to make a normal episode, but really wanted to share the experience with the views.
    Thanks for sharing guys. I've been interrogated by police a couple of times while traveling, but never by the regional police chief and not for something as serious as being a spy. That must have been nerve racking.

    If authorities found something suspicious they would definitely introgate, you guys did the right thing to cooperate. all well ends well! Big cheer for you guys!

      Not politics, Racism and Armenophobia, Azerbaijanis are allowed to travel to Armenia without problems, but Armenians are not allowed to visit Azerbaijan and as you see, foreigners, who have Armenian flags also are treated badly. Azerbaijanis are Turks, they're mad at Armenians existence and wish to entirely wipe off Armenians from this world, because our existence goes against their falsified history.
