    AWESOME! This was the Holy Grail RC car when I was a kid. I heard about it but never saw one in person. Still impressive today! Well done on that build! Thanks for the video!

      I didn't realise how many kids wanted one of these. I certainly did from the first time I seen it in a magazine.

    but with so many changes, can you still call it a 'vintage' bruiser?

    Awesome video, great rc. This rc is still on my rc bucket list. I saw one at a local park when I was in grade school and couldn't stop drooling, still can't! :) These videos are awesome, thx for sharing guys!

    I was 22 in 1985. I bought this truck at my local hobby shop and spent many weekends up in Pentwater Michigan on the beach of lake Michigan driving this bruiser. I wish I never sold it.

    Such a nice truck and a cozy Tamiya talk.

  • @Ed-ty1kr
    @Ed-ty1kr 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yep. That truck was un-obtanium for me too. I forget what store I saw it at, but there was a literal small crowd of other kid's hovering around it. I remember riding my bike ti the neighboring town to go see the Bruiser. And you know what, thanks to China and their copy right infringement policies. Now that Tamiya is done with their recent retro run. You can still get one of these as a knockoff. BUT, it is built in the same factory identical to the original, meaning same exact tooling. Aaand, you can get one shipped through Banggood for like 180$. Oh yeah. Im thinking I absolutely need this in my collection. Well, no blue paint, just plain old white.

    I bought my Bruiser back in early 1986 when I was stationed in Japan, I paid the original yen price, 39000 yen which back then the exchange rate was 240 yen/$ so about $160. I still have until today.

      @@kummakummakummakummakummac8606 I did buy it in 1986 at retail box yen price. I'm not sure I want to sell mine now.

    I always enjoy seeing Sang's projects. I remember this kit when I was a kid and it was crazy expensive here in the UK too. The only kits more expensive were Tamiya's tanks, still are I think.

    I still have mine that I bought in Okinawa Japan while stationed there serving in the USMC back in 1986. I haven't run it in many years. Not sure but at one time I had 2 bodies. It took me 2-8 hour days to put it together since I didn't read kanji. Im not sure if the box is in the box it is in.

    This is one of the few model that really represent Tamiya's very nimbus, even considering the then too weak dampers (the ones from the Frog might have sufficed), the much too soft steering mechanism (the angle part should have been made of spring steel!) and missing diffs, not all these soulless plastic buggys, re-using some inferior chassis, coming with questionable standard friction dampers, motors and plastic bearings, which make these no good deal when replacing.
    I hope they follow this line and make variations with other iconic offroader, matching their character, like the Landrover, Puch G, Humvee or even remaking their legendary, but unknown Cheetah (pre-LM001 prototype), and maybe a "pre-damaged" Top Gear edition of the Hilux ;-)

    One of the best things about bruiser was the transmission. HIntake You removed it why?

  • @westernsharpie
    @westernsharpie 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    6:17 turns real nice?? what are you talking about? Ive got a mountain rider, i've got the highest torque servo money can buy and it still has trouble turning the tires when the truck is stationary on the slightest bit of rough terrain. According to an RC guru, its due to the lengthy amount of steering linkage/excess slop. Don't get me wrong i love my mountain rider and i wouldn't trade it for any other rc, but your review should cover real issues like how it actually performs on all aspects. That 540 brushed motor can get tossed out immediately, just a useless motor meant for ages 10 and down. Excellent scale looking truck, still relatively fun to drive, but if your looking for crawling abilities, this truck is not the one. cheers

    • @GCMRacing1
      @GCMRacing1  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's exactly right! It has some major crawler problems, but considering that we're talking about vintage tamiya, it's doing pretty well for it's day. There weren't very many options for 'offroad' trucks back then, and this one did surprisingly well for slow crawling back then. The review isn't to compare it to current standards or trucks, it's a talk about this ole thing and what it is as it stands. I wouldn't consider this a crawl truck at all these days. It's barely a trail truck! haha

    I love your Channel and videos, but what always frustrates me is people putting the Bruiser/Mountaineer in the crawler class. They're not crawlers; in fact they have nothing to do with crawling or trail finding. Where do you guys come up with this non-sense?
