Use to sell Portiere Rods when I worked in a hardware shop almost 60 years ago when they were quite common. I thought they had gone out of fashion, glad to see they haven't, they may be quite expensive but they will save you pounds in energy costs.

Just bought mine from Amazon for £34.75 + £5.25 pp. (Bronze) The item looks the same as this one. But! weather the quality will be the same I'm yet to find out. I tend to think not. This one looks like it has some craftsmanship behind it. Like you say though, It's bloody expensive for a "fancy bit of metal" :-) Thought I'd take a punt on the cheaper one first.
Ah, therein lies the rub, eh? Either a cheap piece of short-lived, ugly, frustrating junk from the discount store; a home-made water-pipe eyesore, or a nose-bleed expensive piece of quality hardware.
Wish you would say fix instead of locate, when appropriate. Would make it easier to understand for laypeople. Thanks for posting though... a great help
